+BackyardBowyer Thanks Nick. I have really been enjoying your knife videos. Love the direction you are going with your channel. I wish I was able to shoot one of those deer at the end of this video but they came out of their beds at a full run and didn't present a good shot.
Those things look sharp, Shawn! Great use of buckskin. Those will hold up well for you and as you know..they make great stalkers! Good luck with your hunting, Man!......Ben
Those really turned out great Shawn! I made a pair of Eastern Woodland pucker toe moccasins 2 years ago and they're still going strong. I also have received a brain tanned hide from Ben, and I can attest to quality of his work. Ben makes the best brain tanned hides on the tube. Thanks for sharing your project with us!! Take care.
I made a pair of winter cottage slippers from an old leather coat. I cut the leather go fit over a pair of wool boot liners. The pattern I came up with was more of a sole onto an upper, but they worked amazingly, and lasted for years, even with some outside winter use. They looked a little like these, but obviously much thicker
Nice work Shawn. I have been wanting to make myself a pair for awhile. Haven t had the time to do the research, so this video is just what I need to get my but moving on this project.
I remember reading about life for homesteaders in northern Texas from 1900 to the 1970s and the immigrant people in this ranching and farming community of Norwegians, Mexicans, and other Asians and Europeans helped each other out and built a little town, churches and schools to send their kids. The ranchers hunted a lot of deer, along with raising sheep, pigs, chickens and cattle and a lot of families made buckskin clothes and moccasins for the kids, along with homespun cotton and wool cloth for shirts, pants and underwear. Later, in the 1950s, some kids got teased for wearing these range-made clothes and shoes (along with Davy Crockett raccoon skin hats) and the practice of crafting such buckskin clothes for the kids died off, but some families kept it up.
Very cool. I'm surprised to hear that you found them so durable. I've read that aboriginals would usually carry several pairs on a hunt since they wore out so quickly.
Very interesting and well done video. I was wondering if they would be more comfortable to wear with the seam side out. Admittedly, they wouldn't look as good.
Did'nt you consider making it a bit bigger for an eventual sock (or grass if you wanna go 100% primitive) ? And when you run you do not have any problems of a too little size ? Great video !!!
Reminds me of a leather sock, i cant say anything negative since you are getting deer and im not. As well, me congratulating you would be meaningless because I have no experience in this matter and it should be you congratulating me for taking time out of my life to learn a skill from you. So thus I have concluded that I will thank you for taking time out of your life to make this; not just for your immediate fan base, but for a mix of both thankful and unthankful people of whom I choose to be part of the thankful. You have a good day, and I wish you much good favor on your future endeavors of harvesting animals for eating, and harvesting their skin to make more items which to kill their friends and family. Good night.
Leather is not water proof, the smoking is mostly for rotting resistance. Also even with a waterproof material those stitches are not waterproof. For water proof seek info on Eskimo clothing and stitching techniques as they made waterproof garments out of gut of various large animals.
Awesome video and good job on the moccasins! Also, very impressive stalking.

Thanks so much for sharing this. How well did they hold up?
Absolutely awesome sir!! Thank you
Very cool. I'm surprised to hear that you found them so durable. I've read that aboriginals would usually carry several pairs on a hunt since they wore out so quickly.

Nice job. Looks comfortable too
Love this video.

Very cool thanks for the knowledge, just curious why did you do hair side out?

Great video !!!
Cool! Now I want to make some lol! Great video thanks!
That’s for your idea I found a easy way to use it
Nice video as always.Just out of curiosity,,does the smell of campfire smoke create scent problems for hunting?
What were you wearing on your feet in the beggining of the video
I've always wanted a pair, thanks for a easy pattern ...
..bill
im going to use this info, thank you sean. im looking forward to wearing homemeade hunting moccasins.
big feet!
Could you show me how to make these but a lot higher? Below the knee
How warm are these for winter time?
Can’t wait to wear those when it’s 15° outside and I’m hunting for three hours
Very cool! I would be afraid of cactus! LOL!!
+ThunderMountain Tactical Very true. Lucky for me we don't have cactus where I hunt.
Is tribe of Benjamin still on you tube?
Could you post the design of the moccasin
I wish you'd have shown how to start that back stitch.
What do you can those shoes that have rope soles? In Spanish they are called "Alpargatas", you should try to make some!

use latigo soles! Try Lakota style and bead them!
How waterproof are they?

Just go with the tried and true side seam moccasin , or....the woodland centre seam
No need to reinvent things
For me it would be center seam, Cherokee style
How do they feel on your feet?
AZBareFeet I would imagine it’s like wearing leather gloves on your hands
Wow you could have slapped those deer
i bet you could use some cow/ raw hide sa insoles or soles that you stitch to the bottom.
How did you find a pattern?
+BIGGER STONES
I just started folding fabric around my foot until I had something that worked. Simply trial and error.
awesome! thanks for the videos from Salem OR.
My family has the same last name as you
And people say sewing isn't for men. Smh.
I wear a size 15
The food we kill has emotions, those emotions?- they pass into our bodies once we eat zem.
