Check out our conversation with Illinois School for the Deaf/Institute educator Briana Bowen.
Briana attended the 2023 Institute as both a teacher and a parent. Briana’s son Jaxx, 2, was in Classroom A, while Briana worked in Classroom C.
Briana and her mom, along with other Institute parents and family members, learned from psychologists, social workers and speech and language therapists throughout the course of the program. While Briana and her mom learned more about Jaxx and his needs, Jaxx was making new connections.
“I’m glad that he was able to interact with peers and other kids who have a hearing loss,” shared Briana. “He’s never been around other children until this week, especially children with a hearing loss,” she added. “I was really thankful for that.”
The Institute for Parents of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is an opportunity for the whole family to grow through education and connection.
The 2024 Institute is June 13-16.
