- Bay Area Prabasi celebrates its 50th year in 2023, with a cadence of several cultural, philanthropic and educational programs, to celebrate Bengali history, culture, literature and arts. The grand kickoff will be a two-day event held on April 29th and 30th in the SF Bay Area.
Over these two days, we are arranging a series of programs to honor two legends of Bengal - Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray for their invaluable contribution to our art and culture. They are cultural icons who have put Bengali culture on the global map and have become an integral part of the Bengali cultural identity. Their works have stood the test of time and continue to be relevant today, inspiring new generations of artists and cultural enthusiasts. Celebrating them is a way of honoring Bengal’s rich heritage and ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire generations to come.
Goals
Celebrate the original members and founders whose vision led to the creation of this awesome diaspora organization.
Provide a platform for current and potential members to come together and connect with their cultural roots, to celebrate the bond that ties us together - our language and culture.
Establish BAPI as THE eminent Bengali community organization of the Bay Area by launching impactful initiatives in philanthropy and community development.
Foster a sense of community and identity among the current and next generation of Bengalis and inspire them to come together to build the Prabasi of the next 50 years.

It is not stylish to be uncomfortable in your mother tongue. I am a Tamilian married to Bengali.
Now I speak Bengali most of the time but I am still very comfortable in my mother tongue.
বাংলায় কথা সবাই বলতে পারেন দুর্ভাগ্য কেউই সেভাবে বল্লেন না। অথচ বলা হয় এনারাই নাকি বাংলার "রোল মডেল"। দারুন ভালো লাগল।

অসহ্য শর্মীলা ঠাকুর, সারাক্ষণ ভাঙা ভাঙা ইংরেজি বলে গেলেন। ওনার ভাবটা এরকম যেন তিনি ছাড়া কোন বাঙালি ইংরেজি বলতে পারেন না।তাও যদি সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলি বা অন্য কারো মতো ফ্লুয়েন্ট ইংরেজি বলতেন। ভীষন বোদ্ধা বোদ্ধা ভাব।সত্যজিৎ রায়ের মানস কন্যা ছিলেন বলেই পার পেয়ে গেলেন।তার চেয়ে ভালো অভিনেত্রী বাংলা বা হিন্দি তে অনেকেই আছেন। আসলে উনি খুব লাকি ভদ্রমহিলা।
অর্ধেক ইংরাজী , অর্ধেক বাংলা কথা না বলে যদি পুরো মাতৃভাষা (বাংলাভাষা) কথা বলা হতো তাহলে ক্ষতি কি হত ? সিনেমা সব , পরিচালক বাঙালি গর্ব বোধ করি। আমি বাঙালি , বাংলাভাষা আমার মাতৃভাষা আমার অহংকার। আপনারা আমার কাছে সম্মানিত।

It would help if there were sub titles in English/Hindi for addressing the genuine curiosity of a wider audience.Else Ray remains, unfortunately shackled within the confines of a Bengali audience.

Jara opore tolen oderkei bikrito korte abohoman e Mamata Sankar ai pathetic role korechilen. Aar enakei daaka holo! Same thing goes for Rituparno also- he only made this film. Ki dorkar chilo akta bikhyato personality ke bikrito korar?
