I enjoy your videos and you seem like a pretty smart guy.. but a $300 lifetime subscription for any service should be a giant red flag. When has this ever worked out in the long term for any company? Either this is a last-ditch attempt to raise funds before the company goes bust, or these users will eventually become too much of a burden for the company and they'll look for ways to get out of the deal / otherwise dilute the value of the lifetime subscription. In the very long term this is simply not a sustainable way of doing business, and there's almost no chance that you don't know this. This is not crypto-scam levels of dishonest, but it's at least a little sketchy.
Hope you keep up the good videos, though! FWIW I did buy a wallet through your Bellroy link and the person I bought it for loves it :)

in my opinion, there is another fraction that lookes at this whole mess, especially project 2025: it's europeans, who think that this thing is flat out crazy. furthermore, we have proper cities with good public transportation that isn't just a pit where money disappears.
so, it's a lot of fun that things like public transportation, healthcare, etc work reasonably well in european countries.

7:40 I hate the "both sides" argument so much. When two people are arguing about whether it is sunny or rainy outside, the job of media isn't to consider both arguments equally and decide which is more convincing, it is to literally open the curtains and see for themselves.

"both sides" is confusing abstraction and fence-sitting for nuance and, for all intents and purposes, it's vouching for the morons whose ideology cannot be worked with. they say that shit because they want to translate "I don't know jack shit about this situation" into "I am a fucking harbinger of truth and reason." I wouldn't get so belligerent if they would just say the former.

Its their work around from the right's successful lie " left wing media bias" which ultimately arose from coverage of Nixon... and one republican in the 70's losing an election and claimed it was because of the left wing media bias. It was a lie then, and is a lie now.
Its a great weapon for republicans because it allows them to get away with more things and the media will hyper focus on anything negative a democrat does so they can look impartial. People end up thinking both sides are the same when in fact one committed murder, and one jay walked. Both broke the law, but thanks to media coverage, the viewer just comes away thinking both are criminals.

That's true but it's true if both major parties. Blackrock wants to own and rent everything and they are the largest political donor to both campaigns. They have people in the whitehouse right now and they did with trump too. Obama had goldman Sachs.
If anyone really wants an ally in power you will need to look to third parties. The very reason they "will never win" is because they pose such a threat to the currently captured and corrupt system. So casually glancing at them usually means you see the worst and none of the good policy or character. Since the media makes that hard to find but the mucjravki g readily available.
P2025 is a think tank wish list. Both sides have these every election. While I don't agree with it I'm also not going to act like it has any chance to achieve half of what it states. Fundamentally our government still works the same way and by design is entrenched against change and progress in either direction. You guys can chill. But again third party is the only way to avoid privatization of all assets and functions in society.

You’ll never, ever have well functioning state services. At the moment, NC literally doesn’t have enough DMV employees to process medical recertifications for CDLs, so people are losing their commercial licenses even though they sent in the medical paper work.
But I’m sure cutting the budget further and having even fewer employees will solve it! 🙄
Or how GA literally doesn’t have enough farm inspectors, but keeps having issues getting permits for agriculture done. I’m sure cutting their budget further will speed that up!
Or how literally every southern state is behind on bridge inspections. Definitely should cut those budgets, clearly that will solve it.
It’s not like we actually desperately need any of these services to work in a timely manner. Better to hire 4 people to do the job of ten, but pay them so little you ensure there is never any institutional knowledge built up. That’ll improve efficiency!

@@stvp68 not really. If you only think of "more people = more urban" then I guess you're right but, apart from the most densely populated regions like the Northeast Corridor, what is happening is continued suburban sprawl. The suburbs are getting more populated and, sure, maybe a little bit more densely populated, but generally towns are being built out and not up. To me, building "out" is not inherently more urban. It just means states like Ohio and Illinois and Utah maintain a similar population density but way more traffic. Furthermore, if city leadership were (1) more motivated to reduce car infrastructure and (2) it were legally permissible to do so by changing zoning laws, fewer people would be moving to the suburbs and cities like Houston, SF, Omaha, Seattle, and countless others would be able to build more housing, housing would be cheaper, and small businesses would have more of a fighting chance. Not to mention, less suburban development would be required which would help preserve the natural environment that rural people and so many suburbanites want to enjoy.

I can live in an suburb on the edge of town, living in a city, and not have to deal with any of that. I get my monthly treats of samosas and the occasional concert or play. None of which involves going into the core city whcih is what they're talking about.

I am an American, with Canadian parents, which means I grew up in Canada. I can honestly say that the robust public transit of Vancouver means that many people don't need cars. It is far less about class division and much more about convenience. The Sky Train in the Greater Vancouver area truly gave me an amazing adolescence, as I had the freedom to get to school or downtown or to numerous sub-urban areas. When I moved to Los Angeles, as an young adult, I had actual transportation culture shock. Not to mention that public transit is really helpful for disabled, elderly or anyone who doesn't drive, for whatever reason. It doesn't have to be such a class-based model, as seen in America already.

“Most people don’t want to live in dense urban areas” is ironic in multiple ways. First being that the denser the urban areas, the less dense the non-urban areas would be for the people who like having that rural space. And secondly because “most people” are most definitely living in dense urban areas because the area is, by definition, densely populated. I’ve lived in rural nowhere my whole life and my small town (classified as a village based off population count) is more or less a “15 minute city” the school, library, town hall, post office, singular stop light where the two state routes meet, two gas stations, a dollar general, a few small businesses and churches, and all residential housing is within like 2 square miles of area. I could walk anywhere if I wanted, and a city built with the same walk sense but denser housing would suit me fine.

At first I didn't catch the sarcasm occasionally, but apparently the way my brain processes it is by treating like a new word I've never heard before: my brain either says "not important" and skips it, or stops until I think about it. I'm a little more used to it now.

I love these videos, the Pick Up Truck Response video was one of your best ones from an entertainment standpoint at least. It would definitely get old since you're top tier in information.
I do feel for the comment about being bummed that urbanism has become a partisan issue. The US's 2 party system has basically made one side completely insane and leaves most people with no choice but to vote single ticket in a lot ways (purposely vague because I'm sure both sides think this), but the rural vs urban divide is a sub-problem of it. If you care about walkability or urbanism at all in the US you don't have a lot of options between big cities or absurdly expensive small college towns, and the cheaper cities that CityNerd mentions a lot as punching above their weight are in swing/red states that have other issues. The idea of living in a small town with easy, frequent regional rail to the nearest big city is basically non-existent here.

I used to be conservative. I attended the first Columbus, Ohio Tea Party in 2009 with about a hundred people including me and a smattering of other College Republicans from tOSU. I attended the next year when there were 10x that many. Since 2011, when I admitted to myself and others that I had been convinced by socialism, social welfare as a project, and liberal democracy, I never looked back.
All that to say: even when I was conservative (albeit a libertarian, minarchist flavor) all of the things in the Strong Towns platform would have been things I would advocate for. I sometimes can't believe "conservatives" who believe in getting government out of their way and keeping it within its means balk at removing government when it stops people from doing harmless, or even virtuous, things! A great example of an organization who tends to attract conservatives, but is really nonpartisan, is the Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Research. I hope to see them working on and with these types of initiatives in the future.
Although, I must say, I was essentially orangepilled by living near tOSU and seeing how cool life could be carfree or car-lite. My move towards liberalism/democratic socialism was certainly on an aligned path with urbanism. I very much see how that pattern of "person who's from a tiny town or rural area goes to university and experiences density and human-scale environments and leans to love it" is so common.

Urbanism doesn't need to be "political," but one party is pretty set against it, so obviously it's a conversation Democrats have among ourselves. Come along if you feel like it!

I bought the nebula lifetime membership, having watched nebula for years under the bundle membership. However, I still find it hard to find what I'm interested in. I know it's there, because it gets mentioned elsewhere, but it's still a frustrating struggle to get to it, and I often give up and go to UA-cam. This is the main factor that needs improving.

    • @itsROMPERS...
      @itsROMPERS... Місяць тому

Exactly. I joined Nebula a couple years ago but I rarely watch it because the UI is just dreadful, in fact so is the general coding.
I tried getting into the app but it keeps trying to make me sign up for an account, even while it says I'm currently "signed in".
I have talked to Nebula to resolve this, but so far they can't, and the only way I can access it is through a browser.
Even when I used the app it kept going into portrait mode when I wanted to be in landscape, so I'd have to browser through videos SIDEWAYS.
It might have good content, but otherwise it's total shit.

Governor Walz's Signature Accomplishments, taken from the Minnesota government website
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan took office in January 2019 on the promise of One Minnesota: the vision that, while we are not all the same, we are at our best when we work across lines of difference to improve the lives of all Minnesotans. Facing unprecedented challenges, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan led with a focus on investing in the things that matter most: children and families, economic opportunity, health and safety, and strong local communities. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor continue building on the accomplishments of their first term to improve the lives of Minnesotans across the state.
      Historic investments in education
Governor Walz signed a $2.3 billion education budget into law - the single-largest investment in public education in state history. Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan also provided Minnesota students free breakfast and lunch at school, created thousands of new pre-k seats, expanded access to mental health resources for students, and made significant investments to improve child literacy.
      Protecting Personal Freedoms
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan established ironclad reproductive freedom, protections for Trans individuals, and gender-affirming care as fundamental rights in Minnesota. Governor Walz also banned the cruel, outdated practice of “conversion therapy” and ended book bans based on ideology.
      Improving Public Health and Safety
Governor Walz banned the use of hand-held cell phones while driving and raised the age to purchase tobacco to 21. The Governor provided $300 million for public safety needs across the state to combat crime and broke ground on a new, centralized Minnesota State Patrol headquarters. Governor Walz took meaningful action to protect communities from gun violence, signing bills establishing a red flag law, expanding background checks, increasing criminal penalties for straw purchasing guns, and banning deadly binary trigger guns.
      Expanding Workers’ Rights
To make Minnesota the best state for workers, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan established paid leave, ensured paid sick days, banned non-compete agreements, and increased protections for workers in Amazon warehouses, construction sites, hospitals, nursing homes, and public schools.
      Strong Communities and Infrastructure
Governor Walz signed the largest infrastructure bill in Minnesota’s history into law to rebuild roads and bridges, repair fire stations and water treatment plants, and upgrade veterans’ homes, fish hatcheries, and flood mitigation systems - all while creating good-paying union jobs for Minnesotans. Governor Walz also provided funding to remove and replace lead pipes across the state.
Tax Cuts for Working Families and the Middle Class
Governor Walz has cut taxes with every one of his budgets. Governor Walz has delivered a variety of rebate checks up to $1,300 to seniors, students, workers, and middle-class families. He also lowered taxes for small businesses and fully exempted state taxes on social security for more than three quarters of seniors.
      Workforce Development
Governor Walz has invested millions in workforce development to connect Minnesotans to high-growth, high-demand career fields like manufacturing, education, and public safety. To lower costs and grow Minnesota’s workforce, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan provided free college for students with a family income under $80,000. They also invested over $1 billion in child care and early learning opportunities.
      Expanding Voting Rights
Governor Walz signed into law the largest expansion of voting rights in Minnesota in the last half century, restoring voting rights for over 55,000 formerly incarcerated people in Minnesota, establishing automatic voter registration, creating a permanent absentee voting status, and pre-registering 16- and 17-year-olds to vote. Governor Walz also signed the Minnesota Voting Rights Act into law - prohibiting standards that would deny or limit any citizen’s right to vote based on their race, color, or language.
      Lowering Prescription Drug Costs
In 2023, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan took new action to significantly lower the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and middle-class families. They also enacted the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act to provide Minnesotans with emergency assistance and hold insulin manufacturers accountable.
      Protecting Our Environment
Governor Walz signed a bipartisan bill to lead Minnesota to 100% clean electricity by 2040 all while creating good-paying jobs for Minnesotans. In 2023 alone, he signed over 40 climate initiatives into law - including provisions banning PFAS “forever chemicals,” expanding Minnesota’s electric vehicle infrastructure, and providing a tax credit for electric vehicle purchases. And in 2024, he cut red tape for clean energy projects to put a downpayment on rapid clean energy job growth.
      CUTTING CHILD POVERTY
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan established a nation-leading child tax credit to cut child poverty in Minnesota by up to one-third.
      INCREASING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Governor Walz signed a historic $1 billion investment in housing into law - building a foundation for safety, stability, and economic growth across the state. Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan also took new action to protect tenants’ rights.
      LEGALIZING ADULT-USE CANNABIS
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan legalized adult-use cannabis and expunged nonviolent cannabis convictions in Minnesota.
      PROTECTING MINNESOTA CONSUMERS
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan helped more Minnesotans recover from medical debt - banning medical debt from impacting credit scores, preventing medical providers from withholding medically necessary care due to unpaid debt, and eliminating automatic transfers of medical debt to a patient's spouse. Governor Walz also signed a bill into law banning hidden junk fees and cracking down on fraudulent ticket sales.
      PROTECTING SENIORS
To protect Minnesota seniors, Governor Walz signed historic, bipartisan elder abuse legislation to regulate assisted-living centers for the first time. He also allocated $173 million in direct funding for 340 nursing homes across the state.
