I feel like Boros has become a top 3 “fun” in recent years. They’ve focused so much on fixing Boros and really done well at giving it a decent range of options. I’d love to see Azorius and dimir get some similar focus. Both of them often feel so heavily focused on their respective core mechanics (“fun police/flying” and “mill/ninjas” respectively) that it’s hard to find an interesting way to build them.
Thing i like about the game is the roleplaying aspect. Dimir lets me explore the evil scientist/cultist with commanders like Phenax and Tezzeret. Milling people into insanity, surounding yourself with artificial servants, scheeming to cast huge spells and foil plans at instant speed.
I loved this video! It’s such a fresh, refreshing video. Loved that there were “more fun” and “least fun” categories. I’d kill for a 3 color video similar to this.
Dimir’s mechanical identity is generally a bunch of shit black could already do either with no twist or a slightly blue caveat to the effect. It’s generally blacks hand disruption, blues deck manipulation, and sometimes graveyard interaction usually involving exiling shit from your yard to allow the card doing it to do something in relation to the card exiled. I know that last one sounds pretty run of the mill but it was relatively novel when dimir was conceived.
Here is the thing, I do believe Selesnya is the least fun color combination, but i can't stop playing it. Selesnya is very permanent-dependent, usually plays at sorcery speed, and is extremely held back by it's lack of card draw, but there's just something about a board full of tokens that just tickles my brain. It's what it should have been, honestly all they did is parrot what each color is designed to do by WOTC. These colors do these things, it's like that by design. It is interesting that you stated in the video a few times that red as a color is not great… or I believe you even said weak… and I have always sorta thought the same thing, but of your top 4 guilds , 3 of them have red! I also was recently taking inventory of my decks as I’m up To 15, and when I think of the colors I’m not a huge fan of red, but I do have a lot of decks that have red in them! So I guess it’s a great support color?
I've never thought about my opinions on the guilds, but I tend towards 3 color commanders and Sultai is the one where I can't find a single commander that sounds interesting to me. And Dimir + Simic being the bottom two picks here certainly validates that for me
I'm glad my two most favorite guilds are the most fun. I always like playing with my Golgari and Rakdos decks due to all the crazy things you can perform on the dot.
Really solid rankings. My fav deck I own is Gruul with Agatha of the Vile Cauldron it’s so much fun. Building both Laughing Jasper Flint and Vraska the Silencer right now and those will be my first decks in those guilds and I love stealing stuff so I’m excited. Agreed about Stella Lee, bought the precon and upgraded it and will be tearing it apart lol
Dimir is one of my favorite. Playing against it is fun, playing with it is fun. Least favorite is Boros then probably Gruul. I've built several Dimir commanders in the past and all of them played quite differently. Dralnu, Phenax and Scarab God are all decks I've owned at one point I have a deep fondness for. Big Butts on Phenax was noval, Dralnu was so risky to play but the pay off was huge. He was the gambler's commander because it could really blow up in your face. Scarab God let you steal and reanimate. I ended up using the Eldrazi Processors to get multiple copies of my opponent's best creatures. For me Dimir, Golgari and Izzet are my favorites with Simic being 4th. Simic has been getting a bad rap as of late but honestly, it has some really cool commanders like Experiment Kraj or Prime Speaker Vannifar. Yeah, Vannifar usually plays the same but I really like birthing pod. I think its a really fun strategy. Azorious I can't stand playing against. Even the "Fair" Azorious decks are miserable to play against. "Oh you just spent 10 minutes resolving blink triggers, are we dead? No, there's a chance we could get out of this? What's the odds, can we just move on to the next game?" Playing with Azorious is fun.
Before it starts I know it’s rakdos but I’d argue the subset of azorius that is oops all artifacts is also a fun experience for all. Not countering, not controlling. Just doing a lot and playing with toys until suddenly you’re the threat with 300+ power on the field
I love drafting Dimir but struggle with it in EDH. I ran Sygg for years as the head of multiple decks (rogues, steal stuff, control, & good stuff). None had a real identity that fit Sygg, though; he was just a value engine (before several better were printed). Dimir control/steal was my go to at LGS random games as it was excellent as a power neutral deck and could handle just about anything that was not pure enchantress (pre Sythis). Basically, it scaled with the table better than most decks. Recently, I have been running Mirko surveil at 25 USD budget, and it has been a blast.
My pick for most fun Boros commander would be Hofri. A boros aristocrat deck is super interesting, plus you can build it as a steal your opponents creatures deck or even a spirit deck. Plus also chaining an imperial recruiter into a reckless fireweaver and two dockside’s is neat :)
I play my Imoti + Keruga deck. End of turn flash in my hullbreaker horror. Untap and Cast Apex Devastator. I challenge you to find ANYTHING in magic that's more fun than that :D
My favorite deck is my mirko deck. Instead of surveil, I focus on having powerful 0 cost clones from my graveyard, reanimating powerful black and blue creatures and spamming clones of them. With mill, counter spells, recursion, and leveraging other peoples graveyards against them. Cloning an astral dragon or archfiend of despair for free feels really good.
Been into Magic for a few months, and watching a LOT. Of different channels. This video just cemented your channel as my favorite. I fucking LOVE Golgari. I only have 2 commander decks so far. But both are Golgari. Graveyard play is just the most fun in any card game ive played. Look forward to more videos guys! One question! Ive kind of become the focus of my pod to kill first. Im running a Meren deck, basically constantly forcing everyone to sacrifice their board til a draw into a win con (usually an infinite combo) My pod is fairly competitive, what are some tips you have for winning in a reanimate deck without resorting to infinites (mikaues/triskelion) kind of stuff. Or what are some good Golgari decks that dont seem OP out of the gate but can sneak wins? Thanks guys!
So glad you’re enjoying the channel! We love Golgari here! I play it for graveyard value and Mia loves it for having ramp and removal. I think the best way to clinch wins without infinites is to go for one-shot KOs with things like Living Death or Rise of the Dark Realms grabbing everything you’ve milled over all at once, then sacrificing everything to get death triggers. That usually does the trick for us
I really like my Dimir Anowon deck. It's rogue tribal, basically ignoring the mill and focusing on dealing combat to player triggers. Evasive, turn creatures sideways strat.
Yenna, Redtooth Regent is my favorite current commander. The exponential potential with copies of doubling season or anointed procession is ridiculous. Even just one copy made of Three Blind Mice early game just keeps snowballing.
I run a Dimir Ramses, Assassin Lord deck. It poisons, proliferates, Voltrons and has counter spells. It's fun because I have to take out a player while the table tries to stop me.
Where is the Dimir love? 🪬 I’ve built 3 pure dimir decks and all the three color dimir based pairings. All of them vastly different from the other and all many babies.
Me as an ugly fellas and self-milling enjoyer just came in to see where my favorite guild was placed and was really amazed to see that it is on 1st! In my playgroup I'm the only one ho likes golgari at all and I'm called the "grave guy" all the time, my fave commanders are Hapatra and Mycotyrant at the moment
I play Inniaz as my Azorius. Flying tribal, sure, but passing stuff around like a yankee swap when I swing can make things very interesting. Also I rock Niv Parun with zero infinites, as more of a controlled burn.
Dimir is a weird way to say Boros, my favorite is probably Simic but its def fitting where yall ranked it, and boros is my least favorite by a landslide, im hoping ditching equipments for a sunforge Firesong and Sunspeaker deck can change my mind.
My List is 1. Orzhov (I love lifegain and drain, aristocrats, reanimate, pay life, Angels, Vampires, access to best removals, that pair of yin and yang in a game feels cool) 2. Rakdos (I like shooting and pinging, sacrificing, reanimate, treasures, its like hell for my opponents, punishing and indirect play style) 3. Gruul (Big stuff to cheat out, ramp, Dragons and trampling biggies) 4. Simic (Landfall, Ramp and copy stuff is super powerful) 5. Golgari (Tokens, reanimate, landfall, destructive stuff, love that swampy bad ass vibe, but I prefere to have access to Simic, so to look for a sultai commander) 6. Selesnya (I like Tokens, Enchantments and Lifegain, but most commanders feel boring) 7. Izzet (don‘t like Spellslinger, but Artifacts. Prefere a third color to combine with izzet) 8. Boros (I like Voltron, but 90% of the deck always stays the same, no matter whats your boros commander, so its a little boring) 9. Dimir (These decks are hard to master and keep up on the table, I only play my lotr wraiths deck and I have a hard time to draw enough cards or to ramp) 10. Azorius (I find no interesting commander in these colors, combines with red is perfect for artifacts, but azorius alone seems super uninteresting)
Would an XXR spell that reads "Destroy x target lands. If a non basic land is destroyed this way search for a basic" - be enough to disciplin landfall decks?
Im pleased that Azorius isnt the worst. I got my start in Azorius... with the First Flight Commander precon. Bird aggro is the red headed stepchild of Azorius but I really enjoy it, and Bloomburrow has thrown me so many new toys. Kastel! Gev is also far and away my favorite new toy in Rakdos, I love my turn two commander drops and Rakdos Charm against a infinite loop token player is the funniest turn 3 knock out Ive ever perpetrated in my life.
I've actually struggled a lot with trying to "figure out" Rakdos in EDH. I got introduced to commander about 6 months ago but despite a lot of searching I haven't been able to figure out what Rakdos's niche is. In kitchen table 1v1 it accels at burning and destroying everything in its path but when you have 3 opponents it's not able to scale that level of removal wide enough to work the same way, and while it seems to do ok in Aristocrat strategies Orzhov and Golgari seem to do it better. I feel like I must be missing something but I just haven't been able to figure out what it is.
Simic player at heart since I love value and big spells, but ive recently been on that Golgari Mindset. Im looking at some commanders and strategies and Golgari decks look really fun. Grismold the dreadsower looks really fun in a pseudo-group hug deck with miasma effects.
I absolutely love dimir, I love deck/graveyard manipulation, theft which dimir excells at. Dimir isn't this is the X colour like rakdos, but rather a group of cards that invoke a feeling. Saddly once you get to higher power decks dimir decks have a bunch of super powerful staples which will make them similar to each other.
"Loss of life like OG Rakdos" Hellbent would like a word I kind of hate what they did to Simic. Yeah, "good stuff" is fun for a few games, but Graft synergies are more interesting. The original guildmage is actually pretty cool Honestly, they should have put squirrels in Simic, as a callback to when squirrel opposition decks were a thing in standard. Chatterfang they just became saprolings but with a parallel lives, sac outlet, and removal in the command zone.
I love my Arixmethes deck! Krakens and Leviathans for the win! 😊 My least favorite are pretty much anything paired with White. (Orzhov is probably the best one.)
There are some other ways to play Selesnya. I actually have 2 Selesnya decks, one is Arahbo cats (just cats) and the other is Drizzt Do'Urden +1 counters. First I built because I'm a cat person and just wanted a cat deck and Arahbo is THE cat commander imo, and Drizzt just for flavour. He's in strange colours to be honest so had to work with what we had :D
Aesi was my first commander and still is in one of my active decks. Beezy has a very fair assessment of him, from someone who went so hard into Aesi that I have a Red Gyrados metal proxy of him. But I also am a victim of the advice they give which is bully the simic player early. My wife hates Scute Swarm with a burning passion that even if I played it on turn 2, and no lands in hand, she would kill it. My other buddies in the pod actually know my combo pieces and actively work to prevent me from getting them.
i have one boros deck. its general Ferrous Rokiric. just cheap boros spell/hybrid to get them 4/4s out. the point you made about if the commander isn't out it just does nothing is spot on with it though.
Heck yeah, Golgari bb! Goth Girl farming for the win! I've been building a Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest as a tokens, +1/+1 Death's Presence style deck. Make big creatures, kill them into smaller creatures to kill them into bigger creatures 💀
Golgari is my favorite. My very first commander deck was Sarulf, Realm Eater. I still play it. Shelob and Chatterfang are my other favorite commanders. I know... squirrels. But I don't care, it's so satisfying to make a zillion rodents. Orzav is my next favorite. I love the Ixalan vampire deck and I recently made a Ratabraga (probably spelled that wrong) legendary tribal deck. It's so fun to make zombie tokens and then bring them back.
I love simic my favorite color pair. In commander. Draw cards, play lands. You do stuff. All the time. Interaction. Etc. also the point of view for the nitpickers is different from mine. I like doing things. Spinning wheels and always doing something. I love winning. It ain’t simic but one my my favorite commander is the elmimster. The constant scry and being on blue and white for interaction. Similar stories for simic.

20:48 one of my favorite commanders, such a fun deck that can run so many different cards. Can be really jank or really good, I love it
The Boros Legion understands your current positioning, but expects you to do better in the future.
My ranking before I watch the video, prove me wrong 😁:
10 (least fun): Boros
9: Azorius
8: Gruul
7: Rakdos
6: Selesnya
5: Orzhov
4: Golgari
3: Izzet
2: Dimir
1 (most fun): Simic
Rakdos being #7 is wild. Their parties are to die for
yeah swap rakdos and simic's places and i agree
How the hell is azorioz, aka the fun police above selesnya?
Im running a Meren deck, basically constantly forcing everyone to sacrifice their board til a draw into a win con (usually an infinite combo)
My pod is fairly competitive, what are some tips you have for winning in a reanimate deck without resorting to infinites (mikaues/triskelion) kind of stuff.
It's fun because I have to take out a player while the table tries to stop me.
golgari is absolutely the swiss army knife guild. it. can. do. everything.
ramp. draw. kill anything. recover. engines. synergies. game enders.
Where is the Dimir love? 🪬
I’ve built 3 pure dimir decks and all the three color dimir based pairings.
All of them vastly different from the other and all many babies.
“Red is weak” *laughs in zada*
For green/white, I have a Siona deck that loves creating humans with my auras and banging out damage across the whole board
Would you guys do the 3 color combos
Me as an ugly fellas and self-milling enjoyer just came in to see where my favorite guild was placed and was really amazed to see that it is on 1st! In my playgroup I'm the only one ho likes golgari at all and I'm called the "grave guy" all the time, my fave commanders are Hapatra and Mycotyrant at the moment
i feel like araumi is actually a really cool and unique-ish dimir commander.
I play Inniaz as my Azorius. Flying tribal, sure, but passing stuff around like a yankee swap when I swing can make things very interesting.
Also I rock Niv Parun with zero infinites, as more of a controlled burn.
who would ever skip the sponsor shoutouts? GOOD SLEEVES
This list amuses me because my two favorite guilds are Dimir and Golgari, the bookends. :)
Dimir is a weird way to say Boros, my favorite is probably Simic but its def fitting where yall ranked it, and boros is my least favorite by a landslide, im hoping ditching equipments for a sunforge Firesong and Sunspeaker deck can change my mind.
My List is
1. Orzhov (I love lifegain and drain, aristocrats, reanimate, pay life, Angels, Vampires, access to best removals, that pair of yin and yang in a game feels cool)
2. Rakdos (I like shooting and pinging, sacrificing, reanimate, treasures, its like hell for my opponents, punishing and indirect play style)
3. Gruul (Big stuff to cheat out, ramp, Dragons and trampling biggies)
4. Simic (Landfall, Ramp and copy stuff is super powerful)
5. Golgari (Tokens, reanimate, landfall, destructive stuff, love that swampy bad ass vibe, but I prefere to have access to Simic, so to look for a sultai commander)
6. Selesnya (I like Tokens, Enchantments and Lifegain, but most commanders feel boring)
7. Izzet (don‘t like Spellslinger, but Artifacts. Prefere a third color to combine with izzet)
8. Boros (I like Voltron, but 90% of the deck always stays the same, no matter whats your boros commander, so its a little boring)
9. Dimir (These decks are hard to master and keep up on the table, I only play my lotr wraiths deck and I have a hard time to draw enough cards or to ramp)
I'm happy seeing Strixhaven commanders getting so much love. It's a great setting
Gruul, Rakdos. The only guilds out there.
I 100% thought this was gonna be a lore video of the Ravnica guilds in which case its like the reverse of this list lol
Osgir, the Reconstructor is probably my favorite commander I have outside of my Liesa
What are your thoughts on ramses and assassin tribal dimir decks? (Pre assassin's creed cards release)
"Loss of life like OG Rakdos"
Hellbent would like a word
I kind of hate what they did to Simic. Yeah, "good stuff" is fun for a few games, but Graft synergies are more interesting. The original guildmage is actually pretty cool
Honestly, they should have put squirrels in Simic, as a callback to when squirrel opposition decks were a thing in standard. Chatterfang they just became saprolings but with a parallel lives, sac outlet, and removal in the command zone.
Araumi, the Grave Tide, self mill encore, I love that deck. That's my bid for dimir.
When i play dimir i like to think of a card like Evil Twin. Impersonate/steal other things and kill off/prevent problems.
I love my Arixmethes deck! Krakens and Leviathans for the win! 😊 My least favorite are pretty much anything paired with White. (Orzhov is probably the best one.)
Orzhov is my favorite by a country mile. Rakdos is my number two, though
I love my Bruna voltron deck, lots of casting her at instant speed and haste enablers,
I've always said rakdos is the only unique guild. Imo there's no contest. Rakdos #1
I wanted to ask, I imagine Sarulf gets a lot of hate ?

I love simic my favorite color pair. In commander. Draw cards, play lands. You do stuff. All the time. Interaction. Etc. also the point of view for the nitpickers is different from mine. I like doing things. Spinning wheels and always doing something. I love winning. It ain’t simic but one my my favorite commander is the elmimster. The constant scry and being on blue and white for interaction. Similar stories for simic.
