  • This is part of a series of 4 brief videos to help newcomers to runes memorize their meanings. This video series should help you get on your feet so you can start reading the runes after watching this series, with no book in hand. Future videos will include some reading methods, once you have the meanings down.
    The blog including the link to all 4 videos is located at: www.donnaleigh....
    These meanings are not complete, and I do not include the rich history that comes with runes. The viewer is encouraged to continue their studies on the runes to continue to learn more. This series is intended to inspire so you feel capable of giving them a go.

    Thanks for this video series, very practical and down to earth approach. For ’Thorn’ rune I think it should not be considered primarily ’negative’ as it represents focus, single pointed concentration of forces to achieve results and goals.

      Thanks for sharing. I'm new to runes casting and did a Cross of Thor spread, with the thorn (Thurisaz) as the 5th final "Final outcome" meaning. The negative interpretation threw me, because I took it to mean that my career endeavor was protected.

      That's awesome, and it's the best way to do it. When we create our own oracle, the energy connection is amazing. Did you make them out of wood?

    Thanks for the great viideo series. I was looking at the meaning of Eiwaz and it;s a bit different than what you mention here. Does this resonate to you as being accurate? "In Norse mythology, the ash tree (sometimes said to be translated from the old word for yew- needle ash), Yggradisil, is representative of The Tree Of Life. As such, it relates to the cycle of life, similar to the Death Tarot card (signifying the dying of an old way of being or period of life). It can also represent divine protection, wisdom, enlightenment, and a sense of purpose, symbolising the connection between all the worlds.
    KEYWORDS: Connection, inspiration, endurance, sacred knowledge, protection, life cycle’s, divinity

    I wouldn't necessarily think of that rune as being negative, it can be used to fight back and break negative cycles, inviting change

    The direction of the runes are important right? Because in a book called "The goodly Spellbook", the directon of the rune at 3;09 is different in the book.

    • @DivineWhispers
      @DivineWhispers  8 років тому

      That is a great question. Some rune readers change the meanings if the rune is reversed or upside down (i.e., lands face down). I find it very significant to read with directionality, whether I'm reading with runes or cards. For me it is significant, but as long as the rune reader is always consistent with what they do, the language should come through for them in the ways they determine right for them. In other words, there is no "one size fits all," and historically, there is no written account of how they were originally utilized, so there is significant variation between well-respected authors, even for individual upright rune meanings for many of the runes.

    • @donnaleighdelarose5899

      Runes were originally carvings, so they were made in shapes that had straight lines so they could be chipped into the base. These straight lines are still in every rune we use today. So if you carve them, you'll be going far back to tradition. Up or down wasn't recorded, but the process of carving was. Enjoy the process.

    • @DivineWhispers
      @DivineWhispers  5 років тому +1

      Yes, just be sure it hasn't been used before. For example, the single Bluetooth logo with the B is a rune symbol, and that is likely a copyrighted trademark.

      Sadie Sansoucie I don't recall ever saying not to make therm. Just that it is not necessary to make them. I always encourage creativity, and making your own set may help the user bond with them.

    the rune at 1:33 means thorn, its is evil and used at black magic

    • @donnaleighdelarose5899
      @donnaleighdelarose5899 8 років тому +9

      I often think of this as in at war hatchet the used in a battle, & I do think of it as a thorn as well, like you do.
      I do not think of any of the runes as inherently evil. There are times when we have to fight battles that are for the highest good. So sometimes battles are necessary, even if it is a verbal spat we use to defend a position.
