Is the Chinese Shar-Pei dog breed in danger again?
Over 50 years ago there were only a few Shar-Pei dogs left in China.
At the time The Chinese Communists came to power one of their first moves was to impose such a heavy tax on dogs that only the extremly wealthy could afford the luxury of canine companionship. A further edict declared dogs a "decadent bourgeois luxury" and banned dog breeding.
Today it seems that that he Shar-Pei dog was again in danger! Extreme animal protection activists in Germany and other European countries are calling for the end of the Shar-Pei breed. Their accusation: The Shar-Pei breed is a torture breed in general!

Most Shar Pei in Northern America are not pure Shar Pei! Original Shar Pei are not as wrinkly and they are much bigger too.
Why are they calling for an end to your breeding of Shar Pei? Your boy is a handsome fellow.
In Germany, but also across Europe, animal protection activists are taking massive action against the controlled breeding of purebred dogs. They are currently trying to bring about a change in the animal protection law in Germany, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation and could therefore endanger many dog breeds. Our Shar-Pei breed is also concerned.
