Bought my 97 TJ Sahara in 98 w/8k on it. Still driving it today. Believe it or not... never had a problem with the engine. Replace the radiator once and "NEVER" aligned the front end. Each time I'd take it in, they'd say it doesn't need it. FYI it's 218,000 original miles. Last year I installed OX lockers up front and Dana truetrac rear. Paint /interior this year... Hopefully. Only off rd for my job on water pipelines. Imo.... best American made vehicle ever!
Have the same exact year and color Jeep, mines in very good shape also but I’m replacing the frame soon because of rust but the outside is still looking awesome
I have a 97 TJ with the 2.5 manual shift. Love the jeep and have no intention of ever selling it. My oil pressure drops in the summer months below 20. It use to bother me but it’s quite common. As they say “it’s a jeep thing”.
I'm in the process of getting another Jeep. I had a 65 CJ project but had to get rid of it because there was just no money or time for it with kids and all. Now the kids are grown and I can finally get another Jeep. Hopefully I can find one in good shape too.
I’m an original owner of a ‘97 TJ Sport…in same Flame Red. I “special ordered” mine in early 1997 from Greenbrier Jeep in Chesapeake VA….and did so because they brought back the “round eye” look (no hate meant on YJs…I just think Jeeps should have round headlights!). My Moroni sticker even says “Specially made for ‘me’”. Mine has 146k+ on the clock…all three children learned “stick” on her…and while I’ve had numerous offers, I just can’t muster the heart to part with her. I own a 2020 Tacoma, my wife’s Subaru, and my other toy is a Porsche. Still, I do so love driving the Jeep. I’m considering selling the Porsche, and using that money to pay for a complete professional restoration of the TJ (still researching options on that). I had two careers: Navy, and then federal law enforcement….my Jeep has been up and down, down and up the coast from Georgia to Maine. Too many great stories to tell with my Jeep. I wish you luck as you work on yours, amigo!
Nice Jeep. Mine is just like it but in Patriot Blue. I think the low oil pressure at idle in the summer time may be a common issue with these. A couple years ago I changed out the oil press sending unit, and it helped. It no longer gives me an audible warning while idling at a stop light, but the oil pressure still seems to be pretty low. I don't know if its a problem, or if that's just the way these 4.0s are. I've driven it for 75K miles, and it has 203,000 on it now, and the oil pressure has always been that way. Thanks for the video.
I read the other day that where the oil pressure sensor threads in can get clogged up a little. I used a small pipe cleaner and cleaned that out the other day. However we have not had any real warm days since, so I am not sure if it made a difference or not. I will know this summer.
Very good video, I had the same trouble with my shift knob being impossible tight. My solution was to use an oil filter strap wrench. It worked and I didn't destroy my original shift knob. I know it's to late for yours but maybe this tip could help someone else. PS I have the 2000 wrangler TJ.
Hey Charles. I tried the oil filter strap and it still would not budge. So I resorted to destroying it, sad. Someone was in here before me. In the current video I am working on I realized that the boot for the trans tunnel was on wrong. So maybe someone had the shifter knob off at one point and decided to really tighten that bolt when they put it back together  2000 TJ.. Nice!! Where do you like to go 4 wheeling?
I have had one 27 years and climbing. I have no desire to own the ugly, over engineered, flimsy, plastic clad, status quo, novelty laiden, junk of today. I will likely drive my dear RMS Stargazer for the remainder of my life. I am certain I can get another 35 years from her. After that, my ride will be a hearse.
I think I got lucky with what I paid. Couple had for a short bit and then a baby came along, so they needed to get rid of it to buy something more family friendly. I check Facebook market place and Craig's list locally and 97's are going for around 6-7k now.
Had one just like that one. Same year, color, and all. Ours came with the "spice" colored soft top. Great Jeep. Bought it brand new off the lot
Very cool!

Yep. Replaced the radiator in my 97 and 99. Headers in both too. Both cracked
Cool
hello from France..TJ for all))
He from Colorado.
I had a ‘91 “Wrongler” with the square headlights, now I have a 2010 JK Rubi and a 2016 JKU 75th Anniversary. Love the 4.0s, so easy to work on.
Yes and that 4.0 is so reliable.
Have the same exact year and color Jeep, mines in very good shape also but I’m replacing the frame soon because of rust but the outside is still looking awesome
Have you started on the frame yet?
Nice Jeep. I have owned my 2002 TJ for around 17 or 18 years. I'm running a 4" lift and 35's.
Thanks. I may get a lift one of these days.
I got a little red 97 just like it love it
Nice!!

I remember the first time it dropped. Had me a little worried. Just like you I am now use to it.
11-15 psi is enough really but I do run thicker oil in summer months. Just cuz I idle a lot in the woods
Nice jeep
Thanks 👍

Terry, good luck in your search. I hope to find a project Jeep to work on and make content with :-)
Very little rust really great find
Yes we are lucky here in Colorado.

I wish I still had my original Jeep, but a family with kids it was just not practical to get around in.
