    Great information man. When I buy a film camera nowadays the first thing I check is the battery compartment, if it uses a battery. I've come across so many great cameras that unfortunately had severe battery damage from old batteries that ruptured.

    Great video, thank you! I just picked up a Minolta Hi-Matic GF today and didn't know how to test it. Everything appears to be working, except I forgot to look through the viewfinder at the store and it's all cloudy inside.

    What if the camera makes all the right sounds and clicks but it feels like it’s a little slow?
    For example: my Pentax PC-555 measures instantly when I half press the shutter button to measure exposure and auto focus, but takes a few clicks and definitely more than a few seconds to actually fire

    Hey man, I just found the family’s old film cam and tried to put in some double AA’s on it. It does whir but the flash doesn’t seem to work and I read that the Olympus Trip AF 50 has it on by default. Is it still worth buying a film?

    • @themikepadua

      Some suggestions: first, make sure the batteries are fresh, and that the battery contacts inside the camera are clean and making full contact with the batteries. Second, when you're test firing the camera, make sure you're in a dark enough environment to where the camera's sensor makes the flash fire; if you're outside, or pointing it out a window, the camera may think it's too bright to fire the flash.

      Try giving it a gentle bump on the bottom with your palm to see if something engages. Other than that, it's probably just easier to find a new one

    Do most 35mm point and shoot shutters work without a film,

    Hey! I have an old camera and it appears that the shutter does NOT work correctly. Do you have any information on how to repair this or is it better to just chuck it? I got it at a garage sale so it’s no big deal. But I’ve been trying to find info on how to repair a stuck shutter and I just can’t find what I need

    My fuji dl-80n keeps firing flash with every shot, is something wrong with a light meter? Or because there’s might be no dx coding on the roll? Or is it something else? Please I would really appreciate you help.

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому +1

      Sorry I did not see this comment earlier. No DX on the roll might be the culprit--are you also trying to shoot in daylight? Cameras usually default to ISO 100 when there's no DX coding on the roll--but even at ISO 100 in direct sunlight, the camera would not likely resort to flash. I'd try metering in direct sun to see if the flash still fires; if it still does fire, make sure there's nothing block/obstructing the window cover the meter and autofocus sensors. Outside of that, I don't know what else the problem could be.

    nice video!! i still have a doubt, could you guys help me? i just bought an yashica mc 28 and it has automatic flash. when i put the batteries on and shoot, it does not make the click sound but it does rewind the film, should i get worry about it? it looks like it was supposed to click 😭

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому +1

      clicks on those cameras will be barely audible--the shutter is very small and travels a very short distance. Best thing to do is to check to see if the shutter actually opens. Good luck!

    Hii, my point & shoot camera keeps flashing E tho I already put the film in it, any tips to fix it?

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  2 роки тому

      Make sure there's no dust or dirt inside the camera, I'd recommend a quick blow from some canned air duster. Very gently, with the tip of a pencil, give the visible gears and teeth inside a little bit of a wiggle, but don't force them to move, just a slight wiggle. Finally, using the palm of your hand, give the camera a gentle tap on the bottom.

  • @grex3324
    @grex3324 Рік тому

    Hey man sorry to bug but I recently got a Minolta freedom 2 point and shoot. When I put the batteries in the cameras motor just kept going and it won’t stop I opened the film door and still it keeps going when I close it

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому +1

      These are definitely no-guarantee solutions, but I would try a couple of things: while holding the camera in one hand, give the camera a couple of gentle taps on the bottom with the firm heel part of your palm. Not too hard, about as hard as when you clap. The second: blow out the inside of the camera using canned air/C02, paying attention to any crevices and latches you see around the edges of the open back. What this will potentially do is dislodge any dust or debris and disengages any internal sensors that are causing that camera's sensing mechanisms to think there is a roll present that needs to be re-wound. If none of that works, it's very possible the camera's broken.

      @@themikepadua thank you for the reply! I’ll defiantly give it a try.
      I kinda found out what the problem is but still can’t fix it. It’s doesn’t want to wind the film in to wear I can take a photo.

    hi mark. i just got a olympus mju zoom 105. everything is working perfectly fine but except the shutter wont open. when i tried to open the back and check if it has the light like you said. it always turn off whenever i want to open the camera. can you tell me what is problem with the camera ? thank you 😢

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому

      those types of cameras often won't allow you to fire if the back is open. Instead of looking through the lens with the back open, close the back, turn off the flash, and look straight through the front of the lens to see if it opens

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому

      @@alicenhiv02 It is possible that it's broken--the only way to really tell is to sacrifice a roll of film to see if there are any exposures.

    Hello, I have a Yashica J. I am able to take a picture with the backdoor open but the shutter blades just opens a small hole that exposes little light. Is this a problem and should I be concerned whether my film is getting enough exposure?

    • @themikepadua

    My shutter opens on my fujifilm zoom date but it doesn’t open up as a full circle like the one you showed. It’s like an almond shape, is that normal?

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  Рік тому

      Really sorry I didn't reply earlier--yes, that is very normal. That's a leaf style shutter and they aren't always a perfect circle, sometimes there's fewer blades and they don't make a circular shape.

    Hello! My Olympus stylus 105 flash won’t work so when the flash mode is on it won’t shoot, just keeps on blinking orange. But when I turn the flash off, it shoots. Any idea? Is the flash really not working anymore?

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  3 роки тому

      First thing I suggest is getting a fresh battery. A battery that is partially drained may not be sufficiently charging the capacitor. Also, tryi pulling the battery out of the camera for about 10 minutes. While the battery is out, depress the shutter button a few times and make sure it is traveling all the way up and down, and that is not stuck. After 10 minutes, put the battery back in. If that doesn't work, it could be that the flash is no longer working properly

    • @themikepadua

      On relatively newer cameras like that one, those gears usually don't engage until film is loaded and the door is closed.
