Hello from Texas. Looks like your doing a great job! I am currently taking my second try at rooting persimmons. Last year I tried to graft wild persimmon and it failed to take so I removed the small piece of scion wood from the graft. A small scratch revealed it was still alive so I buried it like I do dormant grape cuttings. Weeks later in
Please post an update! I enjoyed watching your video, and would like to know if your success continues beyond what I saw. I found some wild persimmon trees, and I would love to have a couple trees growing in my yard. Thank you for sharing!
ya, i did the same before using other fruit cuttings.. they all shoot out leaves, but no root. no root even after a long time and finally the leaves wilt and died.. just like what Daniel said below.. that's what i believe as well. maybe u can try with wild species of persimmon , wild species is more capable of rooting.. then u graft it with the variety you like.. it will takes 2 to 3 years . if you are lucky.. just go and buy one plant.... time is actually more expensive than a few cheap piece of paper.
My observation is than only when the cutting begins to "push" new growth 2-3 inches, is it rooted. Your humidity chamber is ideal to help maintain homeostasis while the cuttings callous and root. I'm currently trying to root American persimmon from hardwood cuttings and one root cutting. There is very little information on this process so you and I are the experts. Let me know how it goes.
persimmons won't root from cuttings they must be grafted, grown from seeds, or roots. the leafs are pushing out because of stored sugars in the cutting once the cutting has used up the sugars it will die.
Two of my trees came from rooted cuttings. I did it early in the springtime with a rooting gel, not powder. The pots were always on top of a warmer. Of course, I was not always successful. Only two out of ten cuttings rooted.
Weeks later I dug it up and the root end was calloused and small leaves were forming. I rushed to plant it and it died. Grape cuttings can maintain leaf bud without roots for weeks but will die quickly if exposed to too much heat and sun.
I disagree with Daniel's comment that you can't root persimmon from cuttings. I've seen at least one cutting callous and if they can callous, they probably can root under the right conditions.
I think it would have helped if you had Uncovered the cuttings a few minutes Each day thereby giving the cuttings a "breath" of air (CO2). Plants intake CO2 and give off oxygen. What do you think?
Great video! I am lazy, so I put mine on the window sill but block direct sun light off. Works the same. :)

Thanks, kabayan. I love persimmons, too. I will do this, too.

Very informative! Thank you! :)
Update video please! Im going to get some persimmon cuttings from a neighbor tomorrow and try to root them!
already 3 years.. and still no update. most probably means failure to root..

Is this a Texas variety? I've never seen any persimmons propagated from cuttings or layering.

¿Funcionó?
So simple!
Do you know if they will grow from air layering?
My name is John Barnett and I live in Midlothian, Texas.
