I've been playing a version of the mono-black Panharmonicon for a while, and it's not only fun but upgradable as well. I've only added a couple of pieces so far...a couple of Nykthos, Shrine of Nyx, a couple of Victim of Night and Inquisition of Kozilek...I'll get to the Lilis and Phyrexian Obliterators eventually...
Loved the video both as a seasoned magic player and a budget player. I definitely think it was one of your more well done videos so keep up the good work.
Mono black is DEFINITELY my favorite, I've always been a huuuge fan of garry and this deck looks sweet. If I were to play modern I'd play that. Hands down.
I love these. I play standard too, but it is nice to see you doing modern techs again. I know it's not your typical shtick, but your video on $10 infect got me into modern, so it's nice to see another video like this. Thanks!
A buddy of mine has been playing a variation of that Elves deck for a couple of years now. The big difference is he plays less creatures and includes various planeswalkers. Freyelise, a couple of Nissa's, a Karn. One of his best decks. Cool to see a different take on it. Thanks!
Sweet! I can build those last 2 damn near and I had no idea of these decks. Oviously I knew about elves but never put them together like that. I can't wait to build these!
I've had a mono-black panharmonicon deck for a few months now and it's insanely fun! Dev mentioned this but you can upgrade the deck gradually, with Inquisition of Kozileks and Thoughtseizes replacing brain maggot and chittering/ravenous rats and things like that.
I've actually been brewing with Elves since Lorwyn was Standard. Currently my Elf Warrior dual tribal does gives all sorts of tier 1 decks a run for their money. And while I don't win as often as I'd like against those T1 decks, having a $75-$80 deck defeat their +-$1000 deck is hilarious.
Uktabi Drake is my favorite Green aggro card, period. I built my Pauper around it and a bunch of other super-cheap flyers, like Glinthawk and Vault Skirge. I recommend it heavily, since it's like a tiny Ball Lightning, albeit a third of one, and it flies rather than trampling, but you can (if you want) keep this one around.
I've always liked your channel because I occasionally run into budget decks you cover at the LGSs around me and playing Titanshift I always have time to get food after I 2-0 these decks.
The mono black deck could likely run 2x Blighted Fen's for just a tad more interaction, maybe more, but obviously got a lot of (B)(B) or (B)(B)(B) casting costs so don't want to run to many, as blighted fen taps for colorless.
The elves deck was pretty cool, but I think I would have to have a budget modern play group to have the most fun with it. Looking forward to more modern deck techs.
I run the panharmonicon deck with Inquisitions, thoughtseizes and some other spot removal and it usually performs pretty good. Would also run liliana of the veil but I can't afford a playset right now. Just cut down the gontis, a couple of shreikmaws, a couple brain maggots and 1 chittering rats to run the discard and removal
This reminds me of a really, really old article from the long-extinct Duelist magazine circa 1998 or so. It was a joke article that made the case for banning Islands. So in other words we've been talking about banning Islands for 20 years
Good video ! Here is some other modern budget decks that you might like : Seismic swans, Hearthless summoning, zombie hunt, 8rack (budget version), and MTGGOLDFISH did a nice "turn 2 tokens" pretty spicy ! Have fun !
I’m running 2 blue suns zenith, a comet storm and a banefire in the pili pals deck as banefire cannot be countered and you can use muddle the mixture to draw for comet storm.
your harmonicon deck is almost exactly like my mono black devotion deck. 24 lands, 10 fetches to activate fatal push and 3 nykthos. +3 thoughtseize, 3 obliterator, 3 lilli of the veil. obviously not suggesting that unless you got the budget but the creature base is spot on like mine (even a single gonti - he wins the game if I'm playing anything not combo related... instantly shuts down tron if I pull a wincon and nykthos can cast it for me). I might try you pan version because it's a very easy switcheroo.
It's super tempting to splash white so you can run flickerwisp with panharmonicon. But the double white cost means you'd probably have to make the land base much more expensive.
Mono black Dev is legit though, I went into a 32 man Gpt with some slight upgrades (inquisition, fatal push, gifted aetherborn) and I went 4-1-1. Won against burn, UW control, and even 2 death shadow decks! Only lost against tron, which what felt like the most unwinnable match up ever
If you want to unnecessarily triple the cost of the combo deck you could put in Pact of Negation to protect the combo then just pay the cost of the spell next turn with infinite mana.
Having four Cavern of Souls and four Mutavaults from back in the day always leads me to play some kind of Modern tribal deck. I've run elves before and perhaps I will run them again.
Great vid as always man, love your content. Can I make a vote for some pauper deck techs? Would love to see what you brew for that format, though I'll watch whatever you put out, thanks fella :)
Grey merchant! I love putting this in any black deck, as long as it makes sense to that is. My god, I'm just thinking of owning people at fnm's with it haha. Man, theros was a good block.
I was immediately thinking Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, since this deck is mono black, it could make it so that once you hit mid game, you can tap for devotion and mass cast a lot, for a lot of ETB effects, and still wayy more fun with a panharmonicon. What do you think??
I said Jeskai Geist was going to be my next modern deck, but I'm seriously debating tweaking and building that monoblack panharmonicon deck. Also, pan isn't legendary. You have have multiples out.
instead of a 4 of azure mage in the first deck I would mix in 2-3 kefnet. this gives us an alt wincon due to the fact that we can draw all the cards due to our infinite Mana. it raises our curve a bit, but again.... infinite Mana.
so the censors in the pili pala deck can cycle, but I would rather mainboard dispels in the format. even if you arent playing againt control you can use it against fatal pushes and paths or any removal of your combo AND it counters collected company for 1 mana against the counters deck. It doesnt dig but does a lot of work.
Digging the new intro. I've always thought Gary was a good card, but its price was always shockingly low to me. Black Panharmonicon seems like it would be fun to upgrade. Damnation, anyone?
with all the lords and the forestwalk the elves deck feels a lot like green merfolk. do you think it would benefit from aether vial if you have the dollops for it? how about collected company?
Collected Company definitely goes in a more expensive list, but Aether Vial is just too slow. The goal is to generate enough mana to dump all of your elves on the field as soon as possible. Aether Vial won't be valuable until at least turn three or four.
Pro about this list: If you're playing modern you can pimp these decks out. I've had rats saved for a long time just waiting for a reason to use them and boom you remind me of panharmonicon. I'll just use damnations, thoughtseize, and inq. for protection and turn 1 insult to injury. Cons about this list: I look like an idiot for forgetting about panharmonicon lol Did you refer to it as legendary tho?
Is garruk caller of beast good in the elf deck for his +1 lead the stamped every turn effect? Yeah i know he cost 6 mana but i figure in elves you make so much mana that thats probably not that big of a problem.
Today I ate at the Chili's on 5th Ave. The wait was only 15 minutes even though I came during dinner rush. The wait staff was energetic and polite, even the hostes with two lazy eyes. My food was well cooked and the bartender sure could make a mean Margarita. Definitely recommend (5🌟)
I have been playing the mono black for a league and it works pretty well. I found you really need something for turn one so I bought some thoughtseize's and inquisition of kozilek but not sure how many to play. Also found a lot of cool sideboard cards but still pretty new to modern since I quit playing during cold-snap. So I am not sure what to play for competitive games without spending a few hundred dollars. any advice anyone?
Would Throne of the God Pharaoh be a good card to put in the elves deck? Your turning cards sideways every turn and will just start to chip off damage each turn!
I've invested a lot into elves and run one Throne in the main right now. It can just incidentally win you the game sometimes, especially in a green-black version with Shaman of the Pack.
It probably also gets better in versions with chord/heritage druid, where you have a way to tap your non-manadork elves. It might be a minor thing but throne also gets around both leyline of sanctity and ensnaring bridge
How to make most modern deck somewhat budget.
Remove the fetch and shock lands
i guess Im kind of off topic but does anybody know of a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
@Tripp Lorenzo I dunno I watch on flixportal. just google after it=) -connor
@Connor Saul Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !
@Tripp Lorenzo Glad I could help =)
Would love more Budget Modern Decks!!
You make it possible for me and my son to play all kinds of cool decks, thank you!

Thanks for all the good content. i never seem to stick 100% to your builds but these budget builds have been great fun around my local meta. Chive on!
I love these. I play standard too, but it is nice to see you doing modern techs again. I know it's not your typical shtick, but your video on $10 infect got me into modern, so it's nice to see another video like this. Thanks!
Love seeing some modern decks, especially budget ones! Good stuff.
This is sweet man, thanks. Good to know you can do a modern competitive without taking a loan to buy a deck.
so glad to see you dipping your toes into modern, these decks are sweet, and fairly decent! Good on you Dev!!
This was a real enjoyable video. I so want to get the 2nd and 3rd decks!
wow, these decks seem so fun, and love that they're affordable. Want more of these kinds of videos!
Cool decks man. Thanks for the awesome video. Something like this for legacy would be cool.
A buddy of mine has been playing a variation of that Elves deck for a couple of years now. The big difference is he plays less creatures and includes various planeswalkers. Freyelise, a couple of Nissa's, a Karn. One of his best decks. Cool to see a different take on it. Thanks!

Love the mono black panharmonicon deck! Gonna try it Modern Monday!!!

Three?! Oh you spoil us Dev...
Uktabi Drake is my favorite Green aggro card, period. I built my Pauper around it and a bunch of other super-cheap flyers, like Glinthawk and Vault Skirge.

Not trying to sound snarky I just mean that I'm a big boy who needs food and these match ups are great for me.
I always love your videos because you just put out great content . Some youtubers lose so much in content by trying to make their videos look pretty.
Thanks Dev! These are way more budget friendly than others I've seen. Going to build elves and panharmonicon!👍
That elves deck has seriously shot up in value...$100+, now.
Damn, Dev, thanks a ton! Now I can get my boy into modern too. Too bad I can't give a thumbs up for each decklist.
Just starting to get into Magic after playing some with my friend. Thanks for these kinds of vids!
The mono black deck could likely run 2x Blighted Fen's for just a tad more interaction, maybe more, but obviously got a lot of (B)(B) or (B)(B)(B) casting costs so don't want to run to many, as blighted fen taps for colorless.
Now we're talking budget! Budget eternal is sweet! And Panharmonicon is always fun, my vote is there!
Careful, I hear "fun" means "ban" in WotC language. bahahahahaha.
Elves!!!Something inside me wants to add a trampling hydra or two.
Really fun alt wincon in pili pala combo is running spawnsire of ulamog and whipping out all your eldrazi cards in your collection
The elves deck was pretty cool, but I think I would have to have a budget modern play group to have the most fun with it. Looking forward to more modern deck techs.
I run the panharmonicon deck with

Just play the best modern deck!
i even brewed it myself and it will only cost you under 1 dollar!
56 islands
4 storm crows
sideboard:
15 mountains
Island is the most op card in magic.
TheBirdNerd Wotc: "Islands take up too much of the meta."
Wotc: *Bans islands
This reminds me of a really, really old article from the long-extinct Duelist magazine circa 1998 or so. It was a joke article that made the case for banning Islands. So in other words we've been talking about banning Islands for 20 years
Strictly Better MtG I would totally subscribe to issues of gaming magazines if they still sold them. Do they?
Why would you talk about banning islands when you have the most blatantly powerful creature ever printed in Stormcrow? If anything, ban the crow
I'd play the combo deck if I had to choose between the three. Great stuff, Dev. Keep it up!
Good video !
Here is some other modern budget decks that you might like : Seismic swans, Hearthless summoning, zombie hunt, 8rack (budget version), and MTGGOLDFISH did a nice "turn 2 tokens" pretty spicy !
Have fun !
Thanks Dev!
I will be building the elves and mono black panharmonicon!
i like intro, but i love your sweet beats bro.
great video mate, I really like this format
The black deck really speaks to me. It reminded me of a Standard deck I never got around to building as well. Good stuff!
The Panharmonicon looks sick, and I'd probably try using Fatal Pushes instead of Phyrexian Arena, but I need to test it out first.
for elves you could add wrap in vigor to stop board wipes
I finally got into Modern after saving and building for roughly a year. it's expensive but fun to get into....T2'ing with GriShoalBrand is fun...
I’m running 2 blue suns zenith, a comet storm and a banefire in the pili pals deck as banefire cannot be countered and you can use muddle the mixture to draw for comet storm.
I have been looking for a video like thos thx so much
your harmonicon deck is almost exactly like my mono black devotion deck.

It's super tempting to splash white so you can run flickerwisp with panharmonicon. But the double white cost means you'd probably have to make the land base much more expensive.
NEED to know your thoughts on the spoiled Bolas Planeswalker card! NEED, NOW!
That black deck makes me want to actually play modern. Thanks :-D
I really like the elf deck, going to try it with some Heroic Interventions. Some reason I love that card.
If you want to unnecessarily triple the cost of the combo deck you could put in Pact of Negation to protect the combo then just pay the cost of the spell next turn with infinite mana.
I like the look of the elf deck. If I wanted to include the planeswalker Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury which cards should I take out?
Sidisi, undead vizier is pretty good as well - exploit search your library for any card
I love the opening! It's sweet.

The elf deck looks suprisingly good, the only upgrade I could think of is Dryad Arbor with Fetchlands.
Great video. Please do more modern content!
why did the algorithm bring me here? this is nostalgic tho
thanks for that infinite mana combo. really wanna put it in my modern esper time sieve deck
A really cheap deck that's REALLY fast and powerful is budget affinity robots. It can outspeed so many other decks consistantly, and its under 50$.
I said Jeskai Geist was going to be my next modern deck, but I'm seriously debating tweaking and building that monoblack panharmonicon deck. Also, pan isn't legendary. You have have multiples out.
Jeskai Geist is a lot of fun but can be expensive depending on what direction you want to go with it.
Yeah, I'm gonna try to trade for as much as I can over the course of about a year before I put any money into it.
Cool! Keep doing these my dude!
instead of a 4 of azure mage in the first deck I would mix in 2-3 kefnet. this gives us an alt wincon due to the fact that we can draw all the cards due to our infinite Mana. it raises our curve a bit, but again.... infinite Mana.
Yes yes yes thank you for modern content Dev
The pili-pala combo could also use banefire. XR for X damage and if X is 5 or greater it can't be countered
so the censors in the pili pala deck can cycle, but I would rather mainboard dispels in the format. even if you arent playing againt control you can use it against fatal pushes and paths or any removal of your combo AND it counters collected company for 1 mana against the counters deck. Digging the new intro. I've always thought Gary was a good card, but its price was always shockingly low to me. Black Panharmonicon seems like it would be fun to upgrade.
Damnation, anyone?
for the elves i think Lifecrafter’s Bestiary would be a good grab for that deck.
Can you do an updated version of this?
SICKEST INTROS ON THE TUBE!!
great video, i have a friend that is scared to get into magic because of the cost!
with all the lords and the forestwalk the elves deck feels a lot like green merfolk. do you think it would benefit from aether vial if you have the dollops for it? how about collected company?
Collected Company definitely goes in a more expensive list, but Aether Vial is just too slow. The goal is to generate enough mana to dump all of your elves on the field as soon as possible. Aether Vial won't be valuable until at least turn three or four.
Mono Black Panharmonicon sounds dope my dude
talk about Assault Formation / Doran Siege Tower deck
Love you channel Dev. Any plan for making the new nissa + bounty of the luxa deck?
Pro about this list: If you're playing modern you can pimp these decks out. I've had rats saved for a long time just waiting for a reason to use them and boom you remind me of panharmonicon. I'll just use damnations, thoughtseize, and inq. for protection and turn 1 insult to injury.

cool black deck. cool t-shirt.
I'm begging for more Commander videos over here!
Heeey, it's my main man!
I play a buget deck I kind of spent some more on the deck but I play goblins.
The black one is awesome!
Green elves looks sooo good! Go green elves!
The intro to this video sounds a lot like Amp Plains from PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky
Wait is leaving Yelp reviews in UA-cam comments a thing now because that is GENIUS
love your budget elves!
question about the panharmonicon deck: why no nykthos? really liked the elves deck
Just add 3 Nykthos shrine to Nyx in the 3. one and you´re good to go! =)
to add on to this If you wanna go duel colored (Either G/W or G/B) I would only use 1-2 to avoid mana screw.
Would Throne of the God Pharaoh be a good card to put in the elves deck? Your turning cards sideways every turn and will just start to chip off damage each turn!
Phillip Wombacher never thought of that. And I can close the game if you attack with 4-5 elves and two lords.
Good video. Thanks for some new ideas.
I can't seem to remember..
Was it fun with a panhormonican out?
so i stumbled on this video and love the mono black deck.. but why use ravenous rats instead of black cat?
Guttural Response is a sideboard for elves ageinst blue swippers
Considering how we now have steel leaf champion and elvish clan caller and thorn lieutenant. Would u add those to this green elf deck for modern?
Damn you Dev! I just managed to CUT Panharmonicon from my Meren deck. Now I'm 50/50 on it again.
Count your ETB triggers
Dimir House Guard or Clutch of the Undercity to search for panharmonicon?
