      I believe it's not possible due to the fact that Asahi Linux is installed as a seperate os image / container and your original macos installation by default is encrypted and also inside it's own container. Think of it as if in one box you have macos and your data, and in 2nd box you have asahi linux and it's data.

    That black menu bar is really annoying on Macs, I have the same issue with running stock Ubuntu on an LED Cinema display : the black menu bar blends into the deep black screen frame making the top edge look taller. It doesn't look good. On my stock Ubuntu I changed the menu bar to dark gray to fix that.

    Instead of its own distribution what I want to see is something that lets me seamlessly run any distribution in a non invasive fashion without it being a virtual machine. I also need to know if everything gets reverted if I choose to uninstall. Ok good you covered that well in this video.

      Uninstalling is totally safe as well.
      this is all built on Mac's built in very good support for alternative OS installs (though you can never remove macos without the device doing a full out of the box experience).
      The goal is to make all linux distros M1 safe, but this is the first major one. Asahi is being developed as the lowest level in a manner that SHOULD make it mostly droppable into any distro, or even linux core.

    Great tutorial. I've been holding off installing Asahi but this release gives me more confidence to bite the bullet. Out of interest, how hard is it to wipe the linux distro from a mac if I wanted to put it back the way it was? Is it as simple as deleting the partitions or is there more to it than that?

      It wont damage your laptop at any cost mostly. If in case the installation gets failed it will reboot back to macOS automatically.
      If not, you can force turn off Mac, then turn on and keep holding the power button until it says a message: "loading startup options" then you will enter into boot menu.
      Choose Macintosh HD to boot into macOS.
      Then inside macOS, open spotlight and search for "startup disk" and select Macintosh HD..

    Wow, what a great job did Asahi team made already. Seeing how it is possible to run Linux side by side, without compromising security - I will be definitely installing it on my system. Will just wait however for Asahi based on Fedora 40 with KDE 6 and maybe will try new Gnome as well.❤
    One thing - does anyone know if Asahi Linux can run in Parallels Desktop and if there are any benefits of using it as a virtual machine compared to any vm of ARM Linux distro? Probably it makes no sense, but was just thinking that as a VM Asahi Linux could run better than other ARM Linux distros, no?

    • @kskroyaltech
      @kskroyaltech  5 місяців тому +1

      Asahi cannot be run inside a VM. It is meant to experience bare metal and it's so good. Running bare metal is like direct access to Hardware. The fact is that it's designed to be a perfect alternative OS to macOS.

    I'm pretty sure typing "min" (2:55) won't give you the minimum size for Asahi. I believe that it gives you the minimum size for MacOS, which would result in giving you the maximum size for Asahi.

    • @Patryk122PL
      @Patryk122PL 6 місяців тому

      Correct

    • @kskroyaltech
      @kskroyaltech  6 місяців тому

      YES I have realised that later. It gives minimum space for macOS not for Asahi
      Suppose if your Mac is having free space More than 100GB, by typing "*min*" it will allocate 180GB for Asahi. But it works better when Mac is having less than 100GB.
      Anyway, Better to use percent thing.

    Great video. I wanted to watch the actual install process before doing it for real and your video was perfect for that. This has brought up a few questions I was hoping you could answer or may have some insight or an opinion on:
    1) The System Integrity Protection (SIP) was set to permissive for this install, reducing overall security. My macOS install is using FileVault, would it still remain secure? I assume so, but would be easier for an attacker to run some additional tools to hack/crack it.
    2) Can the System Integrity Protection (SIP) be set back to full security after the installation of Asahi Fedora and everything still function as normal in both macOS and Asahi Fedora? Maybe Asahi Fedora would break after that and no longer boot or be available to boot until put back into permissive mode?
    3) Did you or are you going to or need to set the System Integrity Protection (SIP) back to full security once Asahi Fedora was removed?
    4) Is the Asahi Fedora install encrypted or is the option to encrypt it there? Can it do this without a passphrase at boot?

      M3 Chips are New. I guess the support will be extended soon. As of know only M1 or M2 Macs are compatible with Asahi Linux. Til then I encourage to install ubuntu or Kali or any ARM64 Linux ISO on VM using VMWare fusion on M3 Chip. Here is the reference video about Kali Linux ua-cam.com/video/LJo9EUwXiHo/v-deo.html and it works for any apple silicon device:

    I mean its neat that it can be done. In a few years when M1 and M2 deprecated by apple this will mean something. But right now it would be stupid to blow away an install of MacOS for any Linux distro.

      I prefer Linux compare to macOS, for me this is great.

      If you are macOS user and at the same time linux lover then you would understand the scope of Asahi Linux and its support towards apple silicon Macs.

      @@kskroyaltech I am indeed both and have been for many years (MacOS since 2008 and Linux since 2005) and as I said the project is interesting. But I wouldn't dare cripple a new Mac with Linux. I have two older Macs running Linux right now but If I could install the latest MacOS on them without a patcher you better believe I would. It's simply leaps and bounds better.
      Asahi Linux will come in handy in about 5-7 years when the M1 and M2 Macs no longer are supported by MacOS.

      @@PZXhGPEVPZ If you access the internet you don't have "privacy" as for proprietary software I agree but to some people getting their work done is more important than an ideology. The more practical minded.

      This doesn't "blow away" the MacOS. They coexist on the same hardware.

      @@kskroyaltech Although the English word "gnome" is pronounced like "nome", the desktop environment GNOME is often pronounced "guh-nome" because of its origins in the GNU (guh-nu) project. Either pronunciation for the desktop environment is fine.
