It's interesting to note that rear load blade packers don't suffer from this problem as they simply eject the load with the compaction piston no problems at all. I've always wondered if there were design flaws in side load packers, and this video has been most revealing.
This is the reason why we tend to use bigger bodies to accommodate recycling collections in Australia. You can fit a large amount of bins in, without having to compact it so much that you don't have the issues in the above video. Still...fun to watch ;-)
driver at my work has same problem with his curbtender. he just fills the hopper up with trash before he dumps so when its tipped up in air to dump the packer has trash to push and it never gets stuck anymore
Wow! I just stumbled upon these garbage and recycle videos... never knew there was such an interest, but after watching some I'm kind of hooked! I'm surprised they don't have a pole or something to help unclog. Anyway, I may wake up early to watch my truck some morning lol :)

Full eject bodies aren't too common here in Arizona due to the majority of dump sites being transfer stations versus landfills. Full eject is safer compared to tip to dump bodies absolutely. Thank you for commenting!
Pretty crappy having to waste time dealing with this. Not good on the truck to have to gun it back and forth. DaDee did the right thing by making the inside of the Scorpion body rounded! Nice job!

Easy solution would have been to just dump a load of recycles into the hopper until it's full, cycle the compactor a few times, and then the compaction would unstick it fairly quickly. Don't they give the truck driver a pole to unstick the garbage with? In Australia drivers have a shovel or a long pole with a hooked tip, that's just to get rubbish that's stuck in bins out. Almost all garbage trucks in Australia have rounded bodies so trash will slide out a lot easier.
that lid must want to stay on that truck. it looks like he does not want to be recyced lol. how where you able to get in there and film? we might go to a transfer station to film. great video.

curious what your drivers do if a can falls into the hopper? here the driver compacts it and keeps going maybe because it is too dangerous to climb up on the arm into the top of the hopper?
