- Hi All! In todays session of mixed media art journaling we are testing out Seth Apters New Izink Sprays! We spend some time testing the Izink's on a variety of different papers, creating some bases for future mark making. We also finish another collage page in our Gelli Junkadori art journal! Enjoy :)

I too am totally loving Seth Apter's new colors of Izink sprays. I had really been hoping for a silver and a bronze spray, and Seth did not disappoint. I was surprised how much I love the rusty saffron and the butterscotch colors. However, my absolute favorite is the Morning Mist color. It seems to go with just about everything, and it suits my blue loving and gray loving soul to a T. Thanks as always for demonstrating techniques for making papers and sharing ways to work in your art journal.

I really loved the simplicity of scrunching up the tissue and dabbing it onto the sprayed inks. Such a great look. What a bonus to be able to take colours like the butterscotch and mix it to obtain tertiary colours. Thank you once again for sharing 😄

I had not seen that Seth had released new colors, so glad I stopped by here to see them. That butterscotch is going to be very useful. I don't tend to use yellow very often, but after seeing you mix it into other colors I see that I do need that one. He has a very deep rich brown in the collection (coffe, I think) that I love, but it is such an intense color that I haven't used it alot. I think the butterscotch is perfect, I can desaturate the brown without washing the color out. TFS

Thanks Robyn. I have a couple of questions. In the space of a few minutes I saw you use three different glues. When do you choose what? Do you ever use Matt medium or soft gel medium when you collage for salable work? Do you use stick glues in salable paintings? I don’t create books but I do use your techniques in my mixed media collage paintings.
I used UHU for nearly 20 years before they changed their formula and never had any collage papers peel off, change color, or get ugly. Granted, everything is in art journals so out of the light and all that. I'm still searching for an alternative and have gone back to YES paste which is trusted by professional collage artists. Acrylic mediums are great but messy and hard to work with since papers wrinkle, bubble, and stretch. When I was using acrylic mediums I used Golden Extra Heavy Gel because it is almost a paste. Remember, you can finish your collage pages with varnish, medium, or cold wax to add extra protection.
Susan, Robert Burridge recently posted that YES! Paste yellows over time and is no longer recommended. I’m not sure if you knew that. I do use varnish on my work. I just wanted to make sure UHU could be used on a salable piece.
@@summerrobertson3595 I haven't followed Bob in years. Does the yellow leech through papers or just when it's on top of papers or exposed to light. I know to trust him at the same time YES paste was accepted by museums all over the world because of long term hold.

Stop the Presses! Now, published experts and experienced collage artists are claiming their Yes Glue assemblages over time DO turn brownish! Yes Glue is NOT archival as claimed. Ann Baldwin, award winning collage artist has stated, “it may not be the great idea we once thought it was.” So I’m changing my mind and switching “everything collage” back to Golden’s Soft Gel Medium or Heavy Gel Matte Medium. Polyvinyl Alcohol Adhesive (PVA) is my other favorite adhesive. It stays flexible and clear.
Hey Summer good question! UHU for thin papers because it glides easy and is strong. Giotto for thicker papers or fabrics. PVA glue for extra thick fabric, paper, or embellishments (tags, feathers etc) Holds items in place well, dries quickly and is archival. For salable work I would use all three for the same reasons. In my experience they are all quality.

Hi! Have you tried searching for "archival" or "Acid free" tissue papers? These would be the equivalent to glassine 😊

I have a question Robyn, I hope won't sound too off the wall for you. I struggle with what to put next to each other when gluing down papers to collage. Any suggestions?? Is it just practice, you seem to do it so naturally. Thanks for reading this. 😊
I can def do a video on this 🤗 but in short I usually have A) a theme in mind B) have a color palette in mind C) I'm looking at balance i.e. big to small ratio, the amount of items, I like odd numbers etc. This helps me to pick cohesive papers when collaging!
