  • What a week, I guess you can really tell how behind you guys are on video and real time, so this was the big freeze followed by a few calvings where I left it real time as someone asked on the last video for this, not sure it will be to everyone’s taste I like more of a fast paced video but I suppose I’m not watching it. Don’t forget to go over to ‪@WilsonandAshley‬ the new podcast with a mobile studio 👌👌 picking the trailer up next week so that’s super exciting!!!! Mucking out the calf pens with pallets how easy is it? Ell let me show you!!

    OMG. Keyboard warriors reporting your channel- WTF! They are just jealous of you and the hard work you and Roy do. Annoys me that one person can ruin it for you, and the rest of us who appreciate all you do!

    Can’t wait for the new podcasts. Looking forward to a laugh. Calving is real life but some people must think they just appear when you’re not looking. I can’t afford to lose you Charlotte I would miss your sense of humour along with learning about farming. That’s the first time I’ve seen Roy up to his elbows pulling a calf 😂😂

    "Self-regulating heating cable" They work best if you install them inside the pipe, but they can also taped on the outer surface of waterpipe. Adding insulation around the pipes helps too, here in Finland we prefer using both in cold sheds.

    In the early 90s, I had frost protection installed on a water pipe and a drink dispenser. It is a temperature-dependent heating cable that starts heating at temperatures below 0 degrees C. It is connected all year round and only uses electricity when the temperature is below zero and gets warmer the lower the temperature gets.

    Glad you folks are gonna keep all the calves. Here in Canada day old 100 pound beef calves are selling for $12.20 a pound. That's over $1200. I'm still able to buy holstein and angus/ holstein for $450 to $600 from our usual supplier but he has raised his prices to others.

    I would think that using the pallets is a good idea as it must keep the straw bedding drier and would be more comfortable for the calves animal comfort first fair play to ye 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️

    Loved the video Charlotte, jeez that was a big calf no wonder it took some effort! Have you thought about boxing in the pipes on the roof with wool insulation for next winter? Timber is not too expensive and you will have your own wool to use, might have to treat it with rodent spray to keep the mice's and ratties out but as it's on the roof it could work.🤔.

    Great video, calves looking great, wise not to power wash when really cold as could mess up calves with pneumonia, Roy is ace in the Bobcat ... Adrian from I farm We farm dismantles his pallets and rebuilds with smaller gaps. You could sell or giveaway your used pallets to somebody with a big solid fuel burner ...

    Excellent video, Charlotte and Roy. It's lovely to see you both working together(i know he doesn't like being on film) that calf!! What a whopper!! Poor mum, i bet she's glad you were both there to help and have them out at last. Can i ask if you record who has twins? incase they have them again?. Non farmer question. I hope you didn't get any damage with the wind today? We had a few trees down and some lost their electricity. We were okay. We are off grid.
    Thank you again for the video they really make my day!. Take care, and i hope tomorrow is a good one for you! 💜

    Good evening Charlotte & Roy. Cracking video again. I worked on a dairy, and the farmer had his electrician fit the wires round the water pipes well itcwas more like a hot blanket that was rolled around them, and we never had a frozen pipe

    • @ked7221
      @ked7221 12 днів тому

      Heat tape: easy to wrap around H2O pipes and just plug in. With your run of pipes, a narrow electrical blanket could be made and insulated with straw on top.

    Hi HUGE moo cow, Jebus that was a big un. Why not put a roll or 2 of insulation over those water pipes, maybe box them in. 😊 Or, and this may be crazy, I saw something on Amazon once that I considered for something else, it was by iHelios and was an infrared underfloor/ceiling heating film. Have a look, it may be stupid but i don't know what else to suggest. ❤

    You can have trace heating to stop the pipes freezing, but you would need to do it yourselves as it would be expensive to pay a electrician, probably better to insulate vulnerable pipes.

    I had to rewatch this video because I didn’t quite get what you meant by being reported for doseing a cow with a bottle? So myself and my son ( eldest) just watched it again over lunch and I think I was right UA-cam slapped you on the wrist for doseing a cow with a bottle, upshot is we have a stomach pump and we generally use a bottle for the the low volume stuff as it is easier on man and beast! Oh and I have to tell you that we have the heater wire wrapped around some of our more exposed pipes and it works great can’t remember where we got it but we have it years and as long as we remember to plug it in on cold nights we have no issues, it was not expensive but I can’t remember how much it was , probably should upgrade to one with a thermostat that switches it on automatically but haven’t gotten around to that yet ! If you think that the train journey was fun you should have been on the plane back to Dublin! Even the pilot joined in on the craic ! The rest of the passengers were basically gobsmacked with the messing and slagging one even asked me if lamma was something to do with sheep? I explained that it might do but you would have to sell a lot of lorry loads of sheep to buy anything that we saw at lamma even a €220 a head! Great show, met lots of people we knew from all over these islands and generally had a great time, spent a bloody fortune ( and that was just on food, drink and accommodation) but had a great time and did a couple of deals so a very successful trip all around. Regards from Ireland.

    Interesting the You Tube scenario as years ago when working for commercial television at 9.30 am we were regularly transmitting birth of children in hospital so girls and boys knew where they came from and how they arrived. No ifs no buts as graphic as watching your own children arrive!

      @ Totally. It is not the world I grew up in post war. Not all of that world was correct but we respected others and knew the value of the word NO! Now we have neither the right of reply nor the right to criticise publicly because a fair comment is no longer free speech nor are pictures of the natural order of life. If your telephone was taken from you under current law how many pictures or comments might be actionable? It is a moot point that most people in Britain would not comply with the law on at least one item on their telephone. I find that very sad and it is not the Law I initially was part of or the Country’s values I served to maintain abroad.
