How long does the bamboo need to dry before you split it?

      Splits best when it’s green

Splitting, bending, curving is all best when green. However, cured bamboo can last for years even in outdoor use. I tightly bundle my poles and prop them up against a big tree for some months. My husband does a quick cure by ramming rebar through to bust the culms then using a blow torch to sizzle out the moisture -- makes the poles pretty too.

How do I cut it into smaller pieces? I tried wood saw and it didn't work very well

I had the same problem, good garden loppers do the job well

@@iangomez7190 I ended up using a metal saw, works so much better. And I also ended up getting myself a jigsaw and metal cutting blade, which saved me a lot of time on my project. I tried using garden shears but it was just too hard.

The bamboo we were using was dry. It can help to soak it for a few days in water before you split it if you want to make sure it won't break!
