Hello friend, I grew up in Toronto in the 1960’s and 1970’s and remember many of these streetcar lines. I enjoyed riding many of these old streetcar lines, as a young man. Also rode bicycle throughout the city and remember the Rogers Rd line in it’s last few years. Thanks for these videos!!
Thank you. Have been writing down a family history of our Toronto family with my 100 year old mom and yours is very useful perspective . It is truly amazing the transportation history you can sculpt if you have the courage to inquire and can be disciplined to the task as you have. You have inspired me to try my hand at doing a site on my discipline, ceramics. Please keep at this! Grew up in this area(Rogers-Jane-Weston) and remember riding these cars,or seeing abandoned track in the 1950s in the cobbled streets of what had been earlier,my grandparents generation, the new growth areas of St Clair west. Those photos are stupendous. I have been trying to parse out these routes and dates for the past few months from TPL archives and this is a godsend! Was amazed to hear that there was an electric Weston line that went all the way to Woodbridge,I suppose thru Thistletown up Albion. There were many of these other lines that came and went that there is precious little information on .Please keep on with your research!
I never liked the Rogers street car. Driving over those (uneven) bricks was a nightmare. The current bus line, even if it is low-use, is a far superior service to the streetcars and trolley buses that used to run along Oakwood and Rogers. Thanks for the video and historical information - especially about the Weston street car that went all the way up to Woodbridge. 🙏
I think the Weston and Lambton lines are probably the most feasible to be reimplemented. The Weston streetcar could start at Dundas west heading north on keel/Weston connection Mt. Denis station and continuing north to or maybe just past Weston GO and The Lambton would just be an extension of the Dundas streetcar to Etobicoke. I think the north/south connections between Dundas west and Mt. Denis stations and up into the town of Weston could actually be pretty good as that are is set to undergo some development as it is.
id second this. the fact that i see a good amount of bus usage could warrant the need of streetcars or maybe light rail on weston. could run from the go station to gunns loop or hop over into high park
The Lambton streetcar would be a good idea for another reason. I have always thought that the 44 Kipling South Bus could be converted to a streetcar, thus those two routes would allow streetcars west of Humber Loop to have a second access to the rest of the system.
Just a note: On my maps regarding the WESTON Streetcar I erroneously refer to the northern terminus as Humber Loop. This is incorrect; the streetcar terminated on a single track siding at Humber Street north of Lawrence Avenue in the Town of Weston.
The Avon Loop was pronounced like the Avon cosmetics/products company with a hard 'A' sound. I used to live in Silverthorn before moving to Weston. I was surprised to see some of the photos in my collection, such at the bypass at King and Main St. North (Weston Road) in 1948 and some other negatives and slides I have collected over the years. Otherwise good video. By the way, while the Weston Streetcar was replaced in September 1948 it's interesting to note that there was a movement in Weston to have the streetcar line replaced as early as the 1930's. The streetcars were described as 'the well-known, much despised Red Rockets' in one of these old clippings in the Times and Guide newspaper. We used to use the streetcars on Rogers back in the Sixties when we used to live in Silverthorn, and the old trolleys on Weston Road now and then. The Gilbert Loop was also another familiar starting point for many a journey on Eglinton. It's a shame that Metrolinx or the TTC don't incorporate the considerable number of archival images that exist of Eglinton Avenue in the Crosstown Stations to provide some historical perspective. Memories of our time back in Silverthorn take me back to the old Zone fare system.
Metro 6: *exists When a 7th TTC line opens: imma end this mans whole Career The joke is, is that the number 6 of his logo is mad up of different colors each for the 2 lrt lines and the TTC’s current lines
im positive that extension did happen or im from a different universe because I remember construction of them ripping up the tracks or unless those were the old rail tracks from the old stock yards days that were every where in township of york
Your presentation at the start was visually blank for at least 15 seconds during your introductory voiceover. You should avoid this on future videos. While on the subject, your presentations would be much improved with more historical photos instead of the static presentation slides during voiceover. Just a suggestion. Overall I have enjoyed your streetcar series
Thanks. Unfortunately there isn't always enough photos to fill in the time so I end up with a lot of dead space in my videos, and I don't think making the image duration's longer would be any more entertaining. I do however hope to be able to go out and get actual video footage of the currently operating streetcar lines when I get to them, so that will help fill in the gaps for those videos.

Maybe this is the right time for a GO ALRT video as you promised?

Ossington to eglinton west could be interesting. The really glaring issue with these dead lines is the lack of connectivity to.. anything really.
Will you maybe do history on other streetcar around the region? Such as Hamilton or the Niagara streetcar?
