Dream theater is such an apt name, because that entire song felt dreamlike. Labrie has such a great voice, but it is the instrumentals that always amaze.
Saw them live on this tour. My favorite band and have been for 30 years. Just so good.
They are such phenomenal musicians. I'm thankful this band exists. 🤘🤘
Love Dream Theater ❤️
I’m so glad you reacted to Dream Theater greats there talent is off the charts it won’t get know better than this talent wise
I plan on doing the entire Metropolis Part 2 soon.
the drummer is Mike Mangini and he is an ambidextrous beast
I've been a fan of DT since 1992. Images and Words was a real game changer. It flipped the music world upside down.
That time, 91-93 there was such an enormous flip in music overall: Grunge movement, Metallica's Back Album, Halford and Dickenson leaving Priest and Maiden. The rise of industrial metal bands. Then we had Dream Theater blowing our minds and opening the door to what you can do with prog! What a time that was! 🤘❤️🤘
That's so true!!
This band is so awesome, can't wait to see them in October live in Berlin together with Mike Portnoy back on drums. Would really appreciate you doing more stuff from them, I would recommend apart from Metropolis Pt 2 (actually full album!): 1st "The Count of Tuscany" 2nd "A Change of Seasons" 3rd "The Dance of Eternity" 4th "The best of times"...so many other phenomenal songs...thanks and greetings from Germany!
Yeah, man. I am going to dive into the full album Metropolis Part 2 song by song. Stay tuned, brother!
+1 for metropolis pt 2.
It's probably my favorite Dream Theater album
Images and Words is still undefeated as their best album IMO. I have an unused ticket for the Images and Words tour in 1992. I’m still kicking myself for that one. It’s a long sad story. 😂
Sorry to hear of that, my brother. That does suck. I hope you got to see them live since?
I love everything from Dream Theater but Octavarium is a MUST!
I'll add that to my list. Thank you!
Dream Theater lineup in the video, and for the past 13 years:
- James Labrie, vocals
- John Petrucci, guitar
- James Myung, bass
- Mike Mangini, drums (Steve Vai, Extreme, Annihilator, James LaBrie, Tribe of Judah, Dave Reffett, G3, Dream Theater)
- Jordan Rudess, keyboard (Liquid Tension Experiment)

Me and my youngest son ( a huge DT fan as well) watched these audition weekly to find out WHO would replace Mike Portnoy. Mike Mangini was definitely the perfect choice. I'm however so grateful that Mike is back in DT. I've seen DT live 11 times, 4 times with Portnoy and 7 times with Mangini.
First, let me thank you for all the info and the links! I really appreciate that. Secondly, I can't tell you how lucky you are to have seen them so many times. Amazing! My oldest son is a fan, too. When he started learning guitar he started with Rush and jumped right to DT! He is my stepson (I have two) so this phase of his life was before I entered the picture. Otherwise, I would have become much more familiar with them much earlier on. Better late than never!
@@BemusingBillI really hope that You and your son get the opportunity during 2024 to see them in the US. They are in the progress of recording the next album at this moment. Hopefully followed up with a tour later this year. Of course, now with Mike Portnoy back behind the drums.
Count of Tuscany!
If you can check out Alien you know they won a Grammy with it
No I didn't know that. Thank you!
Distant Memories is the tour. This is from the 2019 album Distance Over Time. So cool that your girlfriend's band opened for Meanstreak back in the day. They just reunited in 2023 after almost 30 years to open for Petrucci's solo tour and it was fantastic. They also just released an EP a couple weeks ago. 🤘
This song is about the aftermath of rape where the victim is going through all this internal turmoil and her partner is trying to help her through it, but she is not able to cope with the trauma and keeps shutting him out ("don't leave me now...")
If you do metropolis pt 2, there are a few songs from specific concerts u should do...beyond this life from live at budokan, spirit carries on from score, and finally free from live scenes from new york
Good to know! I really appreciate that! Thank you 🤘❤️🤘
You should definitely do Metropolis pt 2. I've heard it like 100 times but i'm excited to listen to it once more with you... That's how good this album is. Great reaction :)
Thank you! I can't wait for that!
Incredible song. The only group that can keep them out of being my #1 is VH.
Scenes from a Memory is definitely a single-sitting listen. though, i wouldn't be upset if you chopped the video up and dribbled it out (just to maximize your view count and watch time)
The song of theirs that literally changed my life was _A Change of Seasons_ (from the EP of the same name) ... be warned, it's 23 minutes, but worth every second. (btw, 1 feature of Portnoy coming back is also getting his song writing, which was always my favorite of any of the members)
also, watching Jordan bust out the keytar and walk over to duel with John is always a fun treat (he didn't do it here, but it is a staple of their live shows)
I would love to do every wonderful second of Change of Seasons! I can't wait to see Jordan on the keytar, too! Thank you! 🤘❤️🤘
Drummer Mike Mangini is in my opinion a better drummer than Portnoy he is by far more technically sound he is one of the best in the world
Maybe they can do a drum battle! Thay would be epic!
