I had 500000 miles on my 6.5 before the head gaskets blew. Motor had a hard life before i bought it so i just swapped a motor out. Drive the truck every day still.
On my 93 6.5, I had a coolant leak that wouldn't show during pressure check. Finally got it up on hoist and found my aluminum rad has a leak at the neck above the primary seal area but below the top cap seal. Am installing a catch can, complete ac system, new dampner and pulley frt main seal. Will be doing the remote oil and fuel filter relocation next. Keep up the information flow, as my experience has been in large construction equipment so this retirement project is new area. Thanks
I really appreciate your honest and enjoyable stories about the 6.5 Jesse. We have a 1996 C1500 Suburban 6.5 with over 250,000 miles, running just great. Doing the suggested improvements/modifications and a strictly followed maintenance schedule has given us many trouble-free miles on long distance trips. The truck stays in dry storage over the winter months. Never mind the keyboard warriors, let them make videos if they know so much. I am following your stories and builds!
@@JessePelkey1 you are welcome Jesse and looking forward to more adventures. If you look at my vid Jacob's 1972 Buick Skylark Convertible, you will see a bit of our Suburban 6.5! Merry Christmas!
I think alot of it is from people who had them in service trucks on the job and improper pmd diagnosis saying it was a injection pump. my 6.4 powerstroke real bad rep too but if you take care of it its not a bad engine 6.0 powerstroke same way bad rep but take care of it and its fine people are too used to the 12v cummins being idiot proof
I literally (within the last 2 weeks) just finished doing headgaskets on my 6.5. Mine was only the headgasket, though the passenger head had the infamous crack between the valves on cyl 2. The machine shop tested it, and said it wasn't cracked all the way through, but they installed the sleeves that prevents there from being an issue. There was definitely coolant in the oil from the head gasket, but it at most had 15 minutes of run time with the blown gasket, so it seems fine now after doing the head gaskets.
Also, I didn't do head studs on mine, because mine is naturally aspirated (no turbo / no boost), and the head studs were more than $200 more than Fel-pro bolts were (plus very long lead times / everything is out of stock). I think my issue was with not changing the coolant in a very long time. Lesson learned, replace that coolant on the recommended schedule - it's a LOT less work and expense than doing head gaskets! Also if you're doing head gaskets over and over again, look at using the Apex gaskets or Victor Reinz gaskets that have a wider fire ring than the stock fel-pro gaskets. I know, fel-pro is the defacto standard gasket and praised as being "the best", but when the Apex or Reinz gaskets have a fire ring that's more than double the width of the tiny fire ring on the fel-pros, you have to ask yourself if fel-pro is really the best choice for these engines.
Always great 6.5 content. Sorry about the accident with truck that you put a lot of time and work into, only for someone to total it out. But what's a good pmd and resistors to buy for a 94 suburban k2500 6.5? Wanted to know what you think about ordering one of of Amazon as well.
Thanks man I appreciate it hopefully one day she'll be back on the road, stock PMD resistor is a number five and if you aren't expecting to push the truck or need the access fuel I would just stick with that or number six
506 blocks, 97 and up, liked to crack around the piston cooling jets. Just thought I’d throw that out there in case someone is fighting that. Good video buddy. Try a h1c/h1e hybrid turbo. I loved that setup. H1c hot side with h1e cold side and wheel.
No sir, I'll go with a thicker gasket once I take the heads to the machine shop and see haw far they off from factory they are and go from there, then put head studs in on reassembly
Hi, I have 94 6.5 that has delayed throttle when warmed up, builds 14lbs. of boost when it does wind up, then goes to erratic idle when it comes back down.
how due u flush ur tranny reend and transfer cases changing fluids i have 330,000 on my truck for it having so many miles screams i need to due this im little not sure the proper way to due this and due u flush or just change

That's impressive

I like all of your videos, they seem to help me out with an awful lot because I’m usually hands-on and not Booksmart

Love the 6.5 videos. Learn more with every video. I really love the 6.5 engines. They get a bad wrap.

Loved my 6.5 for the 10 years i had it. Replaced it with a 12v cummins and turned my suburban into a real truck

Might want to look into quadstar tuning they seem to be the 6.5 guys these days

Always excited when you post a new 6.5 video. What $120 head studs do you use? I was saving up for ARP
$120 more than buying head bolts, so the cost of head bolts plus $120. Arp is what I always use
Dam brother, I'm working on head gasket now brother

Good to know. guess i'm lucky as my 94 has a 6.2 block from the military with 6.5 stuff bolted on
Any ideas on how to remove a broken starter bolt? I have tried to use a bolt extractor but it is not working.
Could either welding up onto the broken part of the bolt, or gently drill out the bolt completely and retap it using helicoil.
Are you going to install a thicker head gasket set to lower compression a bit?
No sir, I'll go with a thicker gasket once I take the heads to the machine shop and see haw far they off from factory they are and go from there, then put head studs in on reassembly

You checked into your fuel system? might be starving for fuel on just my guess
What's your opinion on o ringing the decks..
I think in stocks format, it's not really necessary, hopping them up for more hp, sure go for it.
Do you have any videos of turning up a DB2 Injection pump?
No at this time
do u have any info on starter mount fix?
