It's true dedication that Gene Kelly performed that famous rain dance when he was sick with a temperature. More proof that he was one of the best dancers of his generation.
@@KrittersCorner56 I'm surprised at the top choice. Not that it's a bad dance number...just surprised (I guess because it's not from a noteworthy film, such as West Side Story or Grease), especially as MsMojo seems to love Singin in the Rain in her other lists.
Just recently started watching Gene Kelly’s movies, thanks to another list in this channel, and I am so grateful. Big fan now! Great list, can’t disagree with any of them!
I LOVE that you put What a Feeling from Flashdance at #16! That was the number one song on Billboard the day I was born (hence the "83" in my user name)
I think the dance scenes from Last Night In Soho are incredibly underrated. The editing and the practical effects letting characters weave in and out of their respective time periods is one of the most striking visuals I've ever seen. If there's a top 100 list made, it at least has to crack that.
Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! Goldwyn Follies (1938) also had good dance scenes. One of them was Vera Zorina in Balanchine's (Undine) Water Nymph Ballet. The actress was born in Germany, so in 1940, Fantasia did a parody of the first scene by using Hyacinth.
A lot of these I expected, some I had never heard of, so nice to discover these :) I'm missing both the tango scene from Moulin Rouge and the 96000 scene from in the heights though. They are some of my personal favourites :)
8:27 for anyone interested: the real-life band Gaelic Storm are in this scene and playing their hearts out. They are just as awesome IRL and in their albums as Titanic suggests. Whenever they played at the Dublin Irish Festival (er, Dublin OH), they always got most of the crowd to their feet.
I still cannot comprehend why all the wonderful and intriguing dances in Oliver ! do not get mentioned ! 😰 From Ompahpah and Consider yourself and I'd do anything to food glorious food, almost every ensemble song has amazing chorography as well !
Not going to argue, you put together a great list. (That LaLa Land opener really does make you homesick for the LA in your heart and besides Rita's purple dress, don't forget George Chakiris danced as Riff (London stage) and Bernardo (Best Supporting Actor, movie). One teensy comment tho', it would have been nice to show Fred Astaire dancing with -- mop, hat rack, golf club, rain coat, etc. -- in response to the crack, "Who do you think you are, Fred Astaire?!" After years of being a gentleman, didn't Fred say he had the most fun dancing with Rita Hayworth? A great dancer in her own right.
I have been watching movies for 71 years (when I saw the rerelease of WAR OF THE WORLDS with Gene Barry, I realized I must have been taken to the movies in 1953 to see it. Several brilliant ensemble sequences are missing, including the PRELUDE in WEST SIDE STORY, The COTILLIAN SCENE FROM MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, the amazing scene with Van Johnson and the citizens of BRIGADOON, The CIRCUS PERFORMANCE scene FROM BILLY ROSE'S JUMBO (the last film on which the legendary Busby Berkely worked), the GARDEN SCENE with Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth from YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER, the scene in which Fred Astaire dances with Jane Powell in ROYAL WEDDING, THE "love look away" ballet from FLOWER DRUM SONG, the "A Couple of Swells" scene with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland from EASTER PARADE, The "trolly scene" with Judy Garland from MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS and, more recently, the incredibly choreographed STEP UP: REVOLUTION, without which LA LA LAND would NEVER have been made. Let's face it, Michael Jackson videos and live performances brought back the movie musical. I seriously doubt Chicago would have been made without the influence of Michael Jackson. I even enjoyed the Patrick Swayze/Lisa Niemi-produced ONE LAST DANCE, the Chinese import HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS and the magical SUCKER PUNCH. Just like the Sergio Leone DOLLARS TRILOGY, traditional Hollywood was never the same after Leone showed HE knew more about the history of the 19th century West and our War Between The States than ANY Hollywood filmmaker, including John Ford.
the dance off in Earth Girls are Easy should have made the list. it's obv not choreographed as a Gene Kelly's movie, but it was really well made and showed the dance moves of that era
There's nothing good nor special of all the songs from The Greatest Showman, as its songs and the movie overall, are absolute trash. A pure absolute woke trash, nothing more. Furthermore, The Greatest Showman is a disgrace and a travesty to all musical genre (alongside 2019's Cats), and has no business of being a part of the list of best musical films, ever.
@@ajpat9620 Damn, my whole life was lie. I was so young when i watched it and i actually enjoyed it. Never to realize it was THAT BAD. I liked the songs, i thought the choreo was good especially From Now On i liked it. Now that i know what it actually is, it seems like my life was ruined.
@@hakase8381 Come on. That movie was that bad. It was downright awful. Both The Greatest Showman and 2019's Cats nearly ruined the reputation of musical film genre, and that's a fact there.
@@ajpat9620 yeah, now that i realized that my whole perception of this movie has changed. Knowing that i have watched an actual good musical film like Tick.. Tick.. Boom. Compared to that, the greatest showman was nothing.
@@ajpat9620I didn't like the greatest showman either, but it didn't ruin the reputation of the musical genre, it was in fact quite successful and people seemed to generally enjoy it, unlike Cats. Also I don't know how it was woke? If anything it was the opposite.
I get the love for 'Step in Time' from 'Mary Poppins', which regularly turns up on these lists, but another Dick Van Dyke number that is at least its equal is 'Me Ol' Bamboo' from 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
In one of the interviews about Titanic Kate Winslet let on that Leo was nervous about the dance scene asa he'd never done an irsh jig. Kate said it's ok I'll show you as she has irish family and the line he used about not knowing the steps was correct.
For grace, I'd have to take the tap dance routine with Astaire in white coattails with his lady partner (can't remember the partner's or the movie's name). Between Astaire and Kelly, I will always pick Astaire.
Many dozens of wonderful dance sequences from movies from the Golden Age of film musicals were left off of this list of “The Greatest ... of All Time.” During the years after 1955, very few musical films with dance were made, so sometimes, the films on this “Greatest” list were the only ones made during some years. Perhaps they seemed “great” because they were the only one. In the long panorama of musical films, I would not consider a scene from Titanic or the bottle dance from “Fiddler” to be extraordinary. The dance from “La La Land,” a disappointment on first viewing, is not comparable to Astaire and Rogers, Astaire alone or with other partners, Gene Kelly, the Nicholas Brothers, James Cagney, Ann Miller, Eleanor Powell, Cyd Charisse, Bill Robinson and Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Ruby Keeler, and the staging of Busby Berkeley. And then there were more dancing stars - Betty Grable, Ray Bolger, Hermes Pan (a choreographer), Rita Hayworth, Carmen Miranda, Buddy Ebsen, Donald O’Connor, Dan Daily, the Berry Brothers, Vera-Ellen, Bob Fosse, Marge and Gower Champion. Each of them deserves a place (and sometimes many places, for their many wonderful dances) on any list of “the best.”
Wow, in both your top 30 and top 50 you didn't include a fabulous dance scene by a song actually called, "Shall we Dance." The King and I. What on earth?!
you can't not include the tango scene from Scent of a Woman and the Mia and Vincent dance from pulp fiction only honorable mention. Actually invalidates the list.
You guys missed some biggies….any dance from best little whorehouse in Texas, the “we got Annie” and hard knock life dance from Annie, the closing dance from girls just want to have fun…the African ant eater ritual from can’t buy me love…
It's true dedication that Gene Kelly performed that famous rain dance when he was sick with a temperature. More proof that he was one of the best dancers of his generation.
Wow, talk about commitment!
I'm shocked that was not number one. Still a great list.
How is it not # 1?

Knowing that the Nicholas brothers were self-taught dancers made their number even better.
Yes,but making conversation,love mojo.
Love, mojo, the comments and quick count down. Love this channel.
Finally, Eleanor Powell gets the credit she deserves in one of your dance lists. She was the best!
Thanks for including Kid n Play in the top 50. Part of my childhood (and several of my friends!)

Don't miss Summer Stock where he takes on another great inanimate dance partner!
@@cijmo Thank you so much! I saw it during the weekend and it was a fantastic!!! The dancing with the paper was sooo cool!
Thank you for including some of the less known, deserving dance scenes.
Jumping Jive is truly a great dance scene along with Prove Me Wrong in White Lights and You Can’t Stop the Beat in Hairspray
I LOVE that you put What a Feeling from Flashdance at #16! That was the number one song on Billboard the day I was born (hence the "83" in my user name)
Great video. Very glad Strictly Ballroom made it on your list 🇦🇺💜💜
Airplane, Beetlejuice, Coming to America, Beauty and the Beast, Scent of a Woman, The Mask, The Mask of Zorro.
The stairwork of the Nicholas Brothers was one of the most iconic dance scenes of all time! 😊😊😊
Danny Kaye was so handsome. 😊❤
Just for one moment I thought number one wouldn’t be included which would have been a crime. What an amazing scene, it’s just unbelievable.
Definitely "Step in time" from Mary Poppins. Have a happy saturday night, Emely, take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I love Mary Poppins! What's great with MP Is, while it may come off as a simplified sugary children's musical, it's actually rather deep

Dancing on roller skates Fred and Ginger truly outstanding.

Not having anything from swing time is no bueno…even so, you can’t argue number one
Surprised a dance number from “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” didn’t make the list

Don't forget that Ryan Gosling was a Mouseketeer, and did a lot of dancing when he was a kid.
Loved the list, especially #1!! But, I would have added "Got a lot of Livin to Do" from "Bye Bye Birdie"!
agree with the list with one exception, the twist and shout scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it should be somewhere on the list
I strongly recommend those who made this list to watch the 1985 movie “Fast Forward”!!!
This is the greatest damn video ever. Can't stop watching it. I never knew she could move like that. Now I know why so many men had crushes on her.
