Elvis was a great singer, performer even I would say a really good dramatic actor. But as far as MARTIAL ARTS I believe he got his belts because of who he was, not for what he knew as far as a MARTIAL ARTIST. He wasn't any fighter or gladiator as he is portrayed to be. I was always and always will be a fan of him as far as a singer, actor and a performer.

Celebrities getting praised, and told that they are legitimate black belts. When the truth is, that they may have passion. But they dont have any skill. Just fame, and a big cheque book.

Listen folks. Theres a couple of things that need to be cleared up here. I read Priscilla Presley's autobiography several years ago, and the following is what i learned from it. Elvis was self-conscious about his neck, which he described as scrawny. This explains why he's wearing a large collard shirt under his Gi in the video. He's trying to hide his neck. Priscilla also recalled in her autobiography that Elvis was self conscious about his feet, which he felt were huge. This explains why Elvis can be seen wearing white ankle length boots. However, Priscilla gave no explanation in her book as why Elvis loved getting sky high on drugs before entering the Dojo.

It took my son from 7 to 14 before he got his black belt. It took so long and years of determination our style was go jah rue . I took it as well and got my purple belt & while testing for it a member of our school kicked alittle to hard and my hands were getting tired so I kept them on my chest, which was so silly cause all he had to do was a kick to my chest and my arm cracked, I think I had 2 or 3 rounds left. My instructor heard the crack , I think the whole room heard it, my instructor took me into the other room so he could find out what I wanted to do, either go on and after the test I would go to The emergency room. Or come back next weekend and start all over, I said he’ll no , it was broke , we knew that so I felt I’ll continue that way, then go to the hospital, I was in so much pain and mad as heck so I started crying. JESS CAME IN TO CHECK AND THE DUDE WHO BROKE MY RIBS CAME OVER AND KEPT SAYING SORRY NAY. IIT WAS MY BAD NOT HIS. When I’m angry or hurt or frustrated in a weird situation., I get choked up and cry. I pull it together pretty quick, but go through my thing anyway . I TOOK JESSE TO KARATE FOR SEVERAL DAYS AT A TIME SO IN CASE HE NEEDED TO USE IT, iIT WOULD COME TO HIM MORE NATURALLY . HE USED TO SAY TO ME , MA IF YOU THINK THIS IS SO EASY, YOU DO IT. HE WAS RIGHT, I PUSHED HIM HARD FOR MANY GOOD REASONS, HE KNEW WHY. ANYWAY I STARTED LATER THAT WEEK. I WAS IN REALLY GREAT SHAPE BACK THEN. I THINK I WAS IN MY LATE 30s. ANYWAY MY BOSS USED TO TELL ME THAT I NEED TO STOP CAUSE SHE HATED MAKING HER OWN BED. I worked fo that family for 30 years.

Theres a story about Elvis (awaded a high grade in American Kenpo by Ed Parker -true), taking it upon himself to award Bill Wallace and Joe Lewis higher Dan grades. Since Bill was Elvis' employee for awhile, running on a decent salary one of his schools, he was in a poor situation. Im sure Elvis meant well, but frankly both Bill and Joe were really accomplished karate and full contact fighters too, and vastly more accomplished than Elvis.
Ill leave others to critique Elvis' abilities here, but Ed Parker seemed to me to relish surrounding himself with celebs, grading them to black belt asap, and also associating himself with top martial artists and fighters such as Joe Lewis (to add street credibility, as he never fought in point nor full contact bouts, he had no fight record).
I do believe Elvis (intentionally) kicked Bill (and Joe?) in the nuts, as part of the grading, then awarded them beautiful silk black belts. At least one of them was so disgusted after this 'charade' that they dumped either the grade certificate and/or the black belt in a trash bin.

A group of dudes tried to run up on Elvis while he was performing and he jump-kicked one of them off the stage. Then his bodyguards rallied the rest out and probably beat their stomachs to hell.

First karate Lessons Elvis learned in Germany Bad Nauheim. 2 times the week, german Sensei Jurgen Seydel trained him to the brown belt in Elvis living room , sometimes in a cold garage :
