Great video! I was with you the whole way until the end when you said get rid of Topps Holiday. 😱 That is my favorite release of the year because it is the only box I open that my kids want to participate in. They love the holiday themed short prints. 🎄
Great video. I need a video breakdown of the best inserts to collect. Not high doller, but coolest and best looking inserts. I love the Summertime in the Park that just released. Looking for more great inserts to go after and complete next.
Really late to the party here Scottie, but I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this video. I hope Topps takes your advice and reduces the amount of sets, but we all this is not going to happen. The only ones I disagree with you on is the Bowman Chrome Mega (love the Mojos, but I also love xfractors), Topps Holiday (what can I say, I love Christmas and this is an easy set to make for us old set builders since it is only 200 cards), and I do like Archives, although I would never buy a box to open. Until next time....
I definitely agree there are WAY TOO MANY different products. Topps/Fanatics should trim down the selections and make Quality Control a top priority. No modern card should be more than. 55/45 OC with the technology that's out there.
Great idea - reduce the number of sets! I agree with you on most of your selections, but with one glaring objection: please don’t get rid of Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary! That has been my absolute favorite set for the past three years. (Although, eliminating it would save me a LOT of money…)
Could not agree more! I was planning to make this exact video, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Topps should really consult with you in this, I think you nailed it for the most part. There's always some minor disagreements based on what people love, but can't argue much with you here. The only change I would make is to make sure they keep making Big League or something that appeals to real kids (not kids of millionaires carrying around cases at shows), and i would bring back Gallery because I've loved the look of that one since 1997. Bowman Platinum is always one of my favorite designs as well, so would keep that in the Bowman bucket.
Good video. I do love BIg League and Platinum Chrome, Also no interest in the high end relic cards. More than anything though, I would love to see retail prices come down. They are out of hand!
Scottie. Happy to see you came around on Topps Gilded. I love the cards and pretty much only collect this set. Better set then Definitive, Transcendent, Icon, etc,
2019 definitive patch set is amazing. Great etching on it and has the sticker ID. I have a mookie with a patch from Father’s Day and a Freddie with an auto on that patch itself. Very cool set.
I love Tier one, Museum, and Tribute. I would want those to continue. I also love Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary. Topps Chrome Gilded. it is easily the best of those. I find Allen and Ginter to be a waste. I just have never been able to get into those cards. I do agree it would be nice to see less set though. Have them combine the best of some products to create an all around better product for collectors.
Great video as usually. We are very similar. Only places I disagree is I like platinum anniversary more than flashback and I love Topps Chrome Cosmic it’s just a fun set to me. I also like Icons better than definitive slightly but not passionate about that take.
Agree. I really feel it's the set that has the most actual appeal as a product, as opposed to those whose appeal is based on money (Such as the Bowman sets.) it brings you in the game. It's art. It's exciting to look at the pictures.
Absolutely love this video. After attending FanaticsFest last weekend the only thing I'm sure of in the Hobby is that Topps is going to do everything possible to milk people dry using FOMO as their greatest weapon, and it's easy to induce FOMO when you have a new set releasing every 6 days for the whole year! One thought for my friends who collect Archives autos - what if they got rid of Archives and made Archives autos case hits within Heritage? For example, you'd have 1 buyback Archive auto *specifically a 1975 buyback auto placed in 2024 Heritage* that matches the year's Heritage design. A bridge from past to present AND would keep the Archives auto checklist fresh by moving forward through time linearly. Could this work while also making Heritage a less arduous rip?
Love this idea of cutting down on products. I know it's wishful thinking Topps would remove products but fun to think about. My only major disagreement with the list is Cosmic. I think Cosmic has been an absolute home run (no pun). Not a fan of pretty much any of the other Chrome extensions outside of Gilded but I do have an appreciation for that new product.
Great idea for a topic, it's high time for some thoughtful pruning of sets. Your best idea is that some of the best parts of sets destined for eliminated should/can be incorporated into the remaining sets. I'm glad you have Allen & Ginter it's due, but I think Gypsy Queen (which has many fans still) could be incorporated into A&G in a smart way that provides more "hits" to a set that sometimes feels a bit too far out there (how many barbeque sauce ingredient cards does one really need?). Lacking base numbered cards (I know you hate those), GQ could be a parallel with a GQ design for each 350 base card. Also, I miss the full-size on-card autos from GQ. In the end, the only thing driving Topps is what makes the most money for Fanatics these days. It's telling that few of the high-end sets have been discontinued but there's a huge need for that.
Topps Pristine is the goat. I grew up collecting that in 02-03 chasing the rare Bonds during his epic run and rare Lebron golds. Bizarre product but I love it!
Awesome! Totally agree. Even if Topps doesn’t listen these are the top 15 sets to target for people coming into the hobby or getting back in. Great job
I like Pro Debut because it has longevity has been around for years and it's a great value. I don't feel bad buying a hobby box, you get 4 autos for under $100. Also there is a nice mix of Chrome and Paper in the flagship design of the year.
I know im on an island by myself, but I really like Pristine. Also, Inception and the gold ink autos and the patches they have make me feel like Inception should make the cut.
2023 TCPA is arguably the best release of the year. The old look of the 54 design in the modern chrome mix perfectly together. With a boat load of various colored parallels per hobby box and an auto? Sheeeeeeeet!!! should be top 5 atleast
I love sapphire. But I think an interesting approach to it moving forward with Bowman would be to include it as a subset. Not an "insert", but a subset. Take the top 50 prospects getting their 1st Bowman Chrome card that year and make a checklist of sapphire cards. Then equitable include the sapphire cards across all three releases of Bowman as chase cards. For example, using Bobby Witt, you could pull a 1st Bowman Chrome Sapphire card in Bowman, Bowman Draft, or Bowman Chrome. Keep all of the sapphire cards short printed so there are few of them and they really become a chase card. Because you are including the entire checklist over all three products, it becomes more of a subset than a parallel or insert.
Also.... because you only print Sapphire in the year they have their 1st Bowman, you would only ever have 1 Bowman Sapphire card of any player. You wouldn't need to use the same image as their 1st Bowman (though you could) and wouldn't need to put 1st Bowman on it. Don't make it a parallel. Make it a unique card that will only ever be printed in one year and then that player never gets another Bowman Sapphire card. If you don't want to do it the same year as their 1st Bowman, it could be the next year. So take all the players who had a 1st Bowman Chrome in 2024 across all three releases and choose the top 50 prospects to have a Sapphire card in the 2025 release. That let's you plan ahead and distribute the cards across all three 2025 releases. And it gives super star prospects two years of chase hype... a 1st Chrome chase and the Sapphire chase. And because the stars are in all 3 releases, you are drawn to buy all 3 chasing those sapphire cards for the player you want.
Sorry for the multiple replies... I'm spitballing here... Because players only get one Sapphire card, ever (moving forward) you could incorporate the concept of the Living Set. Number the cards with 4 digits, first 2 are the year and the second 2 are the card. And continue making it a huge set to collect. So starting in 2025, the cards would be 2501-2550. Then 2026 the set would continue with cards 2601-2650. Or you can do 100 player set instead of 50 so your numbering system is a little less confusing. You could do 100 prospects or 50 prospects and 50 vets who are now getting their last (and first for some) Sapphire card. So you could include Ken Griffey and Babe Ruth cards. Make the veteran cards SSP so 51-99 are even more rare. Just thoughts to make Sapphire more desirable and make chasing it more fun.
I’d be on board with all of this EXCEPT Sapphire should be a box/pack hit in bowman/flagship chrome If you get rid of holiday then you need a hit in blasters, that’s the point of holiday
Personally I like Bowman Sterling, short checklist, on card autos, very clean design. Cheaper alternative to bowman draft, chrome etc for the same guys you want to chase. Compared to Bowman’s best I think you get one more auto for a similar price.
1. Topps paper (including update) 2. Topps Chrome (including update) 3. Finest 4. Stadium Club (although I'm not a fan but people like it) 5. Black Chrome 6. Allen and Ginter (although I'm not a fan but many are) 7. Tier One 8. Gilded 9. Bowman (paper and add draft to chrome already) 10. Bowman's Best I think that's all we need. A few higher end and everything else.
Great video! Do you think getting rid of sets like Transcendent, Sterling, and Diamond Icons and essentially taking the good from those and putting it into sets like Definitive would ultimately drive up the prices of Definitive and/or the other sets they would have to condense?
I only need #1, #2 and #4. Nearly everything else may be inserts in these products and then have a high end, 5-10 card product to put all of the high-end cards in.
I agree man. It's just a money hole at this point. I am pretty much paying for just shiner version of the cards I just paid a tin of money to get. I wish the just made liken7 or 8 sets and combined all the sapphire sets in as just parallels. My wallet would appreciate it
We need archives because it is a cheaper alternative where you can get some really nice autos. And even when you don't get a great auto, it is cheap enough that an auto with low value isn't automatically bad. I'm a Yankee fan and pulled a John Flaherty auto. In a more expensive box, I would be ticked at the low value auto. But in Archives, I was happy with that auto just because he had a big hit for the Yankees and I like him in the booth.
Big League is great. It gets short printing right, with its rarity level foils. Insert sets are also fun. I’ll take a mascot card over the stupid buddy/former teammates unite cards of Flagship. I like Heritage because it feels like hot garbage junk wax, BUT find Archives more enjoyable. The Archives checklist serves as a visual history lesson for the kiddos. However, Topps WEARS OUT their old designs because they are fat and lazy. A Bowman blaster and Mega Box is good clean fun, but Targets do currently have Megas collecting dust. There’s probably a whole lot of high end consolidation that should happen to sets I’d never consider.
Minor league anything sucks. I'd keep Tribute over the others in that group you mentioned. Keep Finest and get rid of Bowman's Best. Finest came first and the two are always too similar looking. Definitive parallels are ugly, but patches are cool. Still, Transcendent, Diamond Icons, and Sterling are all better sets, but all are overpriced by quite a bit. Triple Threads sucks - sticker autos, secondary market values on most cards suck, and those giant auto booklets suck unless you are like the 3 people who pull them, but even then, you can't display them, so what a waste. Finest used to have tiers back in like 1996 or 1997, so this year's finest isn't a new concept. I like it. What's wrong with having more base that no one typically wants being chase and not as common. I think making lower print runs of some base is a good idea. I wish they would go back to making base rookies serial numbered like they did in the 2000's, so there are only like 500-2000 #'d "base" rookies in a product. They need to fix Topps Chrome. The value is not what it used to be and way too many no-name autos. I like the Bowman Chrome Mega, but I hate the format. The 2 packs for $50 along with 4 regular bowman packs that are nothing but Bowman base is garbage. Those should just be Mega packs for that price, or lower it to $30 and just have 4 packs of Megas, and the autos should still all be firsts, especially if the regular Mega cards are. They just need to get more value in Flagship. No one wants the cheap inserts and you aren't guaranteed anything. I just pass on it because I'd rather save my money for something better.
Big league and Gypsy Queen need to be brought back. Just like in the 90s, these are the sets that kept the hobby "fun". There are too many boring middle age dude sets.
What Pro Debut has that is different than the Bowman sets is the players in their minor league jerseys. Not that I love Pro Debut, but the airbrushing in Bowman drives me nuts. Never looks quite right. It's like a bad green screen from thirty years ago. I'd definitely enjoy Bowman more if they'd step away from that. There's no chance of it, and I'm sure I'm the only one who cares. But eeesh. In the pic you showed, Bobby Witt looks like a cartoon or something. It's rough.
Get rid of Topps Opening Day!! It's just one more base set that holds little value with little upside or variations. I like the Cosmic Chrome as it adds a unique variation design especially saying FIRE has been discontinued. They also ended Gallery and Gypsy Queen so there isn't much poor man's collecting of variation design cards other than Allen & Ginter and that uses less than half baseball player cards. Heritage looks like garbage and other than "the real ones" and marker limited cards, holds little value as well. Bowman Platinum is fun and looks awesome while getting you into minor leaguers in a better way than Heritage ever could. If I wanted to look at card styles of the 80s I'd buy a junk box, stuff the gum in my mouth through all 24 packs while flinging each garbage designed card in the trash feeling nostalgia for that Era. We don't need it in the 2020s so bring back Fire, Gypsy Queen, or Gallery and doesn't Archives do enough justice for a junk wax era? Heritage is the cheapest set produced "other than Big League" but their quality is similar.
A major consolidation of "higher end" product is absolutely necessary. Baseball collectors aren't cut from the same cloth as basketball/football who love high end RPA's and logoman's. Sapphire on the other hand is my one disagreement with you. If they get rid of the stupid sticker autographs, it's one of the best sets for middle tier collecting in the hobby, especially for lesser known players.
15??? That's too many already... I say keep it around 6... 1 entry level, 1 high end, 1 premium (3 sets) for Topps and Bowman. 15 is way too many... do you really want to flood the market with so many cards?
Agree all the way except for Pristine. Really like that set coming back. And I think I'd rather have Gypsy Queen over A&G.....I don't need hotdog cards.
Best statement in this video “Bring back atomics to Bowmans Best”. It’s a parallel that goes back to 1996.
Could not agree more with this!
The only one I would add is Cosmic, I really like that set. I enjoy the designs and look of the cards.
I'd keep Cosmic. Tons of appeal for 90's collectors. Topps Fire had the same appeal imo. Brought me back to my days collecting Circa.
Cosmic is trash overpriced and no guaranteed autos don't see these cards holding any value in the long run
Allen and Ginter got me back into collecting. Big fan
Great video!
I was with you the whole way until the end when you said get rid of Topps Holiday. 😱
That is my favorite release of the year because it is the only box I open that my kids want to participate in. They love the holiday themed short prints. 🎄
Yeah its not my cup of tea either but I know it has a very strong following
I appreciate the unique topic....keep thinking outside the box!
Cool analysis…I agree with most. Love flagship, chrome, bowmans best, heritage and stadium club. My 5 favs!!
Getting rid of Cosmic?!?!? My heart! I'd get rid of all Bowman over Cosmic.
I 100% agree on getting rid of Archives.
I definitely agree there are WAY TOO MANY different products. Topps/Fanatics should trim down the selections and make Quality Control a top priority. No modern card should be more than. 55/45 OC with the technology that's out there.

Agreed! Maybe we should just have about 10
Crushed it - loved this video!!!
Agree on archives - takes away some of the fun of heritage.

Nailed it! I’d get rid of sapphire all together- it’s a tired design.
Do emerald inserts instead 🤙🏼
Stadium Club is one of my favorites
mine too, especially chrome.
mine too.. it's one of the few products left that actually has great photography. Most of the other sets have boring photos.
Agree. I really feel it's the set that has the most actual appeal as a product, as opposed to those whose appeal is based on money (Such as the Bowman sets.) it brings you in the game. It's art. It's exciting to look at the pictures.
I agree with most of your take. But Bowman mega box stays tho. It’s nice having some retail that’s actually worth rolling the dice on.

Agree with all your picks, well done! Your opinion on logofractors?
Great analysis
Love this idea of cutting down on products. I know it's wishful thinking Topps would remove products but fun to think about. My only major disagreement with the list is Cosmic. I think Cosmic has been an absolute home run (no pun). Not a fan of pretty much any of the other Chrome extensions outside of Gilded but I do have an appreciation for that new product.
15 is still too many . But you gotta start somewhere.
Great idea for a topic, it's high time for some thoughtful pruning of sets. Your best idea is that some of the best parts of sets destined for eliminated should/can be incorporated into the remaining sets. Love the video! Just subscribed! 🤩
loved this! agreed with 99% of it! i could go either way on inception but yes... trim the fat and keep the top quality sets. 100%
I love the holiday set, that's just me but too each their own lol
Topps Pristine is the goat. I grew up collecting that in 02-03 chasing the rare Bonds during his epic run and rare Lebron golds. Bizarre product but I love it!
Awesome! Totally agree. Even if Topps doesn’t listen these are the top 15 sets to target for people coming into the hobby or getting back in. Great job
Don't think I can agree with you on The Topps Holiday.
I'm a big kid and look forward to that set.
I think I could cut it to like 4 haha. Fun video.
That was a good take but I absolutely adore Bowman Chrome Sapphire
I like Pro Debut because it has longevity has been around for years and it's a great value. I don't feel bad buying a hobby box, you get 4 autos for under $100. Also there is a nice mix of Chrome and Paper in the flagship design of the year.
I agree with you a 100% ! Good list !
Phenomenal list. Keep Chrome Platinum around and I’m in full agreeance🫡
Tcpa is dog shit
I love sapphire. But I think an interesting approach to it moving forward with Bowman would be to include it as a subset. Not an "insert", but a subset. Just thoughts to make Sapphire more desirable and make chasing it more fun.
I’m in the minority, but I liked Topps Fire. I think a Topps Fire Chrome would look pretty sweet, but then again, there already is Cosmic
Bring back Gypsy Queen !
I’d be on board with all of this EXCEPT
Sapphire should be a box/pack hit in bowman/flagship chrome
If you get rid of holiday then you need a hit in blasters, that’s the point of holiday
Personally I like Bowman Sterling, short checklist, on card autos, very clean design. Cheaper alternative to bowman draft, chrome etc for the same guys you want to chase. Compared to Bowman’s best I think you get one more auto for a similar price.
1. Topps paper (including update)
2. Topps Chrome (including update)
3. Finest
4. Stadium Club (although I'm not a fan but people like it)
5. Black Chrome
6. Allen and Ginter (although I'm not a fan but many are)
7. Tier One
8. Gilded
9. Bowman (paper and add draft to chrome already)
10. Bowman's Best
I think that's all we need. A few higher end and everything else.
Get rid of Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary??? This set is new-ish but incredibly popular. Why not just have Finest Flashbacks as inserts in Finest?
Great video! Do you think getting rid of sets like Transcendent, Sterling, and Diamond Icons and essentially taking the good from those and putting it into sets like Definitive would ultimately drive up the prices of Definitive and/or the other sets they would have to condense?
I only need #1, #2 and #4. Nearly everything else may be inserts in these products and then have a high end, 5-10 card product to put all of the high-end cards in.
I agree. I am sick of the hundreds of rookie cards of 1 player. Who do we contact to see this happen?
I do agree with every one of the cuts you made and more. Topps Chrome Logofractor should also go away and just become a parallel.
I definitely would make it a parallel or axe it. Thank you for the reminder of the set!
Topps chrome soccer added a topps fractor parallel this year out of /52.
Stadium Club is thr best. God dang do i love the photos they use
I agree man. It's just a money hole at this point. I am pretty much paying for just shiner version of the cards I just paid a tin of money to get. I wish the just made liken7 or 8 sets and combined all the sapphire sets in as just parallels. My wallet would appreciate it

A Bowman blaster and Mega Box is good clean fun, but Targets do currently have Megas collecting dust.
There’s probably a whole lot of high end consolidation that should happen to sets I’d never consider.
Heritage minors > Pro Debut ---- 1000% agree
I will never forgive Topps for getting rid of Gypsy Queen
Love this video!
Pretty good list!
Heritage ML if was still around probably would be the best place for Topps to do a player debut patch autos 1 of 1s.
Agreed. Well done 👍 🎉
Well said
15 is still too many but it would be a step in the right direction

They just need to get more value in Flagship. No one wants the cheap inserts and you aren't guaranteed anything. I just pass on it because I'd rather save my money for something better.
How I feel as well!
Topps needs to replace the base chrome set for black chrome and add comis for case hits.
A lot of the sets you would get rid of are already gone. RIP Gypsy Queen.
Is heritage minor no longer a product?
Exactly!
Oh yeah. HERITAGE BABY!!!!
How many shohei autos in that finest?
Scottie B hates sets with a lot of parallels because it dilutes the importance of numbered rookie cards.
I think that Diamond Icons is better than Definitive, but to each their own.
I am 100% okay with switching Diamond Icons for Definitive. Both have cool aspects for sure!
Cut out some of the parallels in Topps chrome and replace it with Sapphire.
I'm not even sure I would keep 15 sets. There are far too many different sets being produced in my opinion, but hey I'm old school.
Big league and Gypsy Queen need to be brought back. Just like in the 90s, these are the sets that kept the hobby "fun". There are too many boring middle age dude sets.
Gypsy queen is the only set I put together
Agree 100%
YES
What Pro Debut has that is different than the Bowman sets is the players in their minor league jerseys. Not that I love Pro Debut, but the airbrushing in Bowman drives me nuts. Never looks quite right. It's like a bad green screen from thirty years ago. I'd definitely enjoy Bowman more if they'd step away from that. There's no chance of it, and I'm sure I'm the only one who cares. But eeesh. In the pic you showed, Bobby Witt looks like a cartoon or something. It's rough.
Good video. I like Archive a lot. Gypsy Queen is booty
You are a beast
Hmmm… you forgot topps chrome Logofractor.
In my opinion the only tired and boring designs are flagship
Love you Scottie, we do not need heritage minor league, ever again lmfaoooo
Fkn bring back Stadium Club Chrome
Boo Scotty...Topps Now is the Bomb
15?
Still hoping Donruss gets licensing rights.
Tired of not seeing team logos on their cards. 🤞
It wont, its panini, it doesn't even have a majority of active players. Just dont buy it
@@timmccray7507 I'm just tired of fanatics over saturating the market. Feels like the hobby is going backwards...to the junk wax era
Cut it down even more to 12 or one per month.
Gypsy queen hasnt come out in a few years
I challenge you to a fight
Keep Inception.
Heritage sucks
Agree all the way except for Pristine. Really like that set coming back. And I think I'd rather have Gypsy Queen over A&G.....I don't need hotdog cards.
BRING BACK ATOMICS!
But Scottie...... how are we going to 10x the hobby if we get rid of all the junk? Lol
Topps finest is dope, IMO I love them
