As a French speaker who’s part French, I find those words powerful not only to children but also to teens. Especially if you’ve struggled to fit in and had difficult and lost childhood and youth. Because of which, some of these people fail their exams just cuz the invest their time trying fit in when they’re alot more gifted and talented. I’ve seen people throwing away their gifts trying to fit in to no-avail. In the end when they fail, no one is there for them to pick up the pieces. Least to say their sense of self. They live a life of a loser and pity, and who’s responsible? The people around him that could function while they made his life hell. Not to mention when he’s actually an intellect, but all that self neglect made him feel empty, and lonely. A battered child or someone who’s bullied isn’t always the case of classic domestic violence, but also peer pressure and bullying. Some people fail in life because they got so traumatised by the series of incidents that they can’t move on, and worse, society condemns them. Simply because of not being able to close that chapter. I’ve been there so I can relate. I’ve always been a science and engineering design type of guy but people only respected you because they want something from you, other than that, they never communicate with you. Thus im a battered soul due to these experiences. And I take the teacher’s words as gospel.
