Aurora Propagation on 6 Meters

- Examples of aurora propagation on 6 meters during the solar storm on May 10, 2024. You hear how the voice signals have a raspy sound. One of the stations you hear is only about 20 miles from me. As I turn the beam from due north, where the signal is bouncing off the aurora, to where I point the beam in his direction from me you can hear the difference.
I used to work 6 meters extensively during the 70’s. I had a Swan 250 with a 4 element beam. When sporadic E was low, you could always count on an Aurora for contacts. Even during daylight hours. Thanks for sharing this video. 73’s
Amazing, never heard that many daleks at once 73!
Thanks for sharing. I did hear this type of signal distortion here in the UK on the 10th. And yes, bands were dead. But the phone signals came in just like this and I figured it was due to the Aurora conditions but didn’t know why. Thanks for sharing and now wish I would have recorded the QSO. Probably won’t happen again. 72 XYL
Thanks Keith many new amateurs will never know real radio!
It's all real radio. Way to be a sad ham. It's people like you that give the hobby a bad name.
Excellent video, I need to get my signal out on 6m!
What a cool demonstration! As a new amateur radio operator I learned something from this video. And yes, from what I understand the HF bands did get slaughtered by the solar storm. But what I noticed was that the 440 MHz band became much better than normal!
Thank you for sharing this! Im a new ham and looking forward to tonight's storm
well sir you have gained a subscriber... thanks for the timely video.
Thanks for recording this special event! How odd sounding!
Enjoyed your post. I am in Rutherford TN. KO4DUL
Woooowie!! That’s from the Aurora!? I did a band scan on my ATS 120 and it was nuts 🥜!
You were right about the voices. Sounds like the evil supervillain net. 😂
Just found your channel. Great stuff. Subscribed!
Great video , I worked 11 stations all around uk inc Ireland and wales , was definitely a challenge , first time I have seen such propagation on 6m , cheers de 2e0nbk
I liked and subscribed Keith. Thanks for recording your back scatter off the Aurora!
Thank you for sharing this. ND9G.
Great video.
I hadn't heard of this type of signal propagation. The voice really does sound pequliar.
You appear to have found a way to speak directly to Satan.
I’ve done this kind of propagation but n the 49 MHz band. Mind you that 49 MHz is right below the 6 meter band so it is going to behave like the 6 meter band. The call I used was 49-KC9CPX to represent that I was working 49 MHz dx lol. The more storms, the more dx I can do there lol.. the radio I used is a maxon SA49 headset type communicator a lol. And I was extremely qrp too because those walkie don’t use but only 100 MW of power at their highest. Now that’s dx. And that was some years back too so not just recently.
That was pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. De KY4K
Great video. 73s Allen KS4KN Ridgely Tn
I made contact Friday Eve. To. Trinidad and Tobago on 6 with hex beam but without sorethroat lol.
I worked him on 6 meters friday too
Sounds like what voice would be on spark gap if was ever tried back in the day.
Was a good 6 meter antenna
Very interesting. 6M is cool, but openings like this seem so rare!
this was wicked
both as in awesome AND creepy lol
Yep. It was a good time for my 6 meter stuff to be down. Maybe I can catch the next one. Have fun!
Thanks for sharing. I usually don't mess with 6M band due to no antenna, so this is the first time to hear Aurora bounce propagation. 73 de kd5txo
Tu for being on ssb
CQ CQ all Decepticons….
So far, here in NV, I haven't heard a thing on 6m.
Pretty sure that's K0TT responding to me at 1:13
Is this real?
Yes it’s real. I wouldn’t put it on here if it wasn’t real.
