    You’re doing really well mate. You have an awareness of the road conditions and where the grip (or lack of) may be. You’ve got road sense. You just need some saddle time to build machine sympathy up. Keep your mirror & shoulder checks up. They aren’t just for Christmas.

      Thank you Darren. Saddle time is badly required, I'll have much more time in the new year for plenty of that 👍

     @TwoWheelsTommy There's a bunch of tips I've picked up, I did my CBT about the same time as you did and on odd occassion find myself in 3rd as I've had to stop abit more rapidly then I'd intended. Not that you did but if that happens to you where you've stopped and not come down through all the gears, you can exercise the clutch to get it to swap down through, nudge down a gear, let clutch out to bite point and it will normally change, pull back in, nudge down and repeat and it'll get you where you need to be. If you stall and you're in first or N already, just pull clutch and hit the starter, you don't need to go near the key :) Good luck out there from someone on the same path as you!

      Hey, some good tips there, thanks. I'll have to practice stalling in a car park somewhere and try that out, Don't ask me what was going on with the key thing, I think it stems from owning old VW campers, they cut out constantly when you least want them to and your first reaction is to grab the key to get it going again. I've driven them for years so it will take sometime to lose that habbit 🤣 Thanks for watching, and good luck with your own journey 😀

    Another benefit of shopping locally is you can also ask to sit on some of the bikes! It's great to familiarize yourself with the big ones early, it helps build confidence especially when you plan to take the mods.
    Also unlucky on that stall man. As an expert staller, I got another tip. If it happens again, don't bother with the key. Just hold the clutch in and hit ignition.

    • @TwoWheelsTommy

      That had some lovely machines in there, I might have to try some next time - and leave my wallet at home 😁 I was annoyedwith myself when I stalled it, you can see me reaching for the key/started/key/starter/key/starter as my brain kept changing it's mind as to the best way to get it going again! What a wally 🤣

    Hey up pal, it's not a problem Stalling it everyone has done it , your doing great buddy. If you stall it never mind with key or owt like that, just pull clutch in press start button and away you go in the gear you stalled generally 1st, look forwards to more videos, and can I say on a positive I like how you talk your way through your ride eg stay there , ops 30 here, junction here with lorries, gravel here with rain etc , keep going pal your doing well .

    yer doing just fine lad 👍🏼…. Here is a wee tip for a brake lock …. the pin doesn’t need to go through the round holes in the disc brake , it can go through the elongated spaces just inside the holes ….. my cousin made this tiny wee error a couple of years ago …. he said to me ‘ the fkn pin is too big for the holes ‘ I said well lock it into the the holes just below , that are about the size of a five pence piece ….. sorry for blabbing on there but you will get what i mean when u have a look ….. keep safe lad 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @TwoWheelsTommy
      @TwoWheelsTommy  10 місяців тому

      Thank you, I think there has been an improvement apart from those little mistakes. I tried every which way possible but the pin was just too big for ANY hole on the disc as it is so small. I've eaten bigger biscuits 🤣 It was a cool lock though, really beefy - I'll get another when I can get a big bike👍

    Keep going mate. We all stall occasionally, even experienced riders, and car drivers. Been riding/driving for 35+ years and stalled my car backing onto the drive the other day, it happens. Just don't panic, restart the engine and carry on. 8-) The more you ride, the more practice you will get and the easier and more natural it will all feel. I learnt to drive/ride in the madness that is London, if you can ride/drive there then you can anywhere, Lol....

    • @TwoWheelsTommy
      @TwoWheelsTommy  10 місяців тому

      @pjgtech Wise words! No one is immune. I hear what you are saying regarding driving in London. When I passed my driving test in 1999 I was living in Basingstoke. The day I passed my test my friend and I jumped in my 1970's VW camper (Cool first car!) and we headed into central london to go to a night club. That bloomin thing stalled every time you let the revs drop too low so that was quite the experience driving in central london on my first car solo. Fair to say, nothing phases me in the car at all after that experience 🤣

  • @thepodbaydoorshal
    @thepodbaydoorshal 10 місяців тому +1

    I think my earlier comment disappeared! Anyway, it’s good to see you riding all year round - practice makes perfect and it’s good to get that winter riding experience to make you a better all round rider. If you feel the chills I do recommend some undergarment thermals, and some heated gloves. Merlin Thinsulates are pretty good, if your budget can stretch. They are low profile so you won’t lose too much feel of the controls. You might need to get some extra batteries for longer rides. Also recommend watching Moto Control for continuing to improve your riding skills. In my opinion it’s the most thorough UA-cam channel on that topic.
    Edit: just a comment on the stalling… I had a CBF125 and there’s barely any torque so stalling is not uncommon even for a more experienced rider. Try this - pull in the clutch and balance the throttle at around 3,000rpm. Listen to the sound and try to memorise the pitch of the biting point as you slowly let out the clutch. Use that as your marker and practice it before each ride. It will become second nature once you do it more. When you get on a bigger bike with more torque to get the bike moving, the stalling will mostly disappear.

    • @TwoWheelsTommy
      @TwoWheelsTommy  10 місяців тому +1

      Hey, I hear you - i'd be riding it even more if I wasn't so busy with work. I'll be quieter in the new year so the miles will rack up then. Thanks for the thermals tip, I had a 1 piece thermal body suit on under my gear and considering it was justa cheap one I bought years ago it did do a remarkable job of keeping me warm in those chilly conditions. That's a good tip about the biting point. I found it extra frustrating as stalling hasn't been an issue for me previously, even on my actual CBT. I'll get the hang of it, and I'll try out your method too. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @lilynorthover8378
      @lilynorthover8378 10 місяців тому +1

      That's exactly how our instructor taught us to do it. All bikes are different and 125cc definitely find it harder to pull away without stalling. 3000 rpm is the sweet spot.

    • @themotorider1
      @themotorider1 10 місяців тому +1

      I had a 1941 WLA chop with a homemade jockey shift back the late 70's. Not much fun in city traffic. You had to make sure your right foot went down when you stopped or you'd be in the shit. I remember the clutch cable snapped in a car park, I lost my balance and was dragged across the car park until I hit a wall on the far side. Didn't do my extended springer forks a lot of good ( or me! 😂). So a stall at a roundabout isn't a big deal in the embarrassment stakes!

    • @TwoWheelsTommy

      @themotorider1 That does make me feel a little better 😁

    • @twinpotracer
      @twinpotracer 10 місяців тому +1

      @@themotorider1 that's why I fitted an additional hand clutch. I engage the foot clutch to pull into first gear, then engage the hand clutch before pulling away. Sacrilege on a classic like that but functional for modern day use. It has so much torque that you can pull away in top gear no problem. Combine that with my British bikes that have the gear change of the other side, my shed is a mishmash of unorthodox gear boxes 😂

    Hi mate, been following your journey, im only a couple mins in so non related, but just wanted to vent. I dropped my new bike on friday. While simply getting on it! Stand down and everything, turns out getting on from a camber rolling toward your side stand is a no no. The thing pivoted on the stand with me on it and just sent me straight to the ground, snapped my clutch lever but luckily my crash bungs saved the fairings! So one tip ive learnt the hard way for you. ALWAYS get on your bike on a level and flat surface. Enjoying the vids mate

      Hey Simon, that is a great tip. I actually pivot the bike around in my driveway on the kickstand so I have a good understanding of it's limitations tilt-wise, but I guess in your situation it started going wrong and gathered pace quicker than you could react. Sorry to head your bike got damaged, hopefully an easy fix. I bet you won't do it again! Thanks for watching 😀

      Oh snap. 2nd ride out post CBT. Went to Halfords to get a couple of bungee cords. Parked up and thought it was fine. Side stand down, but as I stepped off the bike it moved off the stand. Stupid, stupid as I didn’t keep a hand on the break. Slight downhill, just enough to move me off the stand. Went down, but thankfully only bent the clutch lever. Slight scratch on the bar end and a paint chip on the mirror, but otherwise no more damage. Felt a right berk, but lesson learnt!

    Bought a brand new MT125 after passing my CBT and, about about 25 days and a whopping 160 miles later, I have the buyers remorse..... Because this week I passed my DAS Mod 1 and 2 tests. Now I've got a month old bike I don't want anymore. lol. I guess I'm going shopping this week. I'll still be taking it easy though, whatever bike I pick, because obviously I'm still VERY new so every journey is a huge learning curve and I find myself questioning so many of the same things you do. I think hearing you vocalise your thought process as you go along is one of the things I like about your channel. It's very open and honest. Nice work and keep it up. (PS... For not much more than the most local used one I could have bought a brand new one but I would have had to wait for it. As you can see I plumped for a cheaper used bike, I should be able to sell it for pretty much what I paid for it when time comes to sell. Luckily you bought a popular learner bike so a new owner will be along quick enough. Good work passing your full licence, what bike are you eyeing up? Thanks for watching 😀

    Try going on a roundabout going from first into second and end up in neutral. I'm a natural at it now Ha Ha ! Main thing is, don't panic. People will wait if you stall. You are so much better on the bike, massive improvement.

    When stopping in traffic I am more inclined to go either slightly to the right or the left of the car in front in the case of a rear ender you are not going to get pushed into the car in front, it also gives you an escape route if you see someone coming up behind you to fast.

    Another lovely ride Tommy. I've only got 2 rides in so far, between chores, holidays and weather, I just haven't gotten out. That should change this week, I start working at the new location and will begin commuting on Tuesday. I'm still waiting for the replacement camera that broke on my first ride. On the roads, yours look fantastic those seam like they would be such a joy to ride, the gentle curves and scenic views were nice. Here the roads are long and straight or crazy curvy with potholes or mud in the curves. Roundabouts are rare here in Alabama, they are more common in the north east US but not down here. As for the stalling, it happens just chalk it up to experience gained and You'll handle it better next time. Yes, you should go through that roundabout again prove to yourself you can do it because you can. If you don't eventually you will start to fear it and just make it worse. Thanks for the share and Stay safe!

    you should wear your motorcycle trousers at all times, jeans just don't offer the same protection. I'd highly recommend going for a Keis heated jacket - plenty around second hand. Your riding standard is generally good, good awareness and critiquing yourself. (but sort those scruffy rusty mirrors!!). You could have filtered through the traffic blocking the yellow box. You were fine on the roundabout. sometimes shit happens

    • @TwoWheelsTommy
      @TwoWheelsTommy  10 місяців тому +1

      I know, I should wear the trousers. It is always bloomin freezing at work so I wear loads of layers as it is, I've not experienced a cold upper body yet but the idea of a heated jacket is appealing so I'll look into them! Those mirrors are awful, but with current workload with my business, if it's a toss up between sorting out the mirrors or getting a ride in - the mirrors can wait until after the xmas work rush 🤣

  • @SlipperyJack60
    @SlipperyJack60 10 місяців тому +1

    'That was disastrous ...' Nah, you stalled it. Nothing more. You re-started it, right? People behind getting uptight? They should have got out of bed earlier, shouldn't they. Hands up everyone who hasn't stalled it at some point? I've stalled it so many times that I can stall it whilst still moving, AND re-start it before the wheels stop moving!
    It all looked pretty calm and composed to me. The only thing that I would say is at the roundabout you moved forward when that van moved across in front of you, leaving you to almost stop in the hatched area. In normal life, another yeah, whatever. However, on your test the examiner would get shitty about that. But hey, you're learning. This is what it's all about. Keep enjoying it.

    • @TwoWheelsTommy
      @TwoWheelsTommy  10 місяців тому

      You are right, I was just annoyed with myself as I'd managed not to stall up until that point! Well spotted, I should have waited before that hatched area but I think I managed to crawl and not actually stop in it. I'd have to watch it back! Thanks for watching 👍

    We have all stall it mate no need to feel embarrassed, the worst that happened me , was also on a roundabout, it wasn't actually a stall I had a Honda VFR 800 at the time it had an immobilizer on it anti theft it was standard that the with bike, and it decided to cut out the engine for no reason, and pulled in the clutch pressed the starter it fired up straight away which was lucky because I had a cement tanker right behind . Next day the bike started no problem leaving my house and got me to where I was going, but when I went to start it on the return journey again this immobilizer decided to cut in and no matter what I did, it wouldn't start even on a push. My mechanic took it off the bike and I never had a problem with the bike again
