  • Avoid the frustration of entering each contact one by one and use the HamLog app to create a csv file to upload directly to the SOTA website. In this how to video, I show you a step by step process to get your contacts uploaded with ease.
Be sure to check out my website at kg6hqd.us for the "HQD" approved gear and I hope to work you on a summit one day soon while activating for Summits On The Air.

If you have another way to upload your contacts let us know in the comments below? Please include your call sign if you have one and if we've worked a SOTA peak before. 73 - KG6HQD

Thanks Jerry. After seeing your video I also downloaded the 73 hamlog and used it to log my recent (today) SOTA activation. It worked great. Then used your video to upload/import my log to SOTA. Piece of cake. Thanks again and 73's. Tim K5DEZ

Awesome tutorial! It would be cool if you made a video about safety tips for hiking for us new guys. Thanks

Hi Tony, that’s a good idea. I haven’t really touched on what my safety protocols are yet and considering a large basis for ham radio is a safety net I think I should share. Just added the topic to my video to do list. If you have something specific in mind let me know so I can address it.

You’re welcome and you are so right on the lack of info for us. I hope to bridge that gap as much as I can. Thanks for checking out my channel. Feel free to make topic requests too as I like the challenge.

Jerry, these videos are great, and I am learning a lot. If you ever run short of ideas, could you do a segment on how to set-up APRS on the VX-8dr? I am using APRS on the iPad, but have no idea how to do the set-up for the Yaesu. K5TGS

Great video Jerry. Do you know if that ADIF will upload into ARRL’s LOTW?

    • @KG6HQDJerrySOTA
      @KG6HQDJerrySOTA  6 років тому

Hi Tim, I don’t know but would think the ADIF files are pretty interchangeable. I struggled with LOTW back in the day and gave up on it. The file exports in either CSV or ADIF from SOTA Goat app so I bet it would work if that’s all LOTW needs.

I would like to see overall features. I know you can see what peaks are near you. I’m not sure if you can post your spot when ready to transmit.

Ok, I have a few ideas on how to make a series on the topic so you can search for the one you need. APRS is a game changer doing SOTA for spotting for sure. The short answer is YES, once I’m all setup I post a spot to APRS2SOTA with my summit ID and freq info and then the calls come in very quick so be setup first.

Great tutorial as usual Jerry. I love Ham Log. It has sooo many features and tools. Have you ever done a tutorial on sota goat app?

Noel Pagan Hi Noel, I have not but I can if you’d like. Love that app! I wish it had just a few more features but it’s pretty good overall. What would you like to see shown if I were to do a video on it?

    Hi Jerry,
Very easy to understand instructions. While I don't hike, hope to one day get you in my log. 73 WB3BJU

Donald D'Egidio thanks Don. Also, thanks for adding you name and call sign for everybody. Whether you hike to activate or you are a chaser you’re just as important. No activating being done without chasers so thank you for helping us all out.
I’m headed back out this Monday for another activation if you are able to find me on the air. What state are you in?

      Hi Jerry,
In PA just west of Philly. When the first nor'easter came through about a month ago, it brought down my wire antenna that I use for most of the low bands. I have a triband yagi for the upper bands. The snowfall from the second and fourth storms left my back in much pain. Once my back recovers, I'll get the wire antenna repaired. I'll get on the SOTA website and watch for spots for some receive practice. 73 WB3BJU

Hey Jared thanks for the comment and love my Mac. I did have it when I was using my iMac connected to my IC-706MKiig but I don’t use it anymore. I do think it’s a much better program than Hamlog for many reasons if using it to interface and log on base station.
