Save the dust from when you cut out the wood part of your project. Then when you glue in the brass parts, before you clamp it up, rub the fine sawdust into all of the cracks around wherever the brass touches the wood. This will fill in, and hide any slight imperfections that are there, and the color will match because the sawdust is from the same wood. I learned that trick from a man who inlays guitars. = )

Thank you for watching the video. Please do share the results after you have done the inlay on your sailboat. I would suggest you use a regular plunge router with a spiral downcut bit for engraving the wood. The Dremel may be too small for larger projects.

You are a brilliant craftsmen, your creations are truly beautiful. Youve also given me the solution to my inlay repair on my antique vanity mirror. It has a very thin tulip wood inlay which I need to replace and cut the recess for first. Router is too big for this fine work, you make it much more accurate and easier with this technique. And for cutting your brass plate with a Dremel, may I suggest a accessorie for the Dremel? It is a flexible extension that you can connect to the head of the Dremel. That way you do not need to hold the Dremel itself and the part that you hold is a whole lot smaller and therefore it's much easier to handle and it can get into tighter spaces as well! I absolutely think you would want one! And thank you for this video! I have learned how to tackle my next project!

Nice technique. Personally, after the random orbit sander I would sand the wood by hand, following the grain, with progressively finer glass paper or emery cloth (probably up to 1600 grit) to really give the brass a nice polished look.
Hi Steve , Thanks for watching the video and for your suggestion . In one of my projects I polished the brass with polishing paste and used felt wheels and my rotary tool to give a mirror finish to the brass.
Nice work, dropped a sub. I might suggest trying a simple hack saw for your rough cuts. They are not accurate but they are fast, inexpensive and very simple...and oddly satisfying. Thanks for sharing 👍

They are tables, as shown, on the number of the blade and how many teeth they have. Vallorbe in Switzerland is famous for it’s files and saw blades. Thanks for the work.

Hi DB thanks for watching the video. I think you can bend and create corners. 0.5 mm is thick enough to retain shape and not too thick which you cannot bend. But to get sharp 90 deg you may have to hold one side in a vice and then bend by hand and finally lightly hammer the free side of the brass piece. When completed please share your project n UA-cam and put a link in this conversation.
An easier way of cutting the pattern out of the sheet is by using a scroll saw with a metal blade. It's worth it for projects like this one with the fine cuts. Thanks for the video!

Vijay Gajjar - Thanks for watching this video. Minimum you need a small rotary tool like Dremel. Please check in the power tool market you may get many options. Sanding you can do by hand and machine is not mandatory.
Hi Brian thanks for watching the video. I apply a layer of varnish covering both the wood and the brass. This provides the gloss to the wood and protects the brass as well. I use clear polyurethane wood finish as the varnish.

Hi Zubayer I am not aware what is mappa ply. However in general plywood is not suitable for inlay as the ply is made with thin layers and on sanding the layer may come off . My suggestion please try with a small scrap piece of ply wood before doing it for your project.

try using gas arc wire it comes in silver and copper hammered down. Brass I don't know how to get but should be available.

That is a good III idea. I was wondering why he wasn't using a pair of tin snipes? Other than the fact that they can bend the metal.
We can use lesser cutting machine for brass, which may the esyest and precision cut.

Hi Zubayer I am not aware what is mappa ply. However in general plywood is not suitable for inlay as the ply is made with thin layers and on sanding the layer may come off . My suggestion please try with a small scrap piece of ply wood before doing it for your project.
