Americo Vespuci fue un florentino nacionalizado español, que viajó en barcos españoles, con capitanes españoles y tuvo la oportunidad de ver el Nuevo Mundo y contarlo. Los italianos nunca hubieran podido llegar a América porque sus barcos, galeazas y barcos de carga solo podían navegar por el Mediterráneo. En Italia no había carabelas.
