Difficult to imagine that kids watching who were fans of CD:UK were remotely interested in or even cognisant of the music of GN'R/Velvet Revolver. Typical viewers would have been too young, and in any event not at all the target audience for those bands (were those emails from parents? Or crew members?). It's just really bizarre that Slash was invited to do this.
Thing was, so many more people watched TV back then that you'd get all sorts of kids/teens tuning in, not just those who liked pop music. And even in the mid-2000s I remember GnR was still fairly popular with me and my mates (we were about 14/15 at the time). UA-cam and torrenting made it easier than ever to discover the old classics.
