American Owners: Are they a THREAT to British Football?

- Tom Brady, Rob McElhenney, David Beckham - three names more synonymous with the Hollywood elite than Monday night League One football. But all three were in attendance for last week's game dubbed the Hollywood Owner's Derby - Birmingham City vs Wrexham at St Andrew's. We went along to talk to fans and ask them - have their American ownerships helped to progress their clubs or are those at the top just looking to turn a profit?

For Birmingham, the owners have been quick-acting, engaging and open from the very start. the fans are fully on board with what the owners are trying to do. They've invested in the infrastructure, the personnel, they've significantly boosted the revenue and commercial activities without ripping off fans and the end goal is to not only transform the club to one that sits proudly at the top table competing amongst the elite, but also transform and regenerate East Birmingham to the tune of £2-3 billion. They're truly backing the club and in turn the fans have responded, whereas before there was deep-seated apathy and hopelessness

Nevile has such an issue with US ownership but shows up in the BCFC V Wrexham match and then decides to start another show to tap into the US market.
Yes Knightshead might have seen Birmingham city as business venture..Still do..But the difference is Tom Wagner has fallen in love with the club...Loves the passion the fans have for the club & gives it back in return....Best thing that's happened to Birmingham city...!!!

The current US ownership at BCFC has gone strength to strength despite relegation last season. Wagner & Knighthead had poured so much effort and enthusiasm in improving the ground and infrastructure giving it a massive lease of life bringing many lifelong Blues fans back after many years away. I know because I'm one of them, returning to St Andrews after 22 years. Boy I loved it. There's so much positivity about the place that the previous owners couldn't generate. Yes, they have clout but the Americans can turn a football club round by giving the fans what they deserve no matter what division they're in.
Deep down, I do NOT want to see any other British club, that's including Scotland and Ireland as well as in Europe owned by any Chinese establishment ever again. They literally sucked the soul out of Birmingham City with their constant assurances and their shambolic decision making. The game in Britain and Europe have moved on in the 20th century and every club need careful consideration of who their next owners might be. And never trust the Chinese.
I am into my 60s now and i intend to visit St Andrews once again this season and I vow to be around when the proposed new stadium nearby is built hopefully before I'm 70. Already, the Blues are riding high in League One and will no doubt return to the Championship next season when our quest to return to the Premier League after many years will be a sterner test. I'm sure we will challenging for promotion rather than languishing in the bottom third of the League. Winning some silverwear especially the FA Cup will be an added bonus but deep down I rather see a sense of a long lasting stability at my beloved football club that was sadly lacking in recent years.
Football culture have moved on over the years especially the way the clubs are being run.
There is no ceiling for either club really. Birmingham's potential is limitless, naturally, and if Wrexham are seen as The North Wales' team, where is their ceiling

Wrexham is the only professional football club in North Wales, a population of 750k people. The potential is huge. This is why they chose Wrexham

i think the thing with north american owners specifically is that there are a lot of eyes on them and they can’t necessarily get away with shady business practices as easily. i say this as an american fan of wrexham who genuinely believes the owners care about the club
As a Canadian Sunderland fan I would say that any owner can be good and bad. Currently Sunderland is owned by French guy, before that a bit of a dodgy Englishman and before that an American who wanted to win and thought money was the only way to do that.
Team ownership is tricky, it takes a lot of money and time and owners who are only looking to make a quick pound are not in the best interests of the team no matter where they are from.
The key to it is who do they surround themselves with, are the leadership able to whether fans outrage and still get things mostly right.
Too frequently there is this concept in the UK, that screams a bit of Brexit, that international owners and fans are to blame for the problems in the leagues. The leagues had issues long before international owners, and the money in modern Football forces a lot of focus away from simply 3pm on a Saturday vibe. The only way you get that back is IF the Premier League falls flat, has more bankruptcies and financial chaos which forces the league to back pedal from the over spending and support for those teams both local and international flags.
Or you have the government intervene and force a German style system that seems to put 1 and occasionally 2 teams at the top of the pyramid to the determent of everyone else.
Luton spent a lot of money more than the had look where that has got them now back in the championship straddling.
