Sorry in advance, there's two parts that got claimed for music that I used UA-cam's "mute song" option, my mic will sound a bit trash during those parts. It was also during the most emotional part I let the video/song play for like a minute straight to keep in the face reaction even though I wasn't saying anything there. Also Crunchyroll had this in dub without subtitle so I couldn't read the signs/notes, so that's why it got switched to subbed shortly after. This was a fire idea for a plot and entertaining all the way through. I'm pretty resistant to lovey/sad scene actually making me sad. Most of the time it's obvious the show is telling the audience to be sad right now, based off the music and characters crying. But I teared up here because this movie kinda wasn't telling you to be sad or anything like that, it was just telling the story. I was holding on to hope that his name was still on her hand, so when she opens her hand up it was kinda like a punch in the face for me that threw me off because of the timing of it and situation they're in. It also made me drop the hope I was holding on to of them remembering, so I just had to shut up and watch what happens now. Of course my logical brain thought up some plot holes with the whole time thing, but for the sake of telling a good story some plot holes can be ignored. This was fire! Thanks for voting it on VCF! Spoiler Alert: As you saw in the end they finally got together in April 2022 (for Taki it was around 5 years of wait since 2016 whereas for Mitsuha it was around 8 years since 2013) and the director Makoto Shinkai who wrote it too confirmed that after meeting in 2022 they started dating and later on got married. The director made another film after this called 'Weathering With You' and there both make a really small cameo and it's so small that you can pretty much miss them if you don't remember what they looked like as adults
I think you might be the first reactor I have seen that realized he knew his name would disappear if he wrote it in her hand And by the time we see the 5 year jump, we do know that she is alive, has forgotten him but has the same sense of something missing in her life that she is always searching for that he does, because they tell us that in the opening credits.
Your reaction was about the best one I have seen, and I've watched lots of them since Your Name is my favorite film. It was good that you paused the film to think and comment because this film has about a dozen different mysteries and realizations that get revealed much later. But you got all of them, including one where Mitsuha wakes up in the cave where Taki drank the saki actually remembers her own death! And when you were silent during the "I love you" on the hand scene, your silence said it all. It is about the most replayed scene is the movie and in reactions to the movie. Keep up the good work! If you do decide to watch "Weathering with You", the next film by the same director, watch for cameos by Mitsuha and Taki. They appear in the film, but they are not yet together. This is during the 5-year period after the comet destroyed Itomori, but before they meet on the staircase. In fact it is supposed to be about one year before the staircase meeting. So we can assume that at the time they appear in Weathering with You, both Taki and Mitsuha are waking up crying sometimes, not knowing why. Yet they both seem to be quite happy with their lives. That just goes to show that outward appearance do not always reveal an inner turmoil.
This movie is the reason why I decided to start watching anime. It could be awesome too have like an anime short showing Taki and Mitsuha's wedding and some things they did together after they met at the stairs.❤❤
