One thing I love about this channel is getting to see more of what's going on in the game besides just what happens up front. Normally when the ball is snapped, the receivers and DBs run off the screen and it's like you miss half the game! That first Lamar run… you’re reading it as if he didn’t see anyone. That was intentional imo… I believe this game was one to say, “I didn’t run much this season, but don’t get it twisted. I still got it”
His not much was 821 yards over 150 yards more than the next closest (granted Fields missed time so YPG was very similar)

@@slim0815you got it slightly wrong. He gained weight and muscle the last two offseasons bc he thought he might take more of a beating with offensive line down with some injuries but this season they’ve been great and has gotten tired quicker bc of it.
The play with the post and the out, where Lamar takes off for a huge gain. I think the run is the third read. Look how the route combinations open everything up, even the route bottom of the screen becomes an out at just the right time. Lamar looking left would draw defenders into the run. This very much looks like a planned 3d read run.
Lamar Jackson is playing an insanely high level of football that is higher than anyone else currently. And he can still clearly get better.
Just think about that. He basically got 10-20% better from the pocket this season and Baltimore looks untouchable

Disagree with trying for a backside throw on that first run. This is a guy who, in open space, has a chance for a TD run. He saw everyone went with a man and the middle was wide open, made a great quick decision, and took off. Great play from Lamar. It also keeps the defense honest.
If you look at the comments, it's alot of ppl that disagree with this guy, that's side line Hating on lamar.

@@chosenone8964 yeah, the perspective that O'Sullivan brings is that the QB should prioritize throwing the ball before running. Which is correct.
If a QB trusts his arm and his WR, then throwing the ball to an open man is better than running the QB 99.9% of the time. That is a FACT; it doesn't matter if your QB can run a 4.2 sec 40. I guarantee Lamar can throw the ball 40 yards a LOT faster than he can run that far and throwing the ball from a clean pocket puts his body at less risk. Remember that Kyler Murray tore his ACL when making a cut with no contact whatsoever. Throwing it is better than running your $55 million QB.
Over critical on him getting to the backside, especially on the first play. You have to realize that he’s seeing the play unravel just like we are. He knows where OBJ is, but he also knows where the defenders are. If they do clog the middle then he escapes on the outside. If he’s protected, he’ll work back to that 3rd read. A true Dual Threat you’re watching, not Matt Stafford who has to get to that third read to be successful. Lamar knows his legs are important no matter how many ppl try to diminish them. He uses them when he has to and is very efficient. Same with the goal line run. Why throw it when I can make them blockers and potentially score? That’s how a dual threat thinks… you even entertaining him hitting Ricardo in the flat just shows that you’re used to analyzing immobile pocket passers who has to play on systemic timing. Lamar trusts his playmaking ability above all else rn and it’s great to watch

This guy is looking at it from a standpoint of a immobile pocket passer instead of the most dynamic dual threat the game has ever seen..
I don’t think he’s been over critical. I’ll get it back to the best side. I’ll take him taking him scrambling all day. To be honest I think that’s how the ravens win the rest of the playoffs. I’ve felt like he still need some work on anticipation and getting through progressions like Patrick, Burrow, and Matt. I think that what separates him from those in the passing area of his game. When or if he ever does fine tune that it will make him Unstoppable
Few observations. Linderbaum destroys his opponents. We did see some of that rust in the read progession and it was nice adjustments to make it easier for everyone. It's really scary to think he left some plays out there and they still won by 24. We do know when he does hit those plays the celling is very high. He just turned 27 thia month will have 2 mvps and has gotten his team to the biggest game that has ever been played in Baltimore. Win or lose the thought that we are just starting to see his prime and he has room to improve is wild man. Sunday really could mark the start of a new Era in the nfl, but it could also be get better for next year.
The one where he took off on 3rd and 5 to get to the 2, yes he had people open but I think he saw he essentially had 2 blockers in front, one being a TE, and only 2 defenders in front of him. You can tell by the way he dove for it that he was thinking touchdown when he took off.

@@blzraven27 do you think likely was going to get the touchdown on that play? Lamar had a better shot at it. Likely was going to have to beat 2 defenders to get the touchdown. Lamar just had to get some good blocks and run the right way. It was in my opinion strictly a better decision to run there.

Crazy to look at his stats and say he’s not been running all season but he hast really been running this season. They definitely switched it up in the postseason and gave him a few designed runs that look like pass plays
That was probably just for Houston though because they kept leaving the middle of the field open and the spy on the outside to keep him from escaping the pocket and looking downfield like he usually does.
After running with him at the lowest clip in his career, Monken pulls out a fake handoff on 4th and on the red zone 😂
I was at this game. Watching him in person is just different. He just glides. He doesn't look like he's trying. On his throws, it looks like he's just flicking the ball from all kinds of different arm angles like a kid messing around with his friends playing street ball. When he runs, he looks like he's gliding and just looking for holes. I knew it was over for the other 3 remaining teams when I saw him lower his shoulder and plow through contact to try to score at the goal line. Dude is possessed right now.
Side note. This year, throwing between 10 and 20 yards, he completed over 70% of his passes for 11.2 yards per pass (1,197 yards on 106 throws) for 12 touchdowns and 0 picks. 145 passer rating. But he can't throw, right? 💀
And the intermediate throws aren’t a new thing for him, he’s been hitting those intermediate throws (especially in the middle of the field) his entire career. With better route concepts and receiver talent, that skill was maximized this year

It seems like Monken is having multiple plays designed for Lamar to read one side and flip his hips if they get the right post-snap look. Not sure Ive seen that before, but it happened vs the Dolphins with Zay Flowers and his 80 yard pass to Gus Edwards.

I can't wait to see this offense next year if we could draft another top tier wr, having likely and andrews and zay and possibly obj again. Having 2 really good TEs Andrew doesn't have to overwork that helps him stay healthy, justice hill has looked good and he might learn some new stuff from dalvin It's just that defense that's kinda worrying but i think Smith and Hamilton are going to be able to lead a good defense, get some fresh linebackers, Trenton has looked like a good replacement for PQ, but all of our edge rushers are leaving

Never worry too much about the defense. Drafting key defensive players is our bread and butter. EDC will have that defense in good shape and the offense will be even better next year, and we still have room to grow with core. We got time too, our championship window is now open for the foreseeable future!

The play on the Lamar QB keeper boot, when I played LT I would get a smoke or base call from my QB or C. Smoke meens hinge and boot for the QB keep or toss sweep (we called quick pitch) and base meant step hinge, protect inside out like normal. Ronnie looked very good there
I like how you acknowledge the good things he does in making plays, while also giving good criticism on ways he can be better in the pass game. I think you can acknowledge he’s become a better passer while also acknowledging that he can still be better

Love the channel man..i hear you talk about Lamar’s base a lot..do you think he moves it a lot because of his athleticism or he just needs to continue to work on it?
Just from watching him, he’s constantly keeping his feet ready to move if needed. I don’t think he likes being flat footed. You can see that when he can, he reestablishes his base, but he’s also pretty good at throwing off platform, or even in the air with a jump throw.

At the 7:00 mark, I humbly disagree with your read. The backside target had a man trailing him another defensive player already making the adjustment in front. Tossing it puts your player at risk cutting across field, you also put the ball in harms way by tossin (pause) instead of tuck and run for the same gain. LJ made the best decision of the options given
At 46:48 regarding the fake stone wall banner, I've got 2 theories. 1 is that it's meant to be like a castle wall, which is associated with ravens perched on top. The other funnier one is that Baltimore's old residential neighborhoods are known for their use of form-stone cladding - a fake stone layer on top of the underlying brick, which is meant to imitate a stone structure. It's a very Baltimore thing. If that's where this is coming from that's very appropriate and hilarious.

Jackson could hit the back side in but why should he, he gets more yardage running into the opening in the center of the field created by the deep route and split. It almost looks designed for a 2 second look and if not wide open, take off.

Seems like he made it a point to run whenever he was open to shift the defense. Also, it's ball security. Maintain possession. Get the first down and get down without ever having any risk to the ball. Slide. Similar to Steph Curry establishing gravity with a three even though there's an open layup. Make the defense commit to being out of position.

Yeah, because he is a rookie. Did it also noticeably in an earlier game with a TD throw to mark Andrews and he ran right into him and got trucked hard lol. And you see it in tape from time to time that he clearly doesn't know the route....but like I said, he is a rookie and learning the full playbook is one of the hardest things for rookies to lock down.
Which is why its F'ing crazy that Lamar is doing what he is doing while his WR1 is a rookie. Not just in production but in actual playing time and even crazier having the passing scheme game plan being centered around a rookie. That is just not the norm, partly due to what was said earlier, usually don't want to put that much on a rookie.
This is what separates guys like Lamar & Mahomes (who is also playing with a rookie as his WR1 this season), They can be competitive with less around them and elevate the talent around them. People are going to be in for a rude awakening in the coming years...because QBs that they already crowned are going to look totally different when the pieces around them downgrade due to their contracts kicking in. We just saw Allen not be able to get it done for years with a top 5 WR, it only gets worse for him. Joe burrow is not only guaranteed to lose Tee Higgins, but Chase might be gone too since Burrow took way more money than he should have (...and Bengal fans thought he was the humble guy that would take a discount...LOL). People don't even realize that you have never seen Burrow touch a field without some of the best WRs (PLURAL) on the planet...at the same time, including college. And as for Herbert...well lol, if you thought paying him early without ever seeing him accomplish anything was a good idea...ouch, you are in for a long disappointing career (Phillip rivers 2.0)

Compare his footwork to some of what you see from Tua (there are many others but I feel Tua has grown and learned it - sort of like Penix under DeBeor), Lamar just doesn't have great footwork at times. Also, I really wouldn't argue w/ the "QB School" on the idea of QB Footwork - unless: 1-Played NFL QB or 2-Coached QBs. Thanks for pointing out these details, JT.

He isn’t like any other qb in the league because his running ability is literally just as good as his passing ability. He also has the knowledge because he’s played this way his whole life. These “analysts” want him to change to fit what they think makes a good qb, but Lamar is breaking the mold.

Ok you got me concerned a little because if I am a DC of the Chiefs I just picked up that he only reads one side of the field the majority of the time (Right Side) and doesnt get to his left hand side on time and i never noticed that until just now 🙃

Lamar is hoppy in the pocket because he has to be. There’s no use in him standing flat footed with a strong base with his running ability as strong as it is. His other worldly arm talent allows him to get away with this. Lamar stays on his toes by hopping around and it gives him godly reaction time to make rushing defenders miss. (Kind of like baseball players pre pitch.) maximizing reaction time
He’s got as much arm talent as any quarterback in the world. Which allows him to get away from this and be a polished passer from any release point.

6:30 is the answer to play against Lamar. A spy. - To play against Lamar you have to be aware all the time for the run. If Lamar was a punter special teams would have to think that he would run 50% of the time on a fake.
So “forcing him to throw” you don’t think the NFL pro coaches are already doing that? You don’t have an original thought here.
He gets spied all the time. It just doesn’t work because he’s more athletic than the spy. And that’s a guy who isn’t covering.

@ 6 mins This play is a 20 yard gain and shows the biggest difference between Lamar Jackson and EVERY other QB playing past or present.
Your criticism of him on this play is understandable yet missing the point. The "backside in" route drags the man with him and allows Lamar to get that 20 yards. If he threw it and completed it may have been 20 yards or maybe 30 yards.
What is so special about Lamar is 1. He is looking for that run like a desperate junkie and can see it earlier. 2. He attacked it and ran goal to goal like a greyhound out of the gate. No other QB runs so direct and attacks the gaps.
Mahomes is a great scrambler, more like a dancer than a greyhound. He is full of fakes and dodges and an extremely skilled arm that is always a threat. Josh Allen is more like a wrecking ball. Brave and fearless and indestructible, he is coming through, like it or not.
Lamar and his coaches clearly know... There is dramatically less risk of turnover and higher first down chance if he runs with the ball.
His running is the best in the league (QB's) and still under rated.

Isn't it kind of hard for YOU to decipher where exactly LJ's legs should be set when he's looking to pass (or maybe run or move a little)? You couldn't possibly know/understand what it's like to have that ability in your legs AND arm...cuz you never achieved anything anywhere NEAR what he's done in just a few years...nor do you...or anyone else who's ever played NFL Quarterback, in terms of the kind of threats he poses to a defense.

I mean this with all due respect - Lamar is a great leader, seems like a great person, and he's definitely a great athlete and football player, but Lamar is NOT a great QB. Great QBs win from the pocket, great QBs throw with anticipation, great QBs win by reading the defense pre and post snap and making the right decision consistently. Run when the pass is not there or the play has broken down, but otherwise work through your progressions and make the right pass in rhythm, let your playmakers do the work for you.
You can't argue with the effectiveness of using his legs and he has unique elusiveness rivaling almost anyone to ever play football, but this breakdown is a good example of why experts do not consider Lamar on the same tier as elite QBs in the NFL.

Great QBs... Win. The game has evolved, and Lamar is confirmation that there are multiple ways to play. If you can't see that, then maybe check out Kurt Warner's writing about him. If that's not enough for you, then I pity you. Sounds like you would have been against that whole forward pass too. Won't be too long before the game leaves you behind.
