      @@ShogunAT3 Keep in mind too that it isn’t just the weight of the anchor either. If you notice the design of the anchor has two long flat prongs. Those will dig in to the bottom of the ocean as the captain reverses to set the anchor and pick up sand and rocks alike as it drags along the ocean floor and becomes buried. This adds a lot of weight to the end total as well and makes the anchor very secure. It is nearly impossible now a days to keep a boat this size in the same spot with just weight alone as the ocean also makes things lighter due to buoyancy.

      Actually we have its called dynamic positioning, all offshore construction vessels use it. However its expensive and anchoring is an easy form of remaining in position

    We dropped the anchor a lot when I was on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN 69. Also dropped to the yellow shot 3 times , on one Gulf Cruise . Boats Rule / Boats for Life ❤

      I've heard of people during WW2 getting their hands or arms stuck in the chain down in the cable locker when it let go. The Hawse was greased red and the remains were not recognizable as human. Cable holders varied. In sailing ships they didn't have chain, they used massive rope cables, small boys called Nippers, nipped small pieces of rope to the cable as it came up, Any sailors out there will know what this entails.

      The collar the chain drops true is solid mild steel, loads of extra material to wear off, would say the piece of metal it slides over is at least 15cm thick

    General speaking, in the case something goes wrong (like the anchor moving too fast) make sure to grab hold of the chain and hold onto it as tight as you can to help slow down the rate of decent. Hope this helps !

    Anchoring is one of the hardest part of ship operation. One mistake and you lose yr anchor and chain. Looks easy to bystanders but for the captain it takes a lot of nerves
