old caravans are best sorce of alluminum, i got one for £25, used it as a shed in my garden for over 10 years then broke it for scrap...as it was thick 1960s alluminum i got over £220 scrap for the plating...well worth looking for another cheap vintage caravan
Thank's for the video, altho disapointing they are helpfu0. received my wire stripper the other day no instructions couldn't get it to work right, is there a srecret? I have three boxe's of misc. boards could you do somthing on sorting them, ie. low grade mid and high grade what determines this? Thank's David O . l
i just cut the cord take the back off cut whatever wire i can take the transformer and elements and chuck it! great videos as always helping oldtimers like me keeping my game up
great vids mike the heating elements could be sold to maybe appliance repairmen or stores if they work or maybe just put in ad in paper to sell to diyers.might getmore thatway ifthey work.Maybe a video on checking them out .I know new ones are sorta costly .thanks just some thoughts What you think?
In the past, I have used "fantastic" cleaner to clean up vehicle motor oil on the floor of a garage. You might not get perfect results, but it will be pretty good.
Its that way in all towns and cities. it is such a petty crime in my area that its ignored. We are helping the environment. I have seen the garbage man put metal and electronics in the hopper and hit the blade to pull into the body of the truck.
hey mike. your vids are very helpful. so I do have a question does the city you live in ever give you crap about picking up curbside scrap. in some cities it could be stealing once it hits the curb. if so how did you get around that. thanks
That is nonsense. If it's within 6 feet of the road(servicable land not controlled by property owner), its legaly considered abandoned. Anyone can legaly take it even if its not garbage day. Unless the owner tells you not to take it or there is a sign on it saying not to take it, it's not against the law.
You dont need to take it apart but i would spend two minutes to unscrew the back and get the copper wire and the switches, the switches have silver contacts!!!
Ok I can see it NOT being worth taking apart if you just had the one stove. BUT if you are stacking/stockpiling say copper, brass, & alum to cash in on large amounts of such metals for maybe raise in prices or what not, then I say it IS would be worth taking apart. Thoughts any one?
Scrapping a stove should take 30 seconds .... Step 1 cut off the cord .... Step 2 unplug the top heating elements .... Nice detailed breakdown tho ... I laughed when i saw all the brass bits on the scale ......
Ive actually torn apart a dryer before. Not much different than the stove. Not exactly worth the effort. Though in the future I'd probably at least open it up and take out the wire
I always take everything apart. It's always fun to do with a buddy or whatever. Sure if you take it apart and then take it all straight to the scrap yard. I mean how much does a dryer weigh? 60 pounds? Well an electric one at least. You'll get a good pound or so of wire. Probably an 8 pound motor. The aluminum is give or take. I always take the "precious metals" out throw em all in a bin and take the iron/steel to the scrap yard. It adds up when you've got business.
What are you smoking? 2 ounces of copper at $2.60 a pound = $0.03. No. It's $0.32. 4 ounces of brass at $1.65 = $0.04. No. It's $0.41. Aluminum at $0.53 = $0.01??? Seriously. Did you fail kindergarden math?
BTW. those power cords on stoves normally have half to 1 pound of copper in them. Very easy to strip. You didn't even mention that. Or stripping any of the wire in the stove. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
The built-in or under counter stoves are worse for taking apart, I cut myself up pretty bad on the galvanised stainless steel that makes up the back part. I wasn't wearing gloves but even the slightest touch cut my arm too. The edges are extremely sharp and i'm not entirely sure how they get away with it from a health and safety point of view.
Thanks for the breakdown Mike
Now this is what I'm talking about! Someone who does it and let's you know if it's worth the trouble or not. Great job Mike! 👍🏾
If you have a shop like mine and work and build things, then the wiring and connections and some components are priceless.
As always...Great video Mike. We always want to see inside, even when we know it's not worth it sometimes. ;)
Guess you don't know till you do it. Great vid man, that was alot of work to do this one. Thanks.
181 lbs. ? Was there a dead body inside?
Thank you my friend
another great vid as always good for new scrapers like myself

Nice... prices are going up... i hope they get higher
awesome video Mike
Awesome video Mike .. cant wait to scrap my first stove and cant wait for the next video .
Extremely busy... Trying out some new software for my vids
Good session well done mate
What about the silver buttons on all of the contacts it's definitely worth breaking them down

Do you save or collect screws bolts and fittings, I do but then I am a horder
great vid mike...thanks for sharing.........
I have a question, Not pertaining to this video but i have alot of cast iron and steel, Do i seperate it? Will i get more money to seperate it?
i just cut the cord take the back off cut whatever wire i can take the transformer and elements and chuck it! great videos as always helping oldtimers like me keeping my game up
Thank you for the comment..

Yes they are the same
nice another video..thanks
arent the heating elements made of tungsten? which is worth quite a lot....
What is the heating elements made of? My scrap yard doesn't have a listing for them.
In the past, I have used "fantastic" cleaner to clean up vehicle motor oil on the floor of a garage. You might not get perfect results, but it will be pretty good.
hey mike what you get if you striped the copper wire
Yep...But I had to show was it worth taking apart
Went to the yard today. Paying .10 a lb for sheet iron. Up from .825 a week a go.
There a few good sized silver contacts in the switches.
How to properly dispose of tv or monitor tubes after pulling the copper out? Hazardus materials?
try presure washing it also helps with me and my multiple oil stains
It was a pain to cut each one off...But I had to show my viewers everything...
power washer?
Nice video Mike you been busy?
How long did it take you to take apart? Break it down how much an hour. Not worth it..
Hey mike what do I do diff. with a gas stove? if anything?
Thats why I made this video... to show you what is in a stove and you can judge if you want to spend the time or just go for the easy stuff...
thanks mike
Its that way in all towns and cities. it is such a petty crime in my area that its ignored. We are helping the environment. I have seen the garbage man put metal and electronics in the hopper and hit the blade to pull into the body of the truck.
Thank you...Not sure what I will be scrapping...LOL
Yes ..Please seperate... cast iron go for more money than steel...
What about the hearing elements in the oven part, are they the same as the ones from the top?
Hearing element?
You mean heating?
Mike, your final prices for copper, brass, and AL are all one decimal place off. Copper is actually $0.33, brass is $0.41, and AL is $0.13.
That is true
If you can find a scrap yard that will but them yes please seperate...
hey mike. your vids are very helpful. so I do have a question does the city you live in ever give you crap about picking up curbside scrap. in some cities it could be stealing once it hits the curb. if so how did you get around that. thanks

What brand of scale you use and where do I purchase it?
Mike, there should be silver in the switches.
This one did take a lot of work... its better that one person does it and shows you, rather than 1,000 people making the same mistake...
Its brass and the copper was removed...They will buy this as long as it is seperated and in the right bins...
can you scrap the elements? nickel is $5 a pound here
there should be brass and copper inside the stove...
You dont need to take it apart but i would spend two minutes to unscrew the back and get the copper wire and the switches, the switches have silver contacts!!!
The only way to safely discharge an a/c safely is a trained person...Meaning get your License... As far as the stain...Try Oxi/clean
I don't know, I'd rip out the heating elements and sell them separate.
what does the heating elements fall under?
Charles Schmidt Heating element. Not many yards buy them...
for the video I make it more drastic
No cord... was already removed...
nice...
good video
Thank you for the compliment.
2 0z of copper is worth more than .03 cents, same with the brass, not a significant amount to justify breaking down though
Yeah I can do something like that
Ask your scrap yard. Some pay different prices and other just mix them together
80% nickel 20 chrominum also called Nichrome... There are others but this is the most common
Might just be worth pulling the back panel and cutting the wire. Then scrap the rest. That's just my 2 cents
Cool!
LOL... There is in almost every video....
All I think I would do is just take the top four heating elements off and cut the coy
you forgot the silver on the contacts

I swear there is 1 troll who is lurking around disliking ur videos... Lol
You could strip the wiring.... But after spending an hour on that you will gain an extra $3
Scrapping a stove should take 30 seconds .... Step 1 cut off the cord .... Step 2 unplug the top heating elements .... Nice detailed breakdown tho ... I laughed when i saw all the brass bits on the scale ......
at least 2 -3 dollars a lb

as a courtesy to my scrap yard... I make them pay me for the glass then i shatter it with another piece of scrap....
Normally this would take 1 hour...Not worth taking apart...
Take to a recycling center....
I'd just take off the elements.
I just take the back off and get as much wire as Ii could. Sell the rest as it is.
it has chrominum...check with your scrap yard
LOL... tempered glass...

Cord
No...its not worth your time breaking down this stove..
not worth my time
Yeah, not for everyone. Thank you for your comment.
not worth wasting your time for 4 bucks
No. But interesting to know what's in there .
