    Ever notice how when you have a show with black people that don't fit the stereotype all of a sudden these positive black characters are acting white. But you have a show with black characters killing each other, selling drugs, etc. Its the black show and they are keeping it real.

      I also noticed in dramas with a mostly white cast, like Your Honor, there's always the Wire type vibe with the Black characters. It really doesn't have anything to do with the show either, they just wanted to add some hood shit..

    You're fighting the good fight. I'm so tired of the one dimensional view most people including those who are in the community have of African descent people.
    Movies like this although I was people to get paid is so shortsighted.
    The ratchetness is why other ethnicities as a group don't take African descent people seriously.
    Every group has ratchetness but none display it so proudly. This week it's brick woman there will be more

    I thought the same when i watched top boy a few years ago and although i had a nostalgic link to the tv show as i lived in london for 11 years with many nigerian friends. So yes some characters are not depicted as bad people but as it is impossible for them to get out of that life.
    Most of my friends were uni graduates , some hustled but not to the extent of what is depicted in those shows. Maybe just hustling a bit to get the money to start a legit business. It still should not be like that, but…when. We are young we tend to do things which are childish and stupid.
    Most black people in london work in banks, supermarket, driving buses, post offices etc… normal jobs. They might be depicted in soap operas, but the successful shows with young people are only the negative ones it seems.

    Top boy and many other shows like it have a common denominator that equates to real life. The street life ends in you getting taken to the stairways of Heaven or Hell. It always ends the same way when you selling drugs and shows/movies that glamorize the lifestyle, BMF is another show that illustrates the rise and fall of big meech and his organization.The story ends the same you never heard of an elderly age drug dealer still in the game fyi Big Meech is still in prison(he will be released) the feds took everything imagine that playing a game that time after time where there are no winners accept those that leave the game scarred,alive, dead, and with a record. You hit the nail on the head King

He even bought him tickets to the Arsenal game before the tragic event. But how Sully ended up we all saw coming.

    The Finale season was garbage. But the rest of Top Boy Seasons was dope. Also liked "Peaky Blinders". Also liked "Finding Forrester" and "Luce". These are 3 diverse theatrical shows/films depicting Black characters in different circumstances. I don't think Top Boy tarnished the image of Black Men no more then I think "The Wire" did or "Power" did. Rappers do more against the image of Black Men then any movie, show, play, etc. But look at who is sponsoring them to put those images out there. Rappers are the "corner boys". They're not the distributors.

    I would say the exception in Top Boy is Jamies brother who was going to uni but never ended up in the road life. However I understand what King Richez is saying. Also I believed that Top Boy made Hackney to be more violent and worse than it actually is, most people that grow up on council estates in Hackney are still law abiding and hard working people.

    Top boy is just a depiction of the real life for a lot of young black boys in London. Whats wrong with us getting recognition and raising awareness about what a lot of us lived through. I am from South East London and grew up in an estate that was 90% black. Our lives were set up significantly different than our Asian and White counterparts. Majority of my friends had no dad around and were on benefits. I am not making this up, you can look up statistics that show that the highest rate of single motherhood in the Uk is from black people, Caribbeans being the highest followed by Africans as the second. So a lot of the top boy scenes were real when we looked out the window: addicts, 50 man outside hustling drinking, police harrasment, prostis. I feel like a lot of your followers come from middle class backgrounds and think that all black people are the same as them. Sad reality there is a huge number of brothers that really were born into the top boy life and it cant be ignored.

    • @ManFriday_XY
      @ManFriday_XY 9 місяців тому +1

      False... What are you talking about bruder??..Im from south east.. what estate are you talking about .??.. The "MAJORITY" of black londoners get up in the morning and catch the train or tube to WORK!!!!
      They pay their rent, spend time with their black spouse and do normal things like catching up with their non-criminal bredrens.. eat fried chicken and support Arsenal footballl...
      They work on london underground..south eastern trains..or the council.. or drive da bus..or dressed in orange hi viz going to construction site.. THIS IS THE MOST UNDER REPRESENTED SIDE OF BLACK PEOPLE THAT NEVER GET ON TV or any media..
      Instead we get man like you who convince white folks that we all drive bmw from selling weed ..beat our girlfriends and leave our children.(false.!!).. Big up king Richez.. I always hated Topboy for the same reasons Im talking about.. There is never Aaaaannnnyyy normal black folks on that show or any other show.. All the blk men are dumb disfunctional and fail at everything ..the women are supposed to be more intellegent in this white vision of the blk life..
      Fyah fi dem.. and fyah fo you for thinking most of us are like dat.

    • @tanqueray_philly3432
      @tanqueray_philly3432 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ManFriday_XY First of all I am not trying to convince white people about anything. As far as I am concerned white people are not even on my radar. I dont care about white people enough to convince them about anything. Second of all everything that I talked about is my own experiences. Your experiences might not match mine, but it doesnt mean that it doesnt exist.
      Most importantly never did I ever say that there arent black people that live normal lives nor did I ever say that MOST black people live a ''top boy'' kind of lifestyle. I personally live a life like the example you gave, go to work, meet with my bredrins and eat rice and peas drink a beer etc. That would be an INSANE statement. Yet it would also be foolish and ignorant to deny reality. If you really grew up in SE London you must have seen all the things I talked about. I dont see how you could deny that black boys are set up in life in a different way and the things in Top boy absolutely do happen to black people disproportionately. That is why there are stereotypes, because there is reality in them. I backed them up with the statistics that single motherhood is the highest amongst black people with caribbeans being the highest and africans being the second highest. Also Young offenders prison populations are 70% black.
      So basically what I am saying is that most black people might not be living that dysfunctional life, but when it comes to that kind of dysfunctional life it comes from black households and ''black'' areas. No one can deny that there is an abnormal number of black people that live that life moreso than other races.

      @Kumari_44 9 місяців тому +1

      It’s basicly art imitating life, so i hear what youre saying. I’m from a very similar background. But the problem is that shows like these that imitate ‘the life’ are waay to prevalent compared to shows that show black people in a good light, excelling and not being the stereotype. Cos best believe that is also art imitating life aswell. But people arent often used to that and are often way more used to seeing black people poor, shanking, robbing & selling poison to their own community. Because the media purposefully pattern it that way. And when you show that to young black kids instead of showing them positive black examples, you dont help them. You hurt them. Whats the point further ‘representing’ negativity that so many are already too aware of? Especially to a demographic of people that already started of with a bad hand to begin with! I dare say it even *encourages* those young impressionable boys to stay in the life. I’m not saying i didnt enjoy top boy for the good show that it is. I did. It does the stereotypical done to death hood story very well. Better than alot of these other crappy youtube ones with shit plots where you can tell mandem just wanted to act like they were really about that life. But lets call a spade a spade. Real life or not, this stuff is not the representation we need. Not when we’re already a joke to all the other people outside of our community and get little respect as a result. We need positive media representations of us. Not this whole done to death ‘hood story’ stuff again for the thousandth time.

      @@tanqueray_philly3432 Sir you did say ."majority" . TOPBOY simply is not the life of the majority black folk. And it has no black people on the show who resemble the vast majority of law abiding, working, peaceful black folk ..It doesnt represent us and is a mischaracterisation. It is a mispresentaion of black people and black culture in the uk...
      Perhaps you are not aware but the show you are defending and advocating for was created by a european gentleman. You and him seem to have the same views on what black males look and act like..thats interesting to me. King Richez is dicussing if a TV show in perpetuating the destruction of the media image of black men...We are NOT discussing systemic race issues like single motherhood..prison ect.

    Top Boy is “The Wire” from the early 2000s. There needs to be a Black God Father show! The reason we romanticize crime is because Caucasians did it first with the Italian mafia in America with Al Capone and the Untouchables (Police). All the movies and shows are just reheated soup from old caucasian films. Even in real life they where gangsters and criminals first.
