Native Germans have always been known to be somewhat reserved and stoic…but the reaction of that crowd in the venue on German national TV really tells a lot - they REALLY loved it, went totally nuts, and it showed.
TV host Michael Schanze, who in the 80s also did a lot of good stuff for children’s tv, did an amazing job here.
This was an awesome send-off performance for ABBA in late 1982, shortly before things got silent...
The interaction with their fans was electric,emotional and disarmingly adorable.Gives me chills everytime i watch this.Especially in the end that they rushed on stage to give them the big hug!Little did we all know that this was also ''the end" ....until 4 decades later that they came back for us after the drought and the gap they had left behing.

Abba are the best period ! Just looking at the comments in so many languages you realise they were a international collosus bigger than any music at the time.you would never detect they sang in a foreign language to them,in addition to singing in Spanish,French and german.now 40 years later they have risen again.They are classic masters now.on top of this they are normal down to earth.How wonderful they have come back for us to fill us with positivity after a pandemic.I love you so much Abba, I'm crying .
Agree, I first heard them sing in Spanish in 1979. I was on holiday in Majorca and Chiquitita came on in a bar! I bought it and brought a vinyl copy home with me. I think I still have it!

Wasn't crying until I read your comment. They fill me up. Such happy and sad emotion both until you feel like your heart will burst. So happy and grateful ABBA exists. Love them thoroughly and completely, no hesitation. Would never want a world without their interpretation of our emotions. ABBA is perfection. And they include and recognize us all.

A lot of people consider Agnetha to be the better singer but after watching many live performances, Frida to me is the best. They both are incredible but Frida has more depth.

I know it's become a fan favourite song, but I've always found it plodding and dull. Could never get into it... the only magical part for me is Frida's haunting operatic riffs. The rest is a snooze fest.

One of their last recorded performances, showcasing the maturity of their songwriting and arrangements. Sheer brilliance. Hard to believe that Cassandra - the real masterpiece here - had to be released only as a B-side.
Ja, but dont forget that without this voices, the arrangement and all are Nothing. In the time that Benny and Björn sang, there wasnt so magical until Agnetha and Frida voices taked the songs.

Every time I watch the whole video, there is also great sadness. I'll start thinking about how four happy people wanted to write beautiful songs. Each of them perceived engagement and fame differently. They did not suffer from the desire for "fast" fame. Overloading forces brought misunderstandings in the group and there was a change in understanding between the spouses. They never really broke up, even though it shook the band. They remained friends for life. They were and are so musically perfect and beautiful. ABBA gives us a lot. They showed us how strong the music is. It connects many people. It's a good idea to get to know all ABBA songs and not just the famous ABBA hits from the music maps. Then you would like to know the whole ABBA story. In this story there is talent, love, smile, happiness, and, unfortunately, loneliness, emptiness and tears of sadness. I want everyone to be healthy and happy. Thank you ABBA for the music. Thanks your Agnetha, Frida, Benny, Björn

Very well said and so true. I can clearly remember when ABBA was formed and I new these four artists would go very far and be successful the world over. The boys were then singing together and were very popular and Agneta was also very popular solo artist in her own right. I remember an LP, "Elva kvinnor i ett hus" that Agneta produced shortly before the four got together. I didn't know as much about Anni Frid at the time because she lived in Norway where the other three were in Sweden where I lived at the time. They were an absolute breath of fresh air when they got together and have maintained their popularity since the early seventies.

The funny thing is that Benny told her to not sing as well as she could because it was talking about a normal girl’s daily life, but she still sang it better than most singers out there.

I had a great appreciation for their previous album 'Super Trouper' because my sister bought it, and as time passes, at 57, I really appreciate more what they created from beginning to end, as individuals and as a group. Agnetha, and Freida's angelic voices, along with Benny and Björn's melodies have touched my soul. "Thank You for the Music " indeed, and thank you for sharing this! Я не знал о существовании этой песни. Да и откуда было мне знать. В СССР мы знали про АВВА только кое-что и это кое-что было урывками, отрывками из обрывков. Мне случайно удалось посмотреть фильм о турне АВВА по Австралии в маленьком военном городке, где мы, инженеры, в 1983 году проходили переподготовку, подготовку и готовку к войне с невидимым противником. Бегали с незаряженными автоматами наперевес и стреляли в этого самого противника. Этот фильм, видимо, был не для широкого показа, шёл в маленьких городках. Он о теплом приёме группы АВВА жителями Австралии в 1977 году. Тогда мне открылся неведомый мир, где существует группа молодых и красивых девушек и парней, поющих модные песни в стиле диско. Когда уже появился интернет, мне захотелось послушать все популярные песни АВВА и выбрать самую-самую. Все песни слушал с удовольствием: Dancing Queen, Fernando, The Winner take it all, Thank you for the music. Вдруг, о чудо, попалась песня, которая мне запала в душу, за несколько лет до этого дня. Как-то раз я смотрел клип Галерея (The Gallery. Jos Stelling. 5-ти минутный клип) с эротическим раздеванием красивой женщины в галереи. Бессловесный клип, действие которого сопровождалось только музыкой. Я еще удивился, как музыка хорошо ложится на содержание клипа, в конце которого звучало разочарование, разочарование в глазах мужчины и в музыке, и у меня в душе. Клип показывал какую власть имеют красивые женщины над мужчинами. Вдруг, во время прослушивания песен АВВА произошло какое-то озарение в мозгу. Я вспомнил этот клип и сопровождающую его песню. Песня этого клипа была песня АВВА "Day Before You Cаme". Послушал песню еще раз. Чем больше я её слушал, тем больше мне открывалась вся глубина чувств, которые обуревали Агнету, ведущую певицу группы. Она не играла роль, она пела о своей жизни. Почитал биографию группы. Оказывается песня написана перед самым распадом группы в 1982 году. Немного из биографии группы для понимания и для полноты картины. В 1978 году перед рождеством, Агнета забрала всех двоих детей и ушла из дома, где она жила с мужем, композитором и гитаристом группы, Бьёрном. В конце 1979 года они развелись. Агнета очень переживала развод. Фрида, вторая певица, и Бени, композотор и пианист группы, развелись в 1981 году. Всё трещало по швам. Но группа обещала почитателям продолжать выступления. В этот период Бьёрном написаны самые грустные, лирические песни. The Winner Take It All это любимая песня Агнеты. Бьёрн утверждал, что на самом деле от их развода проиграли все, в нём нет победителей. Затем были написаны песни Thank you for the music, Day Before You Cаme. Веселые, зажигательные песни типа Dancing Queen, Waterloo уже не получались. Агнета и Фрида больше не улыбались на публике. А теперь, собственно, о песне Day Before You Came. О чем эта песня? Если внимательно слушать и смотреть клип, то вся история любви и болезненный развод встают перед глазами. Это пронзительный гимн любви. Глазам певицы и голосу начинаешь верить безоговорочно. Песня женщины, потерявшей любовь. Всё меркнет. В её голосе и тоска, обида и грусть, сожаление. Посмотришь в глаза полные печали и без слов становиться понятно о чём эта песня, какие переживания отражены в них, как в зеркале. Богиня! Другая певица, Фрида, сидя на въезжающем на сцену рояле, подсмеивается над ушедшей любовью, которая разбилась на мелкие кусочки, как хрупкая ваза, упавшая на пол, и которую уже не склеить. От этого смеха становиться еще горче. Трогательно до слёз. Этот хит, мне хочется верить в то, что это хит, их лебединая песня. Посмотрел перевод песни. В песне описывается обычный рабочий день, о том, как девушка доехала до работы, легкий обед китайскими макаронами, семь сигарет после двух часов по полудни, отдых после работы, лежа на софе с невесёлым настроением. Но перед приездом любимого человека должно быть приподнятое, а не унылое настроение. Название песни противоречит настроению. Название должно быть, на мой взгляд, "День после твоего отъезда". Звукооператор рассказывал, как записывалась эта песня. Каждый из группы записывал свою часть отдельно. Агнета, записывала свою часть несколько раз, и каждый раз при исполнении песни у неё текли слёзы, уже погасили свет, а она всё пела и пела. Тот, кто ставит дизлайк этой песне, к сожалению, недооцененной критиками, или сумашедший, или человеконенавистник. АВВА великая гпуппа, её нет уже почти 40 лет, но люди продолжают любить их песни и желают им воссоединения. Было время, когда боги спускались на Землю и пели нам свои песни. Это было 40 лет назад. Такое не повторится, такое бывает только раз в жизни. Это уже классика. Когда слышу музыку АВВА, подсознательно переношусь в дни своей молодости. АВВА это ностальгия по юности, рожденных в 50-60 годах. Если у меня неважное настроение, я включаю последние песни АВВА, и грущу под звуки этой музыки. Я бесконечно рад, что жил во времена, когда творились эти шедевры, и что молодость прошла под их чарующие звуки. Это счастье, которое всегда со мной. Я старею вместе с АВВА. Группа распалась будучи молодой, Агнете было 32, Бени, Фриде, Бьёрну по 37. Фактически всё закончилось в 1981 году. В 1982-м добавили только три песни. Никто из группы больше не хотел совместного пения. Они тащили себя в группу, как на веревке. Закончилась большая любовь. Всё, ребята, каюк. Нет больше теплого, проникновенного голоса Фриды, нет больше хрустального голоса Агнеты, нет больше АВВА. Печально. В 1982 у Бъерна и Бени родились дети от других жён. Группа из-за предательства мужчин уже не могла не распаться. Если бы сейчас объявили, что приезжает к нам АВВА, пошел бы я на их концерт? Ответ да, пошёл. Купил бы я билет по баснословной цене? Да купил

By the time they entered the stage I already knew (or could guess) that this was their last performance ever in Germany. I was 13 back then and did not know (to put it with Abba‘s own words) ‚should I laugh or cry‘. When listening to their unpressed songs like ‚just like that‘ I can only imagine how much of fantastic music we missed due to them splitting up. To me, Abba were and are the greatest musicians of the 20th century, even the Beatles and Elvis Presley run a distant second and third in my memory.

I don't think you would have ever heard of ABBA without the prior influence of the Beatles - the melody genius of Paul McCartney - songs such as "Yesterday", "For No One." "The End," "Golden Slumbers," "Let It Be" and "She's Leaving Home" are songs that paved the way for many of ABBAs' songs building upon the frontier before them. This was the first major songwriting team for the first-generation without the Beatles. ABBA was certainly a great group of talents - and as much as I loved ABBA - they did some great music - but not close to the master of melody - Sir Paul - he didn't earn Nighthood by being second to anyone else.
