I visit Windsor with some frequency. Windsor is a very pleasant town and worth a visit. There has been some decline in the past couple of years, but the town is relatively stable when compared to other towns in this part of the state. It definitely is not so far gone that it cannot be saved and even improved. There is a lot of potential there, and its location on the beautiful Cashie River is advantageous. It has many beautiful, well-maintained homes and is a delight to stroll. You are also correct in that the county is pronounced "Ber-TEE". There are good restaurants and a local hardware store only a block or two farther from where you stopped recording on Granville Street.
In response to your question, I have stayed in the town's Treehouse Village and highly recommend. These are actual well-built, roofed treehouses located in the branches of a riverfront forest. Each of the four treehouses is equipped with electricity, tables, chairs, sleeping platforms, porches, etc. The trunks of trees actually pass right through the house. It is a true delight to stay in one. The treehouses are accessible via a raised boardwalk, so you don't have to climb a tree to enter the treehouse. Reservations can be made on the Town of Windsor website, which also offers RV and tent sites. The Treehouse Village and campground share a common, well maintained bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets. The village and campground is only about a 25 minute walk from the center of downtown.

I think I speak for most North Carolinians.
Our little towns may not be perfect, but to us, they are.
    Great job....

Both sets of grandparents lived in Bertie Country, so we visited Windsor fairly often when I was growing up. So glad to see Bunn's Bar-B-Q is still there in that same old gas station! I LOVED their bar-b-que best of any! The place was pretty dumpy when I was a little kid; every restaurant in a small town was. This was back in the late 60's-70's. I'm sure it's nicer now. I'd love some now.

I figured they had some good Bar-B-Q. Now I’m hungry 🤣
Thanks for the post and restaurant tip 👍

Yall missed the lil zoo and if ya kept walking up 17 towards the sun (lol) you would have seen our old church’s and the landing site of ships during the civil war.
The sites you seen where the buildings are torn down are by FEMA do to flooding.
