"Why if every light is dark do I continue dancing.... I boogie for the raindrops, the purity, the anger, for my childhood recolections, for the comic book in my heart, the mocked intentions".... love it
i swear dude is one of the few rappers who keeps getting better the older he gets lol Like some of my other favorite rappers I'll really like their first few albums but then they kinda fall off but with Aesop I like just about every album.
Beautiful. The way Aesop puts his words and verses together. I always thought this was the second tugboat complex and that it should have been on the Appleseed EP. I love this one and the 3rd one.
wow yeah that happens to me too, sometimes his lines get stuck in my head before i even process them, like i'll be listening, and some things just pass by, and then a few weeks later i'll have a line in my head, and find it in one of his songs and not remember ever hearing it before
for some reason 'why if every light is dark do i continue dancing' has been in my head for like two months; i just realized today that it was because of an aes song i'd head three years ago. thanks for the upload.
"I slide like kodachrome" This line is an artifact of simpler times. Not complex or wordy, but extremely visceral if you are familiar with the reference to kodachrome film.
I tried not to like Eminem. He is a lyrical genius. Aesop Rock, El-P, Eminem… it don’t get better. Don’t hate on Em’s success. Aesop Rock is my favorite, EVER.
Now a days, people pay more attention to the song's beats and either pay little attention or ignore completely the lyrics of a song. whenever i listen to one of aesop's songs, his lyrics are not drowned in the background of the beats, they are front and center. But maybe people today just want something that is simple to understand, they don't want to think about what they said. Until people respect a rapper for his or her words, will Aesop be famous and well known
hell yeah: if all the lights have darkened; why do I continue to dance? Thanks Aesop! Free off the wall now; thanks to you! Keep doing it! You're real: fuck yeah! You're doing real things! I appreciate you; as a theme to me: keep talking to 'em; through those walls.
dig it, i split my lip kissin the winter, nursed the blister in the sun, strung a hammock between spring and where the willows turn to blood. fuckin sick
I have to disagree... Em doesn't make you think or feel like Aes does. There's so much introspection and philosophy in the words and worlds he creates, while Em just rhymes a bunch of swear words together. If you want to use that tree analogy, Em is a branch and Aes is the roots.
49 haters who dont kno real rap when they here it... You say Justin Bieber-I say Tupac You say Lil Wayne-I say Biggie Smalls You say Drake-I say Ice Cube You say Soulja Boy-I say Big Pun You say Gucci Mane-I say Rakim You say New school-i say shut the fuck up You say Pop-I scream Hip Hop! You say Hannah Montana-i fucking punch you in the face 92% of teenagers have turned to New school and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy & paste this message.
I remember when Eminem came out, I was excited b/c his first EP had some good battle rhymes etc. And then the album dropped...what a piece of crap disappointment that was for a long time hip-hop fan (over 20 years now) like myself. Eminem is a product, while Aes is an artist, they just both happen to be white, that's where the comparison ends. And limited is the last thing Aesop Rock is, he has fun songs but they aren't in your ears man, maybe it's like that : "you can't hear Jimmy" thing.
What a walking contradiction... you're one of the few comparing them both. Every eyedea, Cage, Necro etc video i always stumble across the eminem comparisons,, forever discrediting em. They are vastly different artists with completely contrasting styles and musicality, so why write that unnecessary negative comment. i mean if ur on an aesop rock vid, u most likely have good taste in music.. so why not spur a worthy debate on two artists, instead of the same boring Mainstream vs purest underground music arguments.
CandieSKZ i'm pretty sure there was a bunch of different versions of this joint that got released on a tugboat complex EP. so he has part 1, part 2 etc, with remixes.

Favorite Aesop track I think. I've been bumping this shit for 15 years and it still blows me away.
Lol
One of the greatest songs ever written.
Yessss
bumping it since release, got 'i boogie for the raindrops' inked. he has a staggering amount of amazing tracks but yeah... this is my forever jam.
Can anyone fill in this blank? I'm not sure if I hear it right. "I lead a fleet of blazing ______ songs directly-
It's astounding how Aesop has produced such amazing content such as this and chose not to release it on an album of his own.
Aes still wearing the crown in 2020. Long live the king!
Yessss
i swear dude is one of the few rappers who keeps getting better the older he gets lol Like some of my other favorite rappers I'll really like their first few albums but then they kinda fall off but with Aesop I like just about every album.
Rong
Wait until you listen to this new album...
One of the greatest rap songs of all time does even have a million views. We can't be in the prime universe.
Beautiful. The way Aesop puts his words and verses together. I always thought this was the second tugboat complex and that it should have been on the Appleseed EP. I love this one and the 3rd one.
one of earths greatest poets

im here to rock the tugboat and bid the elders fairwell
god damn//// i hope that my writing approaches his level of genius/// in the mean time just gotta stay true
Aes rock is too dope
"If I had a hammer, I'd build a city on stilts
so my feet would stay dry when God's wine glass tilts"
If I Had A Hammer is also an old protest song. Really old pop culture reference

My favorite Tugboat Complex song by far. Aes is just too nice.
since I didn't see an answer, this track was originally released on the Fool Blown Compilation, Inside Out Vol.1
Gotta track down a fisical copy. Thanks.
Thanks for the info!
Still my favorite aesop song 2022
'I split my lip kissing the winter, nursed a blister in the sun, strung hammock between spring and where the willows turn to blood'
Some rappers nowadays are the closest this age is going to get to prophets with integrity.
@1:26
My favorite lines of all time.
for some reason 'why if every light is dark do i continue dancing' has been in my head for like two months; i just realized today that it was because of an aes song i'd head three years ago. thanks for the upload.
ilylac dude same here
Yeah i stopped listening to a lot of stuff after hearing AR. Just lyrically perfected genius right here.
Thank you Aesop
"I slide like kodachrome"

I am not familiar. I can look it up but I'm interested in you explaining in your own words
I used to be a huge eminem fan, now I hardly listen to him compared to this God
IDKHOOPWNS used to be an Eminem Stan when I was a young teen, then I grew up and started listening to Aesop, K-Rino, Canibus and Rakim
Yeah
I tried not to like Eminem. He is a lyrical genius. Aesop Rock, El-P, Eminem… it don’t get better. Don’t hate on Em’s success. Aesop Rock is my favorite, EVER.
Sad How Fans Now A Days Never Even Heard This Song
Been listening to atmosphere for years, just started listening to this man, and damn if he don't have a way with words.
Damn.....The Tugboat Complex is so dense.
Fav aesop song ever. His new shit is so hard too
He's been the greatest since he started: this man hasn't stumbled once his whole career.
a profound sermon of lyricism
My favorite Aesop song right here
Now a days, people pay more attention to the song's beats and either pay little attention or ignore completely the lyrics of a song. whenever i listen to one of aesop's songs, his lyrics are not drowned in the background of the beats, they are front and center. what do you think it mean
@ibmethatswhoib I dont get it, how can you find the best from the artists like AR
yer, there's a b-side album floating around with it on there.
Fun thought! XD
That's ignorant, Aesop Rock and Eminem are different branches of the same tree.
I have to disagree... Em doesn't make you think or feel like Aes does. There's so much introspection and philosophy in the words and worlds he creates, while Em just rhymes a bunch of swear words together. If you want to use that tree analogy, Em is a branch and Aes is the roots.

SHIT I ACCIDENTALLY LIKED YOUR COMMENT.
how did you get this song? i mean tugboat complex pt. 2 was on the appleseed EP wich was not originally released and this was even before that
@unclespazface still.. whole point of my comment.. just because u don't feel like diving deep enough into his lyrics doesn't mean their inaccessible
This is waaay too much!
what album is this on?
@jubblyJUBBLYyes lol.

where is this from? albumwise i mean
I did a little searching around, and I think this was either from an EP or it was a standalone track.
CandieSKZ
i'm pretty sure there was a bunch of different versions of this joint that got released on a tugboat complex EP. so he has part 1, part 2 etc, with remixes.
And I'm asking you
lol whatever buddy go listen to All Da Way Turnt Up or something
My friends and I send tracks to each other always trying to beat the last one. It’s been almost a decade now and I’m growing tired so I said fuckit...
