- A challenge with beauty photography can be maintaining the same feeling throughout a shoot when the client wants different styling in every image. Recently Rossella Vanon had to do a beauty shoot with six different makeup looks. Watch how she keeps a consistent touch through six different setups using softboxes and a beauty dish.

Interesting lens choice. Looks like the standard 100 f/2.8 macro. I looked at the shots in the article and they were beautiful. I shoot Sony now but one of my all time favorite lenses is the Canon 135 f/2 , just an amazing lens at a great price.
Very poor video in fact. Talking a lot without giving information about the setup itself. All the photographers know profoto by now. In my opinion the title doesn't match the content in the video.

Thanks Profoto for the info. However, as an individual video on UA-cam it doesn't work. Watch as a photographer who sees its title and get excited that "I'm going to see a useful video" but the fact is the video don't give you any valuable information. Don't get me wrong I like profoto products. That's my opinion!

Beautiful ! Great video. Maybe you should have mentioned in the video to go and look on the website for more info on the light setups :) Differences are very clear and I could clearly identify 5 different light setups in the final images. Hi please help me with one question .i want to know if profoto b 10 can be used with one continuous light like nanlite or aputure 120d for fill light and background light ? And which continuous light is better ? Nanlight 150 / auture 120dThe purpose of shoot is portraits and fashion . Thanks

Beautiful models beautiful shots, soft light feel.
Many other ways to achieve similar effect using different light modifiers, reflectors, v-flaps, panels, etc. this is just one approach., don't need 10k worth of flash, better to invest more in glass.
How many lenses does one need to make a headshot or head and shoulders shot?
Maybe add a lighting diagram while showing the result would be very helpful

Interesting, and I like the set ups and all. But I was a little curious about the fact that if she is a "premier" fashion photographer (which I don't doubt), with the camera she is using, and considering how much it costs for Profoto gear, then why isn't she using L glass? She can afford it after all. But I am going to have to try some of these set ups for myself (with less expensive gear).
Who cares. Just buy whats in your budget and thank profoto for making lighting video

These pictures look good, but I doubt the video is very helpful for a beginner trying to figure out how to create similar looks. Also, my initial impression is that, while the lighting is certainly lovely, all six lighting setups look pretty much alike, i.e. soft and beautiful. Use a soft light as your main source and maybe add some accent lights...I guess that's the takeaway.

Beginner? She is using $10K worth of Profoto lights! There is no beginner here.... the only photographer who would watch this video is someone who could not afford to step into this realm.. just sayin'.
Prestige Photo; there is no requirement to purchase $10K worth of Profoto lights to replicate this effect. You can easily purchase a far cheaper solution and do the EXACT same thing.

Taxes and softboxes, well over $10K
I use Profoto. I love Profoto. But if you have $10K of lights and TTL, you should be able to get nice, soft, flat light. In auto mode. Same lighting as a Fongdong
Why? Its easy as fuck. Softboxes are easy and you can see here how they were setup.
Is this a tutorial or an ad ?
I made it a bit over halfway through before giving up. This really doesn't appear to be anything more than an advertisement for Profoto.

How come Jerry Ghionis does make such beautiful wedding pics with any of these artificial lights. Does that mean that he is a master, and these guys depend on lights?

Vanon obviously gets nice and varied results. But, the video fails to communicate to the viewer how she did it because it leaves out diagrams of the light setups. That misses the whole point of a tutorial. The video and audio are stylishly done. Alas, the key content is missing; style over substance doesn't cut it.

I like the photography but this is an advertisement not a tutorial. The title is misleading. This is not how you build followers or support on UA-cam guys.

It's just a commercial. With such a short running time, it would be hard to squeeze in the lighting type and placement.

The more tutorials I see the better my understanding is that lady photographers simply do not know how and when to use artificial lights LOL Even the most famous and recognizable ladies photogs are the same way... Don't get me wrong. The pictures are great, but they heavily rely on beauty of their models, quality of makeup, concepts of their shoots and final retouching of the images. Especially retouching!

Great shots but poor video. There is little information as how the light were being used. Simply dropping part numbers does not do the magic.

we get that we can take great photos with $20,000 in profoto equipment. show us the lighting set ups.

Too many lights they make the model look flat since there aren't any shadows.
Make up sometimes is used to create depth and shadows.
Where are the diagrams, the setup, ratio, feathering, and pretty much everything apart promoting the brand. #dissapointed.

Thanks for sharing the video. In terms of fashion industry, this video is old-fashion tutorial. Too much lightning (unnecesarilly) and over-retouched.
