Pendragon is incredible and super underrated. I also really loved the style it was written with the back and forth between Bobby and his friends. Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, and Inheritance Cycle are all staples of my middle and high school years and I loved those stories dearly

Thanks for another great video! My early books were Enid Blyton famous Five and Wishing chair, these were my go round books, i loved the adventures and the magic of the wishing chair and every Christmas I'd get a Rupert the Bear annual, and of course, Narnia, the copies i have date back to the 60's before I was born! Then as i grew older i found point horror, I distinctly remember reading the cheerleader and being terrified lol looking back, not so scary! Then i got a free book with a magazine called Secret Vampire by L.J. Smith (the real one not what happened to her contract and is now a load of ghost writers) and I found I adored supernatural stuff, i devoured this series and its super bitter sweet for me as its the first series that let me down as in the final book was never released, I've done a ton of research and internet searching and pieced together the sad story of her publishers writing out of her own books (the vampire diaries) so i doubt it will ever get finished. I had a long slump after that until i found Harry Potter and it became my whole life, this ensured another slump when it was done until I found Percy Jackson, Eragon, but this time i was in my early 20's and I went on to read Shadowhunters by Cassandra Clare and then I got into the Urban Fantasy, stuff with a dark edge to it, as i was reading my style evolved. @@thedragonsbookden wow, what a journey! That's such a huge bummer about that series being left unfinished :/ but I'm glad you found other things to reignite that love of reading :D
Great video brother! Loved it, this was an awesome idea and so great to you talk about your reading journey again😊 Mine is def Redwall as a kid and then as an adult Repairman Jack and Dresden Files!
I remember picking up eragon and wanting to read but being so dejected about my ability to read 😂😂 it’s so nice to hear how much these influenced you to this day. Attachment to story for me definitely came through tv and movies but I do wish I shared the same appreciation for what books offered when I was younger
I distinctly remember reading stephan kings’ Cell in 4th grade. (Then the Mist & Carrie) And then some forgotten Realms books my dad gave me (Pool of Radiance). Narnia & obviously Harry Potter I had some wild reading taste at 11 Edit: so glad to see you liked Drizzt when you were younger. My dad gave me those to read first. I remember struggling to read “Menzobarranzan” and put it down. I maybe made it 2 pages into Homeland. He then gave me that other forgotten realms book after I bounced off. I later read drizzt in high school and loved them.
“Eventually the day does end when your dad reads to you” got me man. My dad reading to me before bed made me who I am today, too. The Hobbit was the one I remember most clearly. I hope I can have the same impact on my kids!
Great video! I also enjoyed the DDF episode with you. I had never heard of Pendragon, but that would’ve been amazing to discover at a young age. So fascinating how intensely Harry Potter impacted you as a young reader!
A series I read that I’ve not heard mentioned on booktube is the keys to the kingdom series by Garth Nix. Absolutely incredible and was another series like Pendragon that opened my eyes to the sci fantasy universe.
Garth Nix is another Australian writer, I rarely hear mentioned on UA-cam. I read his The Left-handed Booksellers of London and The Sinister Booksellers of Bath a couple of years ago. Even though they are aimed at young adults I found them loads of fun.You should check out his books set in the Old Kingdom, agai. YA, but should be right up your alley. 💜
Yessss! A Series of Unfortunate Events is what sparked my love for reading, I also didn’t finish it until I was an adult and the Netflix series came out. I think you’re talking about the Accelerated Reader program??? I was so obsessed with earning those points! It came back to bite me though because I didn’t realize the top three students would be recognized in front of the whole school. I was extremely shy and thought I was going to die when they called my name and I had to walk up on stage haha
Congrats on passing 2K subscribers! I mentioned this in my comment on your Legend of Drizzt video, but those books were instrumental in inspiring my love of reading. We had to do oral book reports in my freshman english class. I was so petrified while speaking in front of everyone that my teacher allowed me to give my book reports off to the side of the class with him, if I agreed to do two book reports for everyone one that was assigned. I randomly started with book two of The Hunter's Blades trilogy, but as luck would have it the kid who sat behind me owned every book in the series except that one. So we swapped and I got swept away into Faerun. The stars really aligned on that one! 😄

Love this video. Books we read as kids are so instrumental to what we become! My first fantasy was Narnia, also a first book that made me cry. Also, Mio, My Son by Astrid Lindgren. Not something very well known here in North America, but very much in the zeitgeist where I grew up.
