So I have wanted to try Octomore for years now. Always checking bars that I went to, to see if they had a bottle that I could get a pour of. This past week I finally found a 13.1 and ordered a pour. Sadly I got robbed because the touristy town I was in. Only after he poured it did he tell me- That'll be $100... But! price not considered I absolutley loved it and just ordered a 14.1.
Cool side by side. I have not yet tried a peated Bruichladdich but and game to try some. I think I would lean towards the 14.2 for the sweeter wine notes and interesting cask choices. I have a bottle of Islay Barkey 2013 coming in from Alberta this week and am looking forward to it being my first taste of Bruichladdich, unpeated but still looking forward to it. Great video Matt! Digging the shirt too! Cheers.
Thanks Tyler! Can't wait for you to try that Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 but even more so the peated Bruichladdich's like the Port Charlotte or Octomore. Hoping yo enjoy that Islay Barley as it is a bit more of a naked style than other Bruichladdich whiskies. Thanks again for checking out the video man, Cheers eh! 🥃 Oh, and enjoy the Masters!
Bought the 14.3 a few months ago. Can’t get any of them here in Ontario but i was in Vancouver so picked yup the .3. Had my first .3 (9.3) a few months ago and whoa, while the .1 is excellent, it’s blow your mind good. So I went for the .3. The PMC -01 is good stuff
Yeah, typically the 14.3's are my favourites though they all have their place at some for sure. But I totally agree, the .3's are just next level when done well(most of the time). Glad you were able to find one and that you are loving it Master Dad! Cheers eh! 🥃
I blinded the 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3. This is how they ranked for me: 14.3 > 14.1 > 14.2. My buddy gave me a sample of the 14.4, so I plan to re-blind all four of them and see how that changes things:)
Interesting results Travis! What sticks out to me are that our results are pretty similar. It was essentially a coin toss between the 14.1 and 14.3 for me and the 14.2 was clearly in 3rd which you also placed there. Would be cool to see how they line up with the inclusion of that 14.4. The only .4 I had was interesting but wasn't really to my preference. Cheers buddy! 🥃
Great review - i have many of the PC Exploration Series but only have the Octomore 7.3. The 14.1 is still available around here, so based on your review i may pick one up. I loved the 12 yo version of the Octomore 7.3 that they poured ar the distillery in August!
@garyk3675 Thanks Gary! I think it is really cool that the Octomore you do have is the one that you got to try a 12 year old version of at the distillery! So cool. Funny you bring that one up because I still have a small sample of that one at home as well as my own bottle of the 7.3. I'm hoping to do aside by side at some point. Thanks again for watching! Cheers buddy! 🥃
Interesting ranking Albiet based on samples…. As they all will evolve over time in oxidizing bottles… bottom line… they’re all great and as you allude…The PC cask exploration arguably offers the best value. Cheers 🥃
Yeah that is always the challenge with scoring samples because like you mention they absolutely would change over time in the bottle. That said I couldn't afford the $1,000 in bottles so the samples will have to do. The PC for sure was the best value of them all and the only one I've purchased so far.
When drinking(off camera) I'll often play with water and add until I find what I think is the best drinking point. That said, I won't add water to samples this small typically because I don't really have enough to play with in that way. Octomore I do typically find doesn't take water well but I have had mixed results adding water to the .2's and .3's in the past. Cheers Mark! 🥃
I'm from Scotland dude I am lucky islay makes best whisky in Scotland and I have had them all. I am a peat head and ocatamore is best in its class genius whisky making skills.
Great review. This year's Bruichladdich tasting didn't do it for me like previous ones did. Even the PMC didn't grab me and the cask exploration series is usually a highlight for me. Still not tempted on the Octomores this year though. Let them sit for the asking price says I. =)
Thanks Hex! I could see how this one could be a bit of a let down. I do think the SC:01 was a better cask exploration series bottlings. So often the best indication of how you feel about a whisky comes down to the wallet. Of the 4 whiskies I own one. It wasn't hard to limit myself to simply the PC PMC:01. It was the only reasonably priced bottle of them all. You've got the right prescription, let them sit for a good long while and see what atrophy will do to those sticker prices. Cheers buddy, hope you scooped up some good Feis tickets! 🥃
@utoobia The prices are so high the oxygen has gotten thin. The last "reasonably" priced Octomore for me was the 12.2. These will sit for a while. Cheers eh! 🥃
@@whiskyonthewestcoast Yep, and for the record they were all very good whiskies. But I’m not sure I’ve ever had a whisky that’s worth $250. Maybe. Good channel by the way! Keep up the good work.

Great line up and review! How does the 14.3 compare to older .3 bottlings? Cheers.
What a range here, love the walkthrough. Any of these would be hard to beat. Thanks Matt!!
Thanks Jon! I feel lucky to be able to try these whiskies all together like this. Agreed that all of them are pretty solid picks. Cheers Neighbour 🥃
Loved your tasting notes. I have the 14.3 head and shoulders above the other 2 Octos!
Enjoyable review as always, just wish I had them.
Thanks Sandy! Yeah, nice enough whiskies to own if you can afford them! Cheers buddy! 🥃

Love it! When I visited Scotland last year, Islay was a must visit. Octomore is a next level beast of a whisky. Thanks for watching! Cheers eh! 🥃

I’ve had three of them and not a single one is even close to being worth the cost.

Nice video! Something a bit off topic... Is there a reason why you're sipping your dram with the corner of your mouth? 🤔
Wondering this everytime i see it as well :D
