Ive worked for a small FFL for a year, best job ive ever had. But let me tell you, you have to consider that you may not love guns the same way if you work with them all day every day. When hobbies become a job, it can change things. Not for me though, im just broke from buying discounted guns all the time
🤣👍👏 I love me some guns - I had that problem when I went to college for computers - 40 years of being a hobby shot to hell over working with them every day - I will never feel that way about guns - if nothing else I will stay involved to get new people into the sport, and educated about standing up for our GOD given rights... Love of guns never gets old - there are just too many avenues of action from collecting to advocacy. Tired of collecting? - bring some kids to the range - you will get fired up all over again!
I asked a nice priced gun store/outfitter store owner how he kept his prices so low(bought a gen 1 sub2000 glock mag back in 2012 for $349 when they were hard to find), he told me. "There's no money in selling guns. I only make about $10 off each gun, I make my money with all that other shit over there that their wives buy"
I have been kicking this idea around for a while now, just got to quit stalling and take the leap. Its hard with 3 kids and a wife to quit my job now that keeps the bills paid food on the table with a little change left over and dive into the unknown.
A deep dive into the FFL process would be awesome. I've really been thinking about it just to do transfers for a little cash to fund my personal gunsmith projects
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
It hasn't been a republic in function since the implementation of the 16th and 17th amendments both of which caused the present overly centralized federal government.
I can think of 2 useful phrases to remember about this topic. First, "Buy once, cry once" applies just as well here as in any other part of the firearms world. Second, I took a business law class and I would sum up the whole class as "If it's not in writing it doesn't count."

Greetings from Ohio. Now what if you want to teach the legacy of gunsmithing to whomever would be willing? I.e. starting a technical school? Seriously, an actual question though. Born and raised in Ohio and not one place in this state is teaching the trade.
Damien Manson my buddy’s son just went to a gunsmithing school in Colorado that’s supposedly one of the best. I moved to Indiana from the very anti 2A NJ and absolutely love it here and feel bad for all my friends and family who own guns back in Jersey.
Damien Manson my buddy’s son just went to a gunsmithing school in Colorado that’s supposedly one of the best. I moved to Indiana from the very anti 2A NJ and absolutely love it here and feel bad for all my friends and family who own guns back in Jersey.
@Otter Green I've been looking into CTI for a while now and heard nothing but good things about them. I just wonder about the legalities starting my own gunsmithing institute in Ohio. The man who raised me did so with a .22lr Henry and did so very well. I knew my rifle as good as my yard and it turned into an undying passion. With that being said we need a place close to home to learn. Also, congrats on getting away from NJ. That's what's driving me to create a school in my home state, the thought of me leaving this state is a tough one. Now ohio gun laws are not all terrible, glad to see you "pulled the trigger" on that move. Also congrats to the aspiring gunsmith of yours, I hope to follow soon.
Damien Manson good luck on the future endeavor and thanks for welcoming me out of NJ. Gotta love this state, especially when the open/concealed permit application consists of fingerprints, a small fee and application at the state police and 10 days later it shows up. If you can pass the NICS you’ll get your carry permit and at the moment, state legislature is pushing for constitutional carry. Far cry from NJ which is a May Issue and trying everything in the book to disarm its citizens. Look how well the mag ban went. Not one mag turned in so there’s basically 1.8 million overnight felons in that state and they’re gonna be doing forced confiscation soon. Just watch.
What do you do though? Plenty of people making money in firearms. If you're doing a retail location, as with all businesses you have to diversify your store front and actually compete to get people into it. Many retailers are having issue trying to find something to offer the consumer over generally cheaper online prices for products.
@@airbomb34 Exactly. I mostly just do transfers but I keep a small selection of Mil Surps and cheaper firearms and I have a definite interest in recurves and longbows so I worked that into it too. I'm the only store in a hundred miles that sells real primitive archery stuff

Maybe a gun gripe about the new firearms ban in Illinois. I say firearms and not “assault weapons” because the way it’s written it will go after handguns too.
Ok here is a question I have been trying to find the answer to. What ever happened to actual gun fabricators. I see allot of people with the title of "gunsmith". However not one I talked to actually does custom work or make their own which is why I said gun fabdicator. All I see is people who can fix certain things or put parts together. Now don't get me wrong it still takes a certain skill set and knowledge to do it. I am not trying to undermine gunsmith. I simply am frustrated at this dilemma. ( Also note this might read worse than I mean. I am not most tactful and tend to be blunt.)
Great stuff and completely agree on the setting it up right...have several small businesses through the years to protect personal assets...any suggestions on good gunsmith programs?
I just do private transactions, occasionally. I build, modify and sell antique firearms. I will never submit to any infringement, let alone FFL, but I also don't want to catch some retaliation or get wrongfully imprisoned, either. So, this is what I do, and up to twice a year. It works.
I really want to start my own gun manufacturing company. I wanna make premium firearms at an affordable price because I think that market hasn't been tapped by many manufacturers
What is required to import ammo? Or reloading components? How much can I buy and keep personally? What are the "tiers" that alert, vs alarm the a tee eff???
But why is a moss-berg maverick 88 $199.99 at academy and $299.00 or even $350.0 at a gun store?? I’ve seen this my whole life and I don’t understand it. I understand there are tiers of sales rates by manufacturers but it can’t be that much of a difference
So I was wondering what if you want to make custom parts for guns but not a actual firearm do you need a ffl? Example selling a Glock slide or custom coated slide/parts
I wish I could have Eric help me fix my mosin trigger because it's like dragging a piano across the street and I can't do it cause I don't have the equipment.
