More the stocks are shared with the employees hired, the value starts to reduce to minimal. For example if you try to sell your stocks for some decent money but guess what, you won't be able to make the money you were thinking of cos as you start to sell your stocks, the value of your share is degrading by every distribution you make as the market is getting flooded by the same kind of stocks, isn't it? Stock ownership won't guarantee you a fixed all time value. It may hike or it may just disparage. That's what you gotta keep in mind👍

I was restricting myself from seeing this so that I continue to study and crack the exam at least with false hope. So basically I will get 90k-1 lakh per month for 4 years of ass scrubbing. Correction : 1.RSU are taxed about 35 % at time of vesting which get adjusted as per local taxation. You can see your paid tax in form 16 and further in ITR. Everyone need to pay taxes why to crib about it. 2. Allowances are for employee benefit. If you don't submit bills they will be paid under special allowance. Facts are correct but just felt that they have been extrapolated just to prove the point.

When someone says "Yaar details bohot complicated hai, but summary yeh hai" please understand, that it's their understanding of those details. Students at IITs and NITs are not the ones that traditionally shy away from details, and so their understanding is different. Ofcourse there is risk of not receiving the entire promised payout...but each student weighs these odds when taking up the offer. Things change completely one/two year(s) down into their career for smart people and they are able to leverage these details to get better offers/better terms. Thus somebody who has 50 lac on paper will be able to negotiate more than someone who has 12/14 lac on paper. Don't let this video discourage you into complacency/despondency...know that since the market is free, it's fair.

I am a graduate from IIT BHU in 2017 and only half a dozen companies gave salary more than 1 lakh per month in hand - Goldman Sachs, Tower Research, GE Digital, few APM roles. Try applying there. It's really hard for even a T1 student To even get invite for a coding test there. Passing the coding test is really difficult for TR, then interview rounds even more. Basically Tower Research, CodeNation are companies even harder to crack than Google. Because these companies rely on exceptionally good Competitive Prog Skills. Glad he got an offer there, its damn damn hard. I am from a Tier 1 Institute and TR comes to my college too, but hardly takes anyone. The hardest of coding rounds are of these 2 companies.

Selling of RSUs' do not attract 10% tax on the whole amount. Its exactly same as stocks and its only the gains which are taxed and they are taxed under short-term/long-term capital gains tax. So if you get stocks worth 15 lakhs in a year(60 lakhs for all 4 years), there would be units assigned to you equivalent to 15 lakhs when you join(units are assigned for all 4 years when you join infact). Lets say the stock price at that time is Rs.10000(around $140), so you will get 150 units for each year. By the time the stocks vest next year, lets say the stock price increases to Rs.15000. In your IT returns, 150*15000 will be shown as your income i.e. 22.5 lakhs and regular tax would be applied. At 30% tax rate, effectively you would get 105 units(value of 70% of 22.5 lakhs) vested at the end of first year, which would translate to Rs.15.75 lakhs with tax cut. Now at the end of year, stock price can also fall below Rs.10000 but for strong companies, that rarely happens. In case of an seasonal crash of stock market, the stock of a good company should recover, so only thing which matters for companies offering RSU is overall financial health of the company. Now what happens when you sell the stock. Its the time of vesting which matters. Lets say when you sell the stock stock prices increases from Rs.15000 at the time of vesting to Rs. 20000, the value of 105 stocks would now be Rs. 21 lakhs. This would attract capital gains tax for the gains earned only i.e. Rs.21lakh-Rs.15.75 lakh i.e. Rs. 5.25 lakhs. For foreign stocks, selling them before 2 years would attract short term capital gains tax of 30% and long term capital gains tax of 20%(stocks in India have LTCG of only 10%). You also get benefit of indexation i.e. after 2 years, buying price would not be considered 15.75 lakhs but higher, due to inflation adjusted indexation i.e. say something like Rs. 17 lakhs(actual increase would depend on values published by IT department). It is 21 lakh - 17 lakh or 4 lakh, you would pay tax on. At 20%, if you sell it post 2 years, it would Rs.80000 worth of extra tax. So when you sell, you would get Rs.20.2 lakhs. Of course, you would lose money on conversion charges, WIRE transfer, etc. too. And end up with say only, say, Rs. 19.5 lakhs in your indian bank account. RSUs' are a great way to make money in a bull market and may infact turn out to be better than normal in-hand salary. Equity tends to give higher returns. Also, while first vest happens after a year, subsequent vests happen every 3 months or 1 month, depending on company.

Good explanation But you are explaining keeping RSU values constant for all the 4 years. Once the RSUs are vested in coming years, the amount increases with market trends. The one that gets vested in the 4th year gives you more amount ( if other 3 parts are sold) as the cost price was 4 years before and if the company is growing well then you get more amount than what was allocated at the time of offer. This is still demotivating to students who get less package, for if the salary is 50l then you get 1 lakh p m but if it is 25 then perhaps they end up with 20-25k pm?

IIT's are too overrated in India, go check the top 500 universities in the world rated by both THE TIMES and QS world ranking, only 3-4 IIT's have made it and out of that not even 1 has made it to the top 100. I'm not saying they're bad but because of the competition getting into IITs have become a social norm in India and some students literally commit suicide if they fail to get accepted or don't score well in JEE mains/advanced I mean the number of students that grind straight for 1-2 years at places like Kota which is nothing but a business model for the entire JEE exam industry you can call it that because that's the truth, students are made to sacrifice an entire year(in which they could easily bag some sort of scholarship and study abroad where the tuition fee is cheap) and the institutions are money motivated. if our government would be so kind to invest more in educational infrastructure and quality of education then millions of students wouldn't have to depend on few selected universities and colleges and neither would we have to go abroad
It is very expensive to study abroad. Tution fees in europe and america is very high. Living cost is high. You will have to study for scholarship exam. Do part time job. You will have debt after you graduate.

When someone says "Yaar details bohot complicated hai, but summary yeh hai" please understand, that it's their understanding of those details. Students at IITs and NITs are not the ones that traditionally shy away from details, and so their understanding is different. Ofcourse there is risk of not receiving the entire promised payout...but each student weighs these odds when taking up the offer. Things change completely one/two year(s) down into their career for smart people and they are able to leverage these details to get better offers/better terms. Thus somebody who has 50 lac on paper will be able to negotiate more than someone who has 12/14 lac on paper. Don't let this video discourage you into complacency/despondency...know that since the market is free, it's fair.

I am a graduate from IIT BHU in 2017 and only half a dozen companies gave salary more than 1 lakh per month in hand - Goldman Sachs, Tower Research, GE Digital, few APM roles. The salaries that you dream of will be available in 3-5 years post graduation.

Try applying there. It's really hard for even a T1 student To even get invite for a coding test there. Passing the coding test is really difficult for TR, then interview rounds even more. Basically Tower Research, CodeNation are companies even harder to crack than Google. Because these companies rely on exceptionally good Competitive Prog Skills. Glad he got an offer there, its damn damn hard. I am from a Tier 1 Institute and TR comes to my college too, but hardly takes anyone. The hardest of coding rounds are of these 2 companies.

Selling of RSUs' do not attract 10% tax on the whole amount. Its exactly same as stocks and its only the gains which are taxed and they are taxed under short-term/long-term capital gains tax. So if you get stocks worth 15 lakhs in a year(60 lakhs for all 4 years), there would be units assigned to you equivalent to 15 lakhs when you join(units are assigned for all 4 years when you join infact). Lets say the stock price at that time is Rs.10000(around $140), so you will get 150 units for each year. By the time the stocks vest next year, lets say the stock price increases to Rs.15000. In your IT returns, 150*15000 will be shown as your income i.e. 22.5 lakhs and regular tax would be applied. At 30% tax rate, effectively you would get 105 units(value of 70% of 22.5 lakhs) vested at the end of first year, which would translate to Rs.15.75 lakhs with tax cut. Now at the end of year, stock price can also fall below Rs.10000 but for strong companies, that rarely happens. In case of an seasonal crash of stock market, the stock of a good company should recover, so only thing which matters for companies offering RSU is overall financial health of the company.
Now what happens when you sell the stock. Its the time of vesting which matters. Lets say when you sell the stock stock prices increases from Rs.15000 at the time of vesting to Rs. 20000, the value of 105 stocks would now be Rs. 21 lakhs. This would attract capital gains tax for the gains earned only i.e. Rs.21lakh-Rs.15.75 lakh i.e. Rs. 5.25 lakhs. For foreign stocks, selling them before 2 years would attract short term capital gains tax of 30% and long term capital gains tax of 20%(stocks in India have LTCG of only 10%). You also get benefit of indexation i.e. after 2 years, buying price would not be considered 15.75 lakhs but higher, due to inflation adjusted indexation i.e. say something like Rs. 17 lakhs(actual increase would depend on values published by IT department).
It is 21 lakh - 17 lakh or 4 lakh, you would pay tax on. At 20%, if you sell it post 2 years, it would Rs.80000 worth of extra tax. So when you sell, you would get Rs.20.2 lakhs. Of course, you would lose money on conversion charges, WIRE transfer, etc. too. And end up with say only, say, Rs. 19.5 lakhs in your indian bank account.
RSUs' are a great way to make money in a bull market and may infact turn out to be better than normal in-hand salary. Equity tends to give higher returns.
Also, while first vest happens after a year, subsequent vests happen every 3 months or 1 month, depending on company.

But you are explaining keeping RSU values constant for all the 4 years. Once the RSUs are vested in coming years, the amount increases with market trends. The one that gets vested in the 4th year gives you more amount ( if other 3 parts are sold) as the cost price was 4 years before and if the company is growing well then you get more amount than what was allocated at the time of offer.
This is still demotivating to students who get less package, for if the salary is 50l then you get 1 lakh p m but if it is 25 then perhaps they end up with 20-25k pm?
Imagine if company is not doing well and your stock price becomes half due to poor global scenario

IIT's are too overrated in India, go check the top 500 universities in the world rated by both THE TIMES and QS world ranking, only 3-4 IIT's have made it and out of that not even 1 has made it to the top 100. I'm not saying they're bad but because of the competition getting into IITs have become a social norm in India and some students literally commit suicide if they fail to get accepted or don't score well in JEE mains/advanced I mean the number of students that grind straight for 1-2 years at places like Kota which is nothing but a business model for the entire JEE exam industry you can call it that because that's the truth, students are made to sacrifice an entire year(in which they could easily bag some sort of scholarship and study abroad where the tuition fee is cheap) and the institutions are money motivated. if our government would be so kind to invest more in educational infrastructure and quality of education then millions of students wouldn't have to depend on few selected universities and colleges and neither would we have to go abroad

Bro just one correction, the 30% tax will also be later paid/added to your salary account when 1 year vesting gets completed.
And when someone finally sell the RSU apart from the transaction charges ,year end tax will be deducted based on the amount.
