Thanks For Watching!
Great camera...but seriously, Elgato Coffee Machine when???
You said that and we both had the same reaction...
Right after the razer toaster
i'm happy with my C922... if i want better image, i will use my camera.
Plug your coffee maker into a wifi smart plug and set your StreamDeck to brew up some deliciousness!
I dunno if there are any "smart" coffee machines out there right now, but if there are you can bet your bottom dollar someone is making a Stream Deck app to do what you described until Elgato makes that coffee machine lol
Great and helpful, very thorough review thanks Sam !
Thank you for a VERY detailed review - exactly what I was looking for
Love how I just clicked off the "How to set up your Elgato FaceCam" and the first linked video was this one.
I knew you made this video, I was going to look for it, but UA-cam obviously knows us well cause it brought me here next.
thank you! finally a video that goes over the settings PLUS key light and fill light settings too.
@sam you are the best! Awesome review I’ve been waiting for a cam that peaked my interest for so long! Annnnd I learned new things about lighting and production! Thanks!
I’m sold on this webcam! Thank you Sam! Will be back to tweak the camera settings in this video, thumbs up and subscribed 🔥
Best review ever. Not only did I learn about the camera, I learnt something new about lighting and ISO.
So much content today. Thanks again Sam!
Great job. Mine has just arrived today, can't wait to mess about with it.
My C920 died. Keeping it simple and just wanting to go with a new webcam. This video made my mine up for me. Thanks and Cheers!
I just purchased this cam bc of u and Harris! Can't wait!!!
Hey Sam! New to the channel lol. Excited to be here though, your videos have helped me a lot with your tips on being both a streamer and content creator (I’m new to it :P)
Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
So between this video and the one from Harris, I've decided to buy one, hopefully see a big improvement from the old Logitech C920, also doesn't hurt that I bought it brand new with a £27 discount!! Can't wait 😎
i like the the camera alot atm, and learning more about what some of the settings are was great! fantastic review! but do you have a good alternative for nvidia broadcast for amd users? i use chromacam but its crap in comparison
Thank you my man!
Brilliant! I will definitely be upgrading my Logi C922 to the Elgato FaceCam!
I'm really looking forward to that Wave XLR video, It really just looks amazing.
So glad I ordered this. been holding out. I KNEW they were going to eventually come out with something along these lines. It's a definite upgrade from my (shudders) Logitech C615. A BIG upgrade. I may even order a second one.
Great video! Can you use the Nvidia Broadcast software with Mac? Or is there an alternative app/software? Need that blur! Lol
Very cool effect!
I'm currently using just a $25 webcam and am very interested in this as my upgrade. Very great review! Would've loved to see it next to an a5100 or the zv10
Can you do some more redesigning twitch/ UA-cam channel videos? Or also some premier pro / after effect UA-cam editing tutorials would be awesome! Love the videos!
Great video, Sam.. Love an in depth look at these things to see their potential rather than what they do out of the box. Cheers!
Of course Elgato would release this right after I bought a new webcam 😅
You hate to see it.
Which webcam did you buy btw?
@@ultrajeed7594 The Dell Ultrasharp 4K webcam! Been using it for a birds eye view of my desk and it's been working nicely so far.
@@charlieissocoollike Nice, I’ll take a look! Thanks!
@@charlieissocoollike On the paper, Dell Ultrasharp is way better than this.
But there are still no proper reviews right now...
Quick question: does Dell software let you control the gain? This was my biggest concern with Logitech G HUB and forced me to use 3rd party software to set it at each restart.
Honestly especially made a coffee machine that can be plugged into your stream deck and you can control however you want your coffee made or anything and that is a resembling coffee could be pretty cool actually like this idea Sam
Thanks, Sam! You're the bomb.
The perfect review didn't exist until now
I brought this product two weeks ago, I like it. Before I sued the C920. I just can't get the perfect lighting going as it's hard. Doesn't help with the sunlight going into the room then the room becomes dark and the settings needs to differ again. Soo for know I have some settings setup to auto to adjust based on the sun to dark room. I not long moved into a new home and not everything is setup
Love the review Sam! I’ve recently purchased the Logitech Streamcam, and have managed to achieve a nice DSLR quality look by using some budget ringlights in my studio - however I will definitely bear this one in mind if I need a 2nd cam for other fields of view or for when my current one is retired! :3
The funny thing is the dark scene at the 10:18 mark still looks better than the c920
Is there a blur background software for pc? Is there a blur background setting on software that the Elgato webcam comes with?
Dude, the coffee stream deck idea is gold! Elgato need to get on that and send you some royalties LOL
love this one.. great info... strength to the point.. and how to look at how much better this cam is XD if u don't wanna go for and real video cam. nice to see this go on!.. be positive, and stay creative cya sam
btw love that u said +1 XD harrys and his stream did stay +2 XD
I was going to buy an Avermedia PW513, but I think this takes the cake.
Elgato needs to make a video switcher. It just needs the IO for 2-3 cameras or maybe more so you can pump in the video from a PC or 2. It could be hdmi, NDI, RTMP, maybe SDI, or even USB. Add a couple XLR combo inputs, a headphone jack, maybe some sliders and dials for volume control. The rest or even all the control can then come from a stream deck. Add an encoder to replace the need for a 2nd streaming PC and we can stream from the device and take the load off the gaming PC.
Yep we have the BMD ATEM series but they have tons of buttons nobody really uses. It seems BMD and Elgato don't want to work together and properly integrate their systems. Instead most people uses a stream deck through some pretty clock cycle heavy software called companion to control most to nearly all necessary functions of the ATEM.
If we can't properly control an ATEM with a stream deck, it's time Elgato comes out with a competing product that has the features streamers really want and use.
You asked if there's something Elgato doesn't make. There you go.
I have had 2 of this camera now and the first one just had 100 white pixels and the second one have about 4. When will they fix this problem??
Which Key light do you have?
I currently run 2 x c920 web cams, quality I get it good, however I hate having to setup the cam every time I open windows / obs
I just got it, and after having 10 plus webcams over the years, this is the best one I’ve ever used
Just received mine today but it won't save the settings to the camera; go figure. It seems the BRAND NEW cord that comes with the Facecams suck. I just ordered a NEW cord for my NEW Elagato facecam. Yes, firmware is updated.
I guess there is no way to plug this into an ATEM switcher as it has no HDMI output? Or would a USB-C to HDMI adaptor work?
Hello there, do you have any advice for me on why my camera goes blurry when I’m moving when streaming? I have great internet and stream at 936p 6000bitrate. Can’t fix this no matter what I try.
There's a option in OBS, you can set the rgb color space from "standard" to rec709 which gives you accurate picture colors.
Also the sharpness option on elgato hub is way to agressive. I personally use it in OBS.
btw the facecam is rly nice webcam. thx 4 thereview
you should check Anker c200 webcam
This was by far the best review if this webcam. The lighting pro tips of the end were 10/10
I may have to pick this up and the Elgato Wave XLR. You made the Facecam look so good! The only thing I wished you would do is show the before and after side-by-side at the end there. I can scroll around the video though.
Yeah I realised that after. It was a tight deadline to get this video out
Don't go for the Wave XLR.
GoXLR MINI offers way more for the same price!
i tried the blur but the INVIDIA Broadcast app says my GPU is not compatible
How do i fix the noise and the white glare 😢
I just bought this camera and the auto exposure swings wildly whenever the sun or clouds effect the light in my room. It's really bad. Is there any fix?
Great video. Will the camera and software work with an M1 Mac Mini?
I’ll find out about this and get back to you!
@@SamWoodhall Thank you. I appreciate it.
I found using Elgato's NVIdia SDK Effects gives a better bg blur for me.
The focus plane for these fixed focus cameras is calculated around the hyperfocal, with the aperture and focal length you can calculate it. And they sure nailed it, I love the image quality but sure had to find a way to justify the purchase because I'm cheap. 🤣
With regards to the Logitech resetting when you close OBS, if you do the settings in Logitech G Hub instead, then it saves it. I tend to tweak things in OBS still as it's not as precise but it at least gets you much closer to something you'd be happy with. You might already be aware of that but just wanted to put it out there.
922 here and it constantly resets in Ghub as well. $200 is worth it just to avoid Corsair software headaches. You have to think about it this way: You are paying an extra 30% for Elgatos software development when you buy their products. Definitely worth it!
@@Coneter I have a c922 as well and it stores my settings in G Hub.
@@RyanGoldfishTV My bad, I meant that OBS overrides Ghub. Even though my Ghub settings save, opening OBS overrides it. If you know a fix, I've looked everywhere for one.
@@Coneter In G-Hub there's a little padlock button at the top, next to where it says "Webcam" make sure that padlock is in the locked position. That will ensure it doesn't change the settings to a different profile when you open a different application.
How did you flip the view upside down? I have mine installed in a similar way and can't see an easy solution to flip the default view in the software.
Very helpful video btw!
since it was also upside down in nvidia broadcast I presume he flips it in OBS
I upgraded my GPU and now my FaceCam freezes when I stream or use it on Discord. :\ Any reason why?
darn....I just bought a Blue Compass mic arm like a month ago when I bought my Wave 3. Those arms look freaking sick! The FaceCam certainly looks nice and I like the software. I'm assuming it's not going to look any better than my old iPhone I'm currently using though so probably not a purchase I'll make.
I was a little salty when they announced the wave mic arms for that reason as well. I have a blue compass and it's... it's ok. But it's a little frustrating to get it where I want it.
@@Taiyri yeah, a lot of these products are subject to placement issues because not everyone has the perfect desk setup. The Blue Compass works great for my needs but I really like the look of that low profile wave arm.
would like to see a video with this versus other cameras, webcam or DSLR within the same/ similar price range. 200 dollars seem steep to me for a webcam.
try Ashnichrist's video - she compares it with the C920, and a DSLR. Personally I think the Elgato FaceCam is worth the money since a DSLR is going to require more tech to make it work (a camlink and mounting gear) and is already going to be well over $200 at initial purchase where the FaceCam is $200, plug and play.
How does everyone like this? Is it worth the pick up or worth just investing that $200 into something like a a5100 or a6100?
I got this camera and it had about 4-5 dead pixels on it :/ had to return the next day
Watching Sam waving at me for 23 seconds solid is my new favorite past-time
It's GIF worthy for sure.
There are smart coffee makers that connect to IFTTT, and IFTTT buttons can be placed on a stream deck. You can already do the coffee button. I've been doing it for months and I'm definitely not the first. And yes. it is great.
Now I must build something like this...
Onbabam
Elgato breakfast suit, coffee maker, toaster and liped flat top grill
I bought it and yes it is AMAZING.
A question I have regarding this webcam is just how far the fixed focus works. Like yeah I know it's 30 - 120 cm, but what does that LOOK like? Does it actually stay just as focused at 120cm as it does at 30cm, like they claim? A large user base for webcams are people who are up and about a little more - think cooking videos, camgirls, podcasters who need multiple people in frame etc. Every review I have found so far focus on the twitch streaming/gamer use. And yeah, it's called the Facecam lol, but I was wondering about the further range of focus. Your review is so indepth and informative, I was wondering if you have any insight to give? Thanks Sam
That’s kind of hard to explain over a comment. The best way I can explain it is that you have a green band of in focus range. Similar to the graphic I made in the video.
From my experience, it’s like a drop off point after 120cm. It’s definitely sharper the closer it is, but the further away you get it gets a touch softer and then drops off.
I think the clue is in the name. It’s designed to be used on faces rather than room cameras or wider focus points. Maybe top down cameras too.
Let me know if that helps or if I can provide any more information!
@@SamWoodhall Thanks for your reply! So using the Facecam at, say, 110cm isn't going to be as in-focus and crisp as it would at 40cm? Or it feels just as crisp wherever it is as long as it's within the 'green line' of 30-120cm?
I know it's in the name but I'm so into all the other features and software this webcam comes with that I was really hoping for more use-cases than just twitch streaming. Thanks again, I'm really glad I found your channel. I want to make my own UA-cam channel and you're a veritable font of knowledge.
EDIT: To simplify, I guess my question is: Does the Facecam *begin* losing focus at 120cm, or does it begin losing focus somewhere in-between 30-120cm, so that after 120cm it's just completely blurry?
Let me do some investigating for you and get back to you on that. The best person for me to ask would be someone at Elgato so I’ll get onto that for you and let you know as soon as possible.
From what I've been told, and what I thought was the case, the focus range is optimally in the middle, normally where you'd be sitting for streams and the like. Move too close and move too far away and it will start to lose focus, however it needs to be said, with webcams you're not gonna notice a ton of loss of focus if you go beyond the 120cm range.
You'll get the most CLARITY within the range it recommends, but you're not gonna be a blurry blob on the screen if you go beyond that.
This video from Elgato (timestamped) might give more of an explanation on what you're trying to ask ua-cam.com/video/L1R1D_z5jRY/v-deo.html
Really hope this was helpful to you. If you have any issues then please feel free to jump into the Discord too, it's linked in the description if you're not in there already.
@@SamWoodhall Thank you! That section of video really answered my question. I watched so many video reviews for this webcam and it was right there in an official Elgato video 😅 Thank you so much for your attention and the time you spent answering my question, I never would have expected such a thorough and genuine response. I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future 💜
Hey good vídeo
definitely gonna be ordering this cam eventually, just at the point when comparing the cams out of the box, the Face cam has the best balance ( i feel like) of both the c920 and Stream cam.
really looks like a DSLR. lul
Best camera considering quality and price it's a fact! Mine arriving tomorrow, I've been using mirrorless cameras with elgato like Canon 7D with 30mm sigma lens but tired of the issues overheating the camera and it's huge comparing to webcams too much hassle with mirrorless cams, so yeah looking into it !!!
Wow what a difference that final setup is. Anyone want my Streamcam? lol
Same price as the Logitech Brio and it seems wayyy better! Goodbye Brio 👋🏾
Well, no one did a comparison between the two yet, so you can't just state the BRIO is worse.
BRIO has 90 degree FOV rather than 83, 4k output, autofocus and face recognition for Windows Hello.
It does have ton of image noise in low light tho.
I am waiting for someone to compare the two, but for some reason, both Sam and Harris compared the Facecam to the Streamcam (which is useless, considering the fact the BRIO price is very close and it's way better).
Hands down the elgato looks the best
right, some1 hasn't seen the brio
hahaha! I bet you could program some sort of coffee machine to work with the streamdeck. that was funny.
I, like many others have a logitech C920 right now and I'm looking to upgrade it. The Elgato facecam might be it. I just have 1 minor issue. You see. the logitech C920 is built to sit perfectly on top of your monitor, while the clunky, rather bulky Elgato facecam doesn't have any stand what so ever, so you need to buy something to have it sit on, which means more money, why is it so inconvenient?
No the Facecam comes with a stand for a monitor and you can unscrew it for mounting into a tripod/multi mount.
elgato is the best
First comment? Never happened to me before!
Awesome camera. but it is one dimensional?
I am honestly disappointed. For the size the image quality is at best "passable". 200 bucks should get you more these days. For the size it still looks like it's using a tiny sensor. There's no DoF even though the camera in these examples seems to be mounted at the "prefered" distance (any closer and it would feel too tight, any wider and there is too much room around the subject).
Now this is ofcourse in part because it's a 24mm lens, that's usually too wide to get good bokeh unless you really get close to your subject but I also feel like this sensor is not big enough at all. Aside from that it seems like almost all common camera setups for the purpose use lenses are less wide to get that background separation. 40-50mm (yes this will limit your placement) would give much better results.
I wouldn't class this "pure e-waste" as it (just barely) beats the competition but I'd say it's such a small advancement that it's hard to call this a good release.
I disagree. With the scope of the competition out there, this holds it's own and does a good job. $200 to you is not the same for someone else and this might do everything they need. There's no reason to shoot it down because you don't find a use for it. It's a good camera, with something that all other webcam manufacturers have failed to provide, and that's software that makes it useable.
@@SamWoodhall I get your reasoning. Here's the thing though: what does this provide over using your phone as a webcam? Something you can do with NDI for free or if you spend like 25 bucks you can do that over a wire.
Slightly lower latency? You can compensate for that by adding a bit of latency to the stream. To quote blizzard: "everyone has a phone right?". And odds are your phone camera will deliver similar quality (or better) than what this camera seems to provide.
The controls look very good, I have to agree with that. But I'm not sure that justifies the hefty 200 USD price tag (my original comment was meant to suggest it's too expensive. I think that might have gotten lost in translation). For 200 bucks and 8(?) years newer than the Logitech I expected a leap in quality and I don't feel like this delivers on that promise.
When 2 UA-camrs release the same review
Not the same review. It is a different video.
@@SamWoodhall no many people have just posted a review so idk what to watch 😂
Their next product is a laptop.
Brio 4k still the best webcam for less
Saw the price. Instantly put off
The price is what the price is. It's got great hardware and software. If you can't appreciate that then it's not for you. I'd think about that then posting some generic comment.
@@SamWoodhall or maybe I'd rather buy a cheaper webcam and invest in better quality lighting, something which both you and Harris have recommended in the past.
Not everyone has £150+ to spend on a webcam that has no value once you decide to upgrade to a DSLR.
They can only justify that price due to how simple they make their products but it isn't for everyone. And I'm allowed to comment that the price is an instant no for me. 👍
They are also quite late into the game when a high percentage of streamers already have face cams making this a "luxury" purchase
Still looks pretty rough man
could you make me a logo?
please reply :D
yea the c920 defiantly is the best camera ever am I right or am I right, ok I cant
Donation goal Elgato Facecam 200€
The StreamCam looks better to me
All overpriced though sadly =/
Nah this isn’t overpriced.
Apparently, the pot can call the kettle chunky. Sorry ... couldn't resist. Twelve months ago I was chunky, then I realized I had no social life anyway, so I went on a 5-2 diet (two 36-hour fasts per week) and lost 3 lbs/month for a year. With all the food I didn't eat, I can probably now afford this nice webcam :-)
Sam plays destiny?! Bro add me on steam we bout to do master VoG
Brilliant! I will definitely be upgrading my Logi C922 to the Elgato FaceCam!
Just done the same 👍
