  • I do apologize for not uploading recently. I've been very busy with my new job and other stuff but I'm back and should be uploading more regularly now. More content is coming so hang tight!
Anyway with Sears announcing to close about 60 or so Sears and Kmart locations, included in the chopping block included the Quad Cities' last corporate-owned Sears store in NorthPark Mall in Davenport. While in Moline, SouthPark Mall's Sears store closed its doors in 2011 and that space is now mostly occupied by Dick's Sporting Goods. When NorthPark's Sears store closes in September, the last store in the Quad Cities to be owned by Sears will be the Kmart in Moline, IL, and I doubt that store has much longer left before it gets shuttered.
NorthPark Mall also has another anchor closing its doors as well. Younkers, which is owned by Bon-Ton, is currently in the process of shutting down all its stores, including NorthPark's and the one in Moline's SouthPark Mall, which means SouthPark will have one empty anchor. Once Sears closes for good, NorthPark will have two empty anchors. Both malls will still have Dillard's, JCPenny (with NorthPark's Penny's getting new escalators), and Davenport-based Von Maur. SouthPark will still be anchored by Dick's, but will have a new "partial anchor" in a new Ashley Furniture store opening up later this year. NorthPark is also partially anchored by Barnes & Noble, but will be the home of Iowa's first H&M store later this year.
2018 has been a sad year for retail, with Bon-Ton and its subsidiaries, and Toys R Us closing all of their stores. I just sometimes wonder...who's next?
