Can you do without feterlizing at all.. Like zero fertilizer? if one has a fish farm, can the outflow water be used as an alternative to fertilization especially if one is doing the Yam Sack ? I have learned so much on your farm and I would really love to dive into Yam farming.. Is it posible to provide hydropondics for the roots while it grows in sacks?
It better to use fertilizer either organic or inorganic, choice is yours.
Yes you can water from fish pond. It has lots of nitrogen.
That is an option to explore (I mean the hydroponics)

How long will my poultry manure take to be cured?
A minimum of 4 weeks but always check. Until the heat is completely gone, but u can apply earlier than that , only don't allow it get too close the germinating roots.
But if you prefer to mix with soil before you make your heap, apply 2 to 3 weeks earlier because it takes about 2 weeks for organic manure to mineralize into the nutrients the plants can use.

How many kg of soil is in a heap? This should be considered when doing yam sack.
It depends on the size of sack and whether the soil is moist or wet
@@Naturesheritagenetwork Since the aim is to get a bigger tubber. So one should meet up to the standard as in the heaps. the 100kg Bag of Beans.. The amount of soil in a heap, will it be equal to the 100kg bag of Beans? What is also the amount of moisture in soil at any given time.. One can also measure that in a controled system.. As in the bags..

Even Up to 5 can climb. For yams in sacks, up to 10 can even climb a stake

All I am after by asking these questions is to maximize my harvest because I am starting for the first time in my entire life. I was born & brought up at the riverine area where there is no land let alone farming. But this year I just made up my mind, according to the lessons learnt from Buhari & Tinubu administrations, to go into farming. And reason for my questions is just to ensure I get it right.
@@BolaAyadi if you have plenty sticks to use, you can do 1 to 1 but u can do oore than one and get good results too
@@Naturesheritagenetwork I got some palm kernel dust from some local Oil Mill, bag them in sacks two spade down the sack & some chicken manure from my backyard on top the two spade of dust then fill the sack to the bream & I plant my yam. Though I was told to use tried chicken manure hence I put it down the sack to have it compost before the roots & tuber get to the stage. Am I making any sense at all???
Because I am still on the process. I kept the sack bag after filling in the dust with the manure down it, just to allow the compost.

Pls sir, what is the average size of yam seedlings for planting in heap and that of planting in ridges? Can an average seed yam b planted on ridges? What is the distance between two heaps? Finally, I noticed you don't plant cassava in your yam farm pls is there any disadvantage in doing that,? Keep up the good work! God bless you!
Average size is 250g-350g is just ok.
Either heap or ridge but I prefer heap. Distance is 1meter tip of one heap to tip of another.
Cassava and yams are both tubers and are heavy feeders on nutrients, planting both at same time will definitely reduce yield of particularly the yams. If u must do both, plant yams first and give a space of about 3 to 4 months before planting cassava. That way the yams get to do well before the cassava takes off.

What do u do when your yam has already broken dormancy and the stem has already grown up to 3feet b4 u r ready plant. Do u plant with the stems or cut them off half way or lower?
Any of the above mentioned is good but don't remove completely. I like to plant it that way so it finds it's path of reestablishment by itself

I want to plant yams but they haven't broken dormancy yet. Will they still grow?
It's better to wait. Put them in a cool dark place and water once weekly. In 2 or 3 weeks u have your sprouts
