  • You can tell how much effort went into it by the fact it's got 1 still image to look at. Totally what you're here for. Enjoy y'all. Trying a new program. With MH where it is today I figured it might be nice to document some of these hidden gems of the series. Even if there's others who've done the same, to a degree.

Going back and playing FU, I really love how there are these eerie, out of the blue ambient tracks in some areas, it really adds to this sense of, mystery? Wonder? I'm not too sure how to describe it best. But I'll never forget the feeling of the music playing while stumbling across the destroyed camp that is in area 8 I believe? Just standing there looking over the destroyed structure and the decaying carcasses littering the place, wondering who built it and what happened to them, and why no one seemed to acknowledge its presence as if it was never meant to be there... gave me a few chills honestly

Older generations had really good backdrops for their Hunting Grounds.
      Examples of this would be:
      - Old Jungle in Gen 1, which has a Niagara-falls kinda backdrop and a massive forest with islands in it.
      - The World Serpent-sized Skeleton in one of the maps of 4th gen that would dwarf even a Raviente/Zorah.
      - The ruined infrastructure of the Old Tower and Heavenly Mount feeling like a sky island almost.
Combine this with the "mystical" sounding ambient tracks accompanying them and your imagination can run wild in so many ways.
Oh, and shoutout to Everwoods and their overgrown temple structures ofc.

they do not make them like this anymore. even though the world you’re playing in isn’t real, the way the game presented it to you made you ask yourself with curiosity where you were in. but the thing is that throughout the game there were never any answers to your question. you were just there, in this world. in the new games they have pop up texts everywhere and narrators explaining all the lore and story. it just ruins the vibe and atmosphere

@@DivineArtema mate honestly i fully agree with you. like the older mhs actually made you ask yourself where you were, and the best thing is that the game never gave you answers. just like in real life, we can ask questions about the mystery of existence, but we can only speculate. as our questions will never have an answer. likewise, in the older mh games you could maybe read the description of items, or in your room you could read the books. but it was all very limited info, that felt as if it was written by somebody within the world, asking themselves the same questions you are but can only speculate to their best capability. it never felt like it was the game developers themselves explaining to you what was going on. no one holding your hand trough the game. no bugs lighting up a path for you to follow or a narrator telling you in some weird voice how the place you’re in is some ancient ruin… the older mh games had an elegant and subtle way in which it presented its world to the player. beautiful ambient soundscapes combined with the games low quality graphics leave space for the imagination, creating this charmingly eerie atmosphere. which strikes a bittersweet sensation of solitude, wonder and mystery. if you navigate this sensation enough, it can quickly turn into an almost introspective experience you have within the game world. this is something the new games CANNOT achieve.
the new games may work and look good in their way. but it really has lost its identity.
