I’ve put in the time polishing, waxing and cleaning my jeep. This winter, I’m taking my jeep to one of those self car washes, but I’m bringing my own soap, cleaning mitt and towels. I’ll just use their water and not that nasty brush.
I heard from Yvan on DIY Detail that using a leaf blower might not be the best, because the water evaporates, BUT the minerals and sediments in the water still remain on the paint, this is if you don't have a sealant or coating.
If you don’t have paint protection, using a blower to dry a car is not efficient, it’s counterproductive. If you do have paint protection (wax, sealant, coating), using a blower is super fast and efficient, and a touchless way to dry the car.
Every vehicle in the driveway is ceramic coated. 😎😬 it still amazes Me how the water flies off. I love the sno-broom. I get them from My job. I'll definitely try a micro fiber towel on top this winter. Not totally clearing to the paint is spot on! That will totally prevent swirls and scratches. For powdery snow, I will use the leaf blower. I have dedicated summer tires for my Mustang GT. Right now I'm just using all season tires on a separate set of wheels for the winter. You think I have to have dedicated winter tires? I live in Central Illinois.
Snow tires are not required everywhere in Canada. Just like the different US states, provinces here have different regulations. On the West coast of Canada, in greater Vancouver, they are not required as we get very little snow if any. However if you are travelling through mountain regions, ex. driving to Whistler, they are required in the winter months.

10:37 DoorLocks - don't forget to spray your hood , door and trunk latches and gas door hinge and release . And for the door handles , I pull them away from the door , not opening . And liberally spray the crevices behind them .
Hi, great video. Sorry newbie question. I will be going to get my vehicle rust checked soon. I've gotten this service before, but this time it will be on a new vehicle with a graphene coating. There is always some overspray that occurs during the application and I was wondering what you would recommend afterwards in getting rid of the excess gunk? They recommend not washing the vehicle for at least 48 hrs, so I'm worried this might screw up the paint/coating. Thank you!

Winter tires are huge, especially if you own a smaller car that doesn't have a ton of weight to dig into the snow. I got away without them on my big SUV for many years but after spending a winter in my much smaller elantra on some used all seasons I did not hesitate to get a full set of dedicated winters and the difference was massive. Soo much better to drive on.

I've long thought that cleaning products for use in sub-freezing temperatures would be the next "front" of development, since so few people have access to a heated garage or wash bay. Keeping a vehicle clean in the winter is really the ultimate challenge.

This is so good. Just walked in 8°F snow to put wiper wash liquid in my car. Who knew that just buying a car wasn't enough?! xD TIL, wiper washer != Anti-freeze for the engine.
My brother used to spray his car with Waxoyl just before winter, then clean it off in the spring. It was black by then! Now he puts his car in to a detailer to have it ceramic coated every couple of years, and does regular washes.
These are fantastic, very practical winter tips, Pan! One tip I can add, following Tip 15 regarding the battery is to keep in the vehicle a Boost Pack such as the one I picked up from Canadian Tire for $148: the NOCO Genius GB40 Boost Plus Booster Pack/Jump Starter, 1000-Amp, 12V. Super handy when in a pinch if your battery accidentally drained or if you need a boost or to help anyone else in a bind. Happy Holidays and stay safe!

Winter tyres I fit to our rear wheel drive BMW's in the UK, but some people recommend due to the milder winters here to fit all season in the winter and fit summer tyres in the summer months.
I would really appreciate if you could make a video on winter outdoor washing. You have few vids of winter washing inside your nice heated garage, but for many of us that live in the cold climates, who do all their washing in the driveway, lacking a garage, it would be great to see some safe simplified winter washing methods, thanks for all the great content.
Unfortunately there is no way for me to do that, as we are below freezing temperatures here in Montreal in the winter. I can't do a wash outside when the weather is -10C or -20C (14F to -4F). There is no miracle solution to freezing weather. You need a heated garage, or you can bring your vehicle to a professional detailer and have them take care of it for you. You can’t if your outside any temps are below freezing even if you use hot water it’s still going to freeze if it’s above freezing temps just wash like normal
Never heart tip #13 before! Thank you! These are really good tips! Something I would add to every car is a bic lighter! So many kits have candles but absolutely no lighter. It could save your life!
I used Fusso Coat for the paint, Glaco for the glass and max guard for the wheels. I’ll do a chemical decon every 2 months to keep the paint and glass coatings in good order and reapply the wheel wax at the same time. We don’t normally get bad winters in southern England, it’s the salt spreaders that are the biggest pain in the exhaust
I keep a bottle of ps epic mixed with 2oz of mckees graphine rinseless mixed in and certain mf towels in the truck. I gotta say it keeps snow, ice, and water off my worry list. I haven't used my wipers in the mountains/winter climate at all. I'm impressed with combining older and newer products. It's just a lot of fun and I blame you, Pan, for all the fun I'm having 🤣🤘
Thanks Igor! There aren't ways to prevent ice and snow, but you can certainly make it easier to clean/remove if you have protection on the paint, and you can use a fabric protectant on the inside arches if they are in a fabric/felt material, or a plastic coating if they are in plastic.
Great tips. I have Husky floor mats that go up the sides and the drivers mat completly covers the space under the gas pedal and completly covers the dead pedal, makes to hard for the salt and snow to reach the carpets. I avoid the wax undercoatings as if there is any rust they just cover up the rust and it can still spread under the wax coating. I've been using Corrosion Free for my last two vehicles and rust has not been an issue. My snow brush has a silicon head on it and use the techinque that you mentioned, leaving about a quarter of an inch. Once again great tips.

I've noticed no one really checks their tire pressures, especially the customers at my dealership, also the way the electrical systems are on VWs if the battery is getting weak we get a lot of random system issues not just starting issues. These systems are very voltage sensitive and will set faults.
Hi Pan. Tip 5 (checking tyre pressure) if the owner has changed the original tyres for something different best to check psi on the tyre) as I made the mistake and under inflated my tyres for a couple of weeks after buying the car. See you on the next one.
Interesting comment. The PSI indicator ON the tire is the Maximum pressure the tire can hold safely. This is not the recommended tire pressure for driving, big difference. If you follow your advice you will be driving on severely overinflated tires resulting in irregular wear and early tire failure. Unless where you live they also include the recommended PSI on the sidewall, not so in Canada.
Never rely on the PSI rating on the tire. That's the maximum pressure the tire can safely hold. What you should be doing is looking for the proper tire pressure on the tag on the door frame on the driver side, or in your user's manual to see what the manufacturer's recommended pressure is.
I switched to one of those foam snow brushes from Garant that Canadian Tire sells. They work great and are fairly gentle on the paint. I apply Silicone Lube to the weather stripping & spray lithium grease on the hinges at every oil change year round.
Loving the video Pan Was wondering, would you be able to do a video about how to maintain your detailing equipment and how to store it away especially during the winter e.g draining pressure washer, hoses etc and putting them away to avoid them freezing up and basically any other equipment that will get effected by the winter temperatures
I live in CO and am doing my first complete paint correction and Avalon King ceramic coating. Is it adequate to wait 48 hrs to cure before taking it out on snow, slush, and the scoria they spread on the road?
It is CRUCIAL to let that specific coating dry and cure for 48 hours without exposure to the elements, rain, moisture, snow, etc. And make sure you apply two coats, 1 hour between coats. I have a tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/Rgli6VNLsK4/v-deo.html

No. To remove wax, a quick machine polish alone will be enough (after you wash the car). Polishing (mechanical abrasion) is what ensures 100% removal of any protection. To wash the car, you can use a stripping shampoo that helps to start the breaking down process of older waxes, like this one: amzn.to/3VkzH8j

Great tips man! When you mentioned the wiper blades you reminded me of a great question for you. What the heck would you recommend for keeping the top part looking clean and dressed? Mine always look dull and flat and would prefer them to have that fresh new look! Hyper dressing or perhaps a vinyl/rubber conditioner? For reference I run BOSCH wipers on all my cars.
You mean the top part (exposed part) of the rubber blades? Yeah just use a plastics dressing. But I don't do that. I just keep them clean and change the blades every year or so.

It’s the law in my province (Quebec). I don’t know about other provinces. But it saves lives. Summer tires with 30 inches of snow and ice makes zero sense.
Always enjoy the vids. Living in Virginia, our winters are mild but we get lots of road salts and calcium that attack’s the paint. I’ve typically used a paste wax for more paint protection because of that. With my new ceramic coating, I’m topping with TW Flex Wax. Do I still need the paste wax?
Pan I had a question and I thought I'd ask here in your latest video. so I just received my first Gallon of "Iron remover" I wanted to get "Meguiar's Wheel & Paint Iron Decon" but I went with "Adam's Iron remover" because it was cheaper and faster to ship Anyway my question: After opening the gallon and refilling my bottle, now the whole room where I store my iron remover (Gallon container) STINKS. I tried cleaning the gallon with APC and some Alcohol which helped a bit but it still reeks. Any tips on how to store iron remover? now I have the gallon wrapped in a couple of plastic bags which helps but not completely eliminates the smell
I don't know that tire, but a quick research on the Continental website says it's an all-season tire. So it's not a dedicated winter tire. Don't you have a law in Ontario that states it's mandatory to have winter tires at a certain point? We have that law in Quebec. But as you live in Canada, you guys get pretty crazy winters like we do in Quebec, so I would highly recommend that you get proper dedicated winter tires.

Hi Paul. I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership. But for people who want absolute protection from stone chips and scratches, PPF is the only solution. You can usually use the same coating as for exterior plastics, but check with the specific coating you purchase to see if it can be applied to powder coated surfaces.

I have dedicated summer tires for my Mustang GT. Right now I'm just using all season tires on a separate set of wheels for the winter. You think I have to have dedicated winter tires? I live in Central Illinois.

Snow tires are not required everywhere in Canada. Just like the different US states, provinces here have different regulations. On the West coast of Canada, in greater Vancouver, they are not required as we get very little snow if any. However if you are travelling through mountain regions, ex. driving to Whistler, they are required in the winter months.

10:37 DoorLocks - don't forget to spray your hood , door and trunk latches and gas door hinge and release . And for the door handles , I pull them away from the door , not opening . And liberally spray the crevices behind them .

Hi, great video. Sorry newbie question. I will be going to get my vehicle rust checked soon. I've gotten this service before, but this time it will be on a new vehicle with a graphene coating. There is always some overspray that occurs during the application and I was wondering what you would recommend afterwards in getting rid of the excess gunk? They recommend not washing the vehicle for at least 48 hrs, so I'm worried this might screw up the paint/coating.

It shouldn’t screw up the coating, assuming you have a quality coating. Wait the 48 hours as instructed, and then simply wash your car.

Winter tires are huge, especially if you own a smaller car that doesn't have a ton of weight to dig into the snow. I got away without them on my big SUV for many years but after spending a winter in my much smaller elantra on some used all seasons I did not hesitate to get a full set of dedicated winters and the difference was massive. Soo much better to drive on.
Absolutely. And in many provinces and states this is now the law. Like here where I live, in the province of Quebec (Canada), winter tires are mandatory as of December 1st at the latest. Given the harsh winters we have, this law saves many lives.

I've long thought that cleaning products for use in sub-freezing temperatures would be the next "front" of development, since so few people have access to a heated garage or wash bay. Keeping a vehicle clean in the winter is really the ultimate challenge.
I also spray the silicone lubricant on the hood latch and hood hinges.

My brother used to spray his car with Waxoyl just before winter, then clean it off in the spring. It was black by then! Now he puts his car in to a detailer to have it ceramic coated every couple of years, and does regular washes.
A ceramic coating is my favourite form of paint protection for sure.
These are fantastic, very practical winter tips, Pan! One tip I can add, following Tip 15 regarding the battery is to keep in the vehicle a Boost Pack such as the one I picked up from Canadian Tire for $148: the NOCO Genius GB40 Boost Plus Booster Pack/Jump Starter, 1000-Amp, 12V. Super handy when in a pinch if your battery accidentally drained or if you need a boost or to help anyone else in a bind. Happy Holidays and stay safe!

Winter tyres I fit to our rear wheel drive BMW's in the UK, but some people recommend due to the milder winters here to fit all season in the winter and fit summer tyres in the summer months.

I would really appreciate if you could make a video on winter outdoor washing. You have few vids of winter washing inside your nice heated garage, but for many of us that live in the cold climates, who do all their washing in the driveway, lacking a garage, it would be great to see some safe simplified winter washing methods, thanks for all the great content.
Unfortunately there is no way for me to do that, as we are below freezing temperatures here in Montreal in the winter. I can't do a wash outside when the weather is -10C or -20C (14F to -4F). There is no miracle solution to freezing weather. You need a heated garage, or you can bring your vehicle to a professional detailer and have them take care of it for you.

You can’t if your outside any temps are below freezing even if you use hot water it’s still going to freeze if it’s above freezing temps just wash like normal

I used Fusso Coat for the paint, Glaco for the glass and max guard for the wheels. I’ll do a chemical decon every 2 months to keep the paint and glass coatings in good order and reapply the wheel wax at the same time.
We don’t normally get bad winters in southern England, it’s the salt spreaders that are the biggest pain in the exhaust

I keep a bottle of ps epic mixed with 2oz of mckees graphine rinseless mixed in and certain mf towels in the truck. I gotta say it keeps snow, ice, and water off my worry list. I haven't used my wipers in the mountains/winter climate at all. I'm impressed with combining older and newer products. It's just a lot of fun and I blame you, Pan, for all the fun I'm having 🤣🤘

If there any Tips for preventing ICE and SNOW collecting on side skirts and inside arches?
Thanks Igor! There aren't ways to prevent ice and snow, but you can certainly make it easier to clean/remove if you have protection on the paint, and you can use a fabric protectant on the inside arches if they are in a fabric/felt material, or a plastic coating if they are in plastic.
Great tips. I have Husky floor mats that go up the sides and the drivers mat completly covers the space under the gas pedal and completly covers the dead pedal, makes to hard for the salt and snow to reach the carpets.
I avoid the wax undercoatings as if there is any rust they just cover up the rust and it can still spread under the wax coating. I've been using Corrosion Free for my last two vehicles and rust has not been an issue.
My snow brush has a silicon head on it and use the techinque that you mentioned, leaving about a quarter of an inch.

I've noticed no one really checks their tire pressures, especially the customers at my dealership, also the way the electrical systems are on VWs if the battery is getting weak we get a lot of random system issues not just starting issues. These systems are very voltage sensitive and will set faults.
Yeah it's important to check tire pressures regularly.

Hi Pan. Tip 5 (checking tyre pressure) if the owner has changed the original tyres for something different best to check psi on the tyre) as I made the mistake and under inflated my tyres for a couple of weeks after buying the car. See you on the next one.
Interesting comment. The PSI indicator ON the tire is the Maximum pressure the tire can hold safely. This is not the recommended tire pressure for driving, big difference. If you follow your advice you will be driving on severely overinflated tires resulting in irregular wear and early tire failure. Unless where you live they also include the recommended PSI on the sidewall, not so in Canada.
Never rely on the PSI rating on the tire. That's the maximum pressure the tire can safely hold. What you should be doing is looking for the proper tire pressure on the tag on the door frame on the driver side, or in your user's manual to see what the manufacturer's recommended pressure is.
I switched to one of those foam snow brushes from Garant that Canadian Tire sells. They work great and are fairly gentle on the paint. I apply Silicone Lube to the weather stripping & spray lithium grease on the hinges at every oil change year round.

I live in CO and am doing my first complete paint correction and Avalon King ceramic coating. Is it adequate to wait 48 hrs to cure before taking it out on snow, slush, and the scoria they spread on the road?
It is CRUCIAL to let that specific coating dry and cure for 48 hours without exposure to the elements, rain, moisture, snow, etc.
And make sure you apply two coats, 1 hour between coats.

I had a question on wax removal would you suggest super clean diluted to remove older wax? So then later polish the car
No. To remove wax, a quick machine polish alone will be enough (after you wash the car). Polishing (mechanical abrasion) is what ensures 100% removal of any protection.
To wash the car, you can use a stripping shampoo that helps to start the breaking down process of older waxes, like this one: amzn.to/3VkzH8j

Ideally you always want to detail in temperatures above 10C especially to apply a ceramic coating. Ideally you would be working in 20C temperatures.

Great tips man! When you mentioned the wiper blades you reminded me of a great question for you. What the heck would you recommend for keeping the top part looking clean and dressed? Mine always look dull and flat and would prefer them to have that fresh new look! Hyper dressing or perhaps a vinyl/rubber conditioner? For reference I run BOSCH wipers on all my cars.
You mean the top part (exposed part) of the rubber blades? Yeah just use a plastics dressing. But I don't do that. I just keep them clean and change the blades every year or so.

Always enjoy the vids. Living in Virginia, our winters are mild but we get lots of road salts and calcium that attack’s the paint. I’ve typically used a paste wax for more paint protection because of that. With my new ceramic coating, I’m topping with TW Flex Wax. Do I still need the paste wax?
Don’t apply waxes on top of a ceramic coating. Flex Wax is all you’ll need. No need for a paste wax.
Pan I had a question and I thought I'd ask here in your latest video.
so I just received my first Gallon of "Iron remover" I wanted to get "Meguiar's Wheel & Paint Iron Decon" but I went with "Adam's Iron remover" because it was cheaper and faster to ship
Anyway my question:
After opening the gallon and refilling my bottle, now the whole room where I store my iron remover (Gallon container) STINKS.
I tried cleaning the gallon with APC and some Alcohol which helped a bit but it still reeks. Any tips on how to store iron remover?
now I have the gallon wrapped in a couple of plastic bags which helps but not completely eliminates the smell

I am in Toronto and I don’t drive daily. Would I be okay with Continental DWS06+ and xDrive?
I don't know that tire, but a quick research on the Continental website says it's an all-season tire. So it's not a dedicated winter tire. Don't you have a law in Ontario that states it's mandatory to have winter tires at a certain point? We have that law in Quebec.
But as you live in Canada, you guys get pretty crazy winters like we do in Quebec, so I would highly recommend that you get proper dedicated winter tires.

why does the windsheild after you clean it, show the shapes the wipers left...i cant clean it to make this disappear? .

Hi Paul. I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership.

@@PanTheOrganizerthank you! I’ve never been a fan of PPF either. I prefer gloss of paint and not having to deal with reapplying PPF as it doesn’t last forever. I recently took delivery of my 2022 Mustang Mach 1 and have several friends telling me PPF is a must in our state. 🤷♂️. Thank you for the link to your other video.

Hi Pan, I have powder coated running boards and was curious if I need to protect them even further? If so, what would you recommend using?
You can usually use the same coating as for exterior plastics, but check with the specific coating you purchase to see if it can be applied to powder coated surfaces.
Check the spare tire pressure too! :D
