- Deepfakes aren't just Hollywood magic anymore-they're part of our everyday lives, found in everything from the news we consume to the memes we share. But not all deepfakes are created equally. Understanding how and why content may have been manipulated gives us essential context that can be used to better understand and counter similar malicious behavior in the future. Through the Semantic Forensics program, DARPA's research investments in detecting, attributing, and characterizing deepfakes have developed hundreds of analytics and methods to help organizations and individuals protect themselves against the threats of manipulated media.
