  • #Roobert33 The motors with brushes at 110V and 230V are able to rotate in DC and also at low voltage. The batteries to power the motor in this experiment are 3.7V Lithium-ion type and connected in series. The motor rotation time at maximum speed it was 23 actual minutes + 18 minutes of gradual discharge. This experiment is only for demonstration and curiosity, but it can also be a fun way to replicate..

Yup, washing machines typically use universal motors, meaning they can operate on AC or DC (the brushes commutate to create AC with polarity reversals). When you connect the ammeter, we see that when going up from 0V to 4/8/12V the current decreases from ~0.7A to around 0.5A, and when going down from 12V to 8/4V the current increases from a low 0.35A to around 0.5A. When the fan is added as a load, the steady-state RPM is lower, so the current is higher.
This demonstrates Lenz's law. The stator generates a static magnetic field and the rotor passes across it. The faster this happens, the more counter-voltage is produced. Universal motors are always running as generators simultaneously, so they are self regulators that reduce torque as speed increases. For this reason, you don't need any electronics to control the motor, but you are always a victim of Lenz's law as generator action always attempts to counteract motor action. For constant voltage power supplies, the effective motor voltage is Vsource - Vbackemf, where Vbackemf is the generator voltage produced by Lenz's law in the opposite direction of the applied voltage.
Some different configurations you could try are running a constant current through the stator coil and connecting the field coils on the rotor to a bridge rectifier. This would make an alternator, as you spin the shaft with another motor, you convert mechanical power to electrical power in the field windings using Lenz's law. You can adjust the speed by adjusting the current through the stator windings. Observe what happens to RPM when the stator current reaches 0A.

What type of switch is that , I want to build an electric bicycle with this motor and I need a switch that can handle 120v , I’ll see how gearing ratio goes and power is and if I need more I will possibly try to give more voltage then the 120v , I just need some type of switch that will act as a throttle so I can smoothly apply voltage to accelerate safely for the motors sake and not just dump full voltage into it from only on /off switch

    Question :
by putting 12v. to a motor that runs on 220v,
Do the engine specifications go down?
    like watts? or the revolutions?
In the beginning the engine says it is 220v, 300w.
with 12v how would it be?
    same ?

Very good video, I like it very much !!!
Did you connect the field coils and the brushes armature in parallel ?
I ask you because if the answer is yes (and that´s the most probably), this arrangement can be used only with low voltage.
If you apply the parallel arrangement of field coils and brushes armature with high voltage (let´s say from 30 volts and up) the fiels coils will burn pretty soon because they´re not designed to handle high amperage.
Please correct me if I´m wrong !!!
    Thanks !!!

Thanks Manick, we built several brush-less motors, Coiled wire mag train and coiled magnet for his science fair projects coming up. He understands it all and is very interested in the mechanical aspects of it. A few years ago we built a Van de Graaff generator and he got a little shock from it, so he a little cautious when he see sparks. Thanks again.

I didn't record any of my work Manick, just looking to show my son how to make things work. He plays 0 video games.
They have wind turbines at the base of power plants smoke stacks. The height of the stacks creates a natural draft 24/7 and spins the turbine generator. They add that power to the grid. They have wind turbines at car washer to dry off your car, might be able to get one cheap, used. Unless your talking about the ones that have "For Sale" signs that spin. That's nice.

@@tonymazzbo2731 I am based in the Caribbean. No chance of getting any thing cheap.
Some time ago I did some investigation on solar panels leading to the charging of a car battery. I did a calculations video on that too but that one is a bit involved. The conclusion I came to is no MPPT controller is needed if the solar panels are matched reasonably with the battery and they are way smaller in capacity. If you are interested I can send you the link to the video series. Its not complex or expensive to replicate and is a good experiment to do with your son.
I have a solar water heater mostly done. Just need to fix some leaks on the welding of the tank and plumb. I will put that video series up when I finish.
The wind energy is the third thing I want to investigate. At times it can be quite strong where I am. I am tending towards a vertical shaft type system since I think its easier to build (no complex blade shape). I intend to start off with a small dodgy prototype to see what is the output voltage compared to the RPM. From there I will determine the gearing I need and try a more serious investigation.
